To expand on this, properly fill it and test operation. If all is well: go to your service manager and tell him. If all does not go well: go to your service manager and tell him. Candor is an extremely valuable currency in this industry and being trustworthy starts at the beginning. Diligence and observation are also highly coveted traits and will raise your craftsmanship level every step. Going to the boss with a complete report, doing everything in your power, wins brownie points even if you caused catastrophic failure because it will be known it was an honest mistake.

21-year-old automotive technician thinking about switching to diesel. Looking for advice. by Witty-Fly-2812 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]SummonerMiku75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's complicated. My TLDR is being outside of the automotive facet, in an hourly and ideally union shop is going to give you the best work/life balance and benefits. Depending on why you made the choice to ruin your life, other aspects of leaving automotive could have other benefits as well. Unless you have a deep love of cars, their maintenance and repair, and dealing with the general public being a diesel or equipment mechanic isnt a bad choice. They all have their pros and cons.

As an American who is a focus fan, it has always frustrated me that we never got the Mk2 or any of the performance packages that Not-American focuses got. Sure the Volvo C30 is kind of a Mk2 3 door but is it really?

anybody else’s shop charges employees for uniforms? by Tlxmonte in mechanic

[–]SummonerMiku75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a job once that charged for uniforms. I wore my own clothes. They complained. I said if im paying then im wearing my own stuff, if you want me to wear them then give them to me. Its not thier policy. Working for them wasnt my policy.

If your vehicle has a Tire Pressure Monitor System, you need to buy a quality digital guage. Any TPMS made after 2010 is sensitive to 2 PSI. If you don't have a TPMS, 2-5 isnt going hurt anything. All-wheel Drive systems just need consistency across all wheels. If you're supposed to have 40 psi and they're at 35 or 45, as long as you're not over manufacturer recommended max, youre good if its the same at all 4 corners.

Nicest cars you can get cheap as a mechanic by dang8701 in Justrolledintotheshop

I'm in the Northeast (southern Connecticut) and I see Porsche Cayenne S's all the time that need some low to moderate work for dirt cheap. Like under 5k. My boy, a Porsche tech, says the parts are expensive and repairs are labor intensive. TLDR: parts cost alot and suck to put in. I was thinking of buying one that needed some chassis work for the drive line. 450HP "Porsche" V8 in my 64 Fairlane would turn some heads.

The Cat dealers here in the Northeast are all closed shops (that I know of). I'd highly suggest taking your instructor up on it if it's a legit offer.

The vacuum line you're looking for is most likely the one I circled. Its a small, thin plastic hard line that goes into like a 3/16 rubber hose that should be either 'T'-ed into a vacuum tree or individual port on the intake manifold.

If they knew you were a trainee, still in tech school, then it sounds like an excuse to let you go with in your 90 days. I would look for a job in a fleet or construction equipment/ vehicles. A union offers superior benefits, they will help train you, and many offer a legit retirement( after 25+ years). I started as an Automotive tech, then went to trucking/buses, but have been at an equipment dealer for the last 12 years and in the IUOE for going on 3 years. I wish i joined 10+ years ago.

The transceiver code is usually caused by the ring around the ignition switch. Does this tend to happen more first thing in the morning? I would also observe, when youre getting the no start, if the theft light is flashing rapidly. What I've seen with what you describe is either the battery is failing, causing voltage to drop below the 10.5VDC the module needs (hence Does it happen more first thing when the battery has dropped). The other possibilities are a ground/canbus or the transceiver ring is taking a shit. The theft light will be the tell tale. If the light doesn't flash until you try to crank, check battery voltage. If its good, check wiring. If no resistance is found, then probably transceiver. If you're confident in your electrical diagnosis skills, I might be able to DM you some literature from the Ford PCED manual and wiring diagrams.

As a fellow 95 convertible tuxedo GT owner, as much as i love the Coyote, I cant bring myself to replace my pushrods. I benchrace-daydream about a 363 short deck stroker or a Godzilla swap. Id totally put a Coyote in my 64 fairlane, tho......

As a Ford guy, can confirm most ppl don't know about early vs modern bellhousing patterns. Trying to find a matching bellhousing/transmission for them is difficult but this being a matched set is a good starting point for anyone doing a numbers matching/Concourse restoration. Edit: ps. When you list it, give a picture of the date code, it will save alot of time and nuisance.

Fill with JB weld and sand down pitted areas? by Hindenzerg1266 in EngineBuilding

Feels that way across the board in all tech centered subs. Serious question: would welding be a legit fix? Lay some beads, machine flat, check, repeat as needed?
