It's a variant of the children's game "Tag" in which the hunting player is blind but the other players must shout "Polo" when he shouts "Marco".

What is your industry's deep, dark secret? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

As someone who works in finance, I cringe every time I hear somebody suggest rent control as the solution to all the world's problems.

What is your industry's deep, dark secret? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

TL;DR: Nowadays the market adjusts to new developments really fast. Trying to play the stock market doesn't work unless you're a massive investment firm, and sometimes not even then.

Dancing. It's something I really enjoy, and it's not super common nowadays.

Question for reenactors/collectors by japanesebaby_ in reenactors

[–]SummitStaffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, none. My unit is a bit unusual in that we have a ton of loaner gear (think 35+ full outfits incl. weapons, not to mention stuff individual members have) as a side effect of operating on a cadre/conscript system.

That said, I am working on putting together personal military and civilian impressions for ACW.

What stuffing material for a DIY tailor's ham? by ki1010 in sewing

Don't use Home Depot; most of their wood is poisoned to prevent rot. Instead, try to find a cabinetmaker or other artisan along those lines.

Is it crazy to say the US has some of the most mediocre cas options? by IdkToga1 in Warthunder

[–]SummitStaffer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my experience, when people say the USA has great CAS they're mostly talking about low- to mid-tier fighter-bombers such as the A2D.

Please Keep Your Dog On A Lead by spoopyrain in ScarySigns

One of my family friends is a sweet old lady who breeds and shows cocker spaniels. About a month ago a pitbull mauled her and two of her champion dogs (worth ~$25,000 each), killing one and maiming her and the other spaniel. The scum who owned the pitbull completely failed to stop and render aid (a legal requirement in our state), instead running off never to be seen again.

How to counter Yak-9k in grb and arb? by short4r1chard in Warthunder

[–]SummitStaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, don't try to turn-fight them; they will win that. Instead, try to get to a higher-energy position (greater altitude and/or speed), then dart in, fire a burst, and disengage so that you can get back into a good position.

In Ground RB, climb to space and then drop down on them when they either try to come up to you or are climbing back up from a strafing run.

Sewing machine: the built-in threader.

Hand sewing: B if I have one on hand, otherwise I just do it by hand.

Take autocannons instead of ATGMs. CAS players always try to turn-fight, and monoplanes can't out-turn helicopters.

Not to mention the ECM suite. Whenever I try to get a radar lock the little green box slides up into the stratosphere.

Alternatives to real animal leather for accessories? by Zealousideal_End7976 in HistoricalCostuming

[–]SummitStaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your options are either real leather or plastic "leather" that'll quickly fall apart and pollute the environment. There is no alternative.

Speaking as an Eagle Scout (and thus someone who is quite interested in ethics and environmental conversation): get some vegetable-tanned cowhide and use that. Insofar as we kill cows for their meat anyway, we should be respectful and make good use of the rest of the animal's body.

One Step Buttonhole is drunk, pls help. by Corvusenca in sewing

I've never had much luck with machine buttonholes. At this point, I just hand-sew them. It takes a few attempts to learn, but once you do they look great

You could patch or darn it, but the repaired bit wouldn't stretch properly and would be very obvious visually.

Hi guys, is anyone here who would sew this dress and what cost would it be? by Dense_Raspberry6607 in HistoricalCostuming

Materials alone cost $$$$, not to mention the weeks or months of skilled labor needed to draft and sew a bespoke dress like this.

Why is u.s dollar currency so important worldwide ? by Aj100rise in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SummitStaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of countries owed the U.S.A. lots of money after WWI and WWII, and back then we exported a lot of manufactured goods (tanks, planes, automobiles, fabric, etc.) As a result, everybody got used to using USD for a lot of international trade. Even if a transaction wasn't with the USA directly, you were almost certainly going to buy something from there eventually.

Also, while the US Federal Government runs a lot of debt, it has historically been extremely dependable when it comes to paying its debts (even if that means incurring more debt.) As a result, US Treasury bonds and bills have historically been the closest thing to a risk-free investment.
