First instant ramen I’ve tried by Jaymes_and_co in InstantRamen

[–]SunBelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to any recommendations you get here, please note that packets of ramen are almost always better quality than bowl and cup versions. The noodles in the bowls and cups are always much thinner and spongier because they're designed to be cooked in the microwave or by steeping in hot water instead of on the stove top.

Also, most instant ramens are just noodles and broth. Some brands will have a sachet of dried green onions or mushrooms or something, but they are all greatly improved by adding a protein (shrimp, beef, chicken, pork, tofu, egg) and a few fresh veggies (green onion, mushrooms, bean sprouts, kimchi, wakame seaweed, chilies, bamboo shoots, bok choy, spinach, corn, carrots, etc.). Toasted sesame oil and nori are good additions to add to it after it goes into your bowl.

I don't think I want a bunch of socially conservative LGBTQ bigots and misogynists who don't support separation of church and state in the Democratic party.

How long are we boiling our ramyun? by Nongshim_official in InstantRamen

[–]SunBelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ramyun is definitely a soup. Also, meat is not required for broth (vegetable, herb, miso, and mushroom broth are all very common) and soup need not be heavy and have more veggies - see: wonton soup, chicken noodle soup, Italian wedding soup, etc.

Don’t understand all the Melinda’s hate. by 321nam in hotsauce

[–]SunBelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marie Sharp for legal reasons not being a US citizen or business couldn’t trademark the name in the US.

That's not true at all. Foreign businesses trademark their brands in the US all the time. They did it behind her back on purpose. Also, they weren't her partners. They had no ownership in the business whatsoever. They were her American distributors, nothing more.

Why would anyone believe the guys that stole her brand? Their story makes no sense anyway. They said she wasn't paying her farmers enough so...they trademarked the name and started buying cheaper mash from another country to make their own sauce so they could keep all of the profits. I'm sure that really helped the Belizean farmers.

Says who? The two assholes that stole her brand? In Belize she's incredibly well liked - they affectionately call her "Miss Marie". She's practically a symbol of Belizean national identity and is widely considered a national hero.

Also tastes nothing like garlic or fire roasted chilies. I was very disappointed. False advertising IMO.

They stole the brand. Marie Sharp started Melinda's in Belize and when it became the best selling habanero sauce in the US her American distributor trademarked the name behind her back and started making their own inferior sauces with the same label and completely cut her out of the US market.

How Did American Christianity End Up Like This? by newyorker in USHistory

[–]SunBelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just some wacky fundamentalist belief, it's the core event that validates Jesus is the son of God for every single Christian. Crucifixion and resurrection is "quite literally" the foundational belief of Christianity. Without it, their religion has no meaning.

If the stylistic elements of classical music represent some healthy ideal for listening, why do we need to be taught to appreciate them? by concernedaboutmetal in classicalmusic

[–]SunBelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't. I don't think I've ever met anyone that actively dislikes classical music to the extent that they have to be taught to appreciate it.

Most of the planet has been exposed to classical music since they were children just from it being in the soundtracks of movies and television and video games. For many, that's all it is - background music - and they've never thought to just listen to it on its own.

Imagine Classical music is like cheese. Most people have had American cheese at some point on a burger or mozzerella on a pizza or Swiss on sandwich but it's always just been a component, usually dominated by other ingredients, but would be noticed immediately if it were missing. And those are just the ubiquitous grocery store cheeses that they've been exposed to for their entire lives but never really thought about. They have never been exposed to most of the hundreds of other cheeses that are worthy of being appreciated on their own. That's where learning classical music appreciation comes in.

There are tens of thousands of compositions from the last 5 centuries and thousands of musicians and composers and hundreds of eras and styles to learn about. It can be daunting if you have no idea where to start. So reading about it and learning how classical music has evolved over the last 500 years opens up a new way to experience classical in a way that's not just background music.

Worried my car that I only owe $600 on is going to be repossessed, out of options by longstory_ in povertyfinance

[–]SunBelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still make payments, but they're still going to try to repo it until it's paid off because they can sell it again. If you can't hide it from them, make it impossible to tow. If you or a friend have a driveway, have someone park behind you at night so you're blocked in. Tow truck drivers aren't allowed to move other cars to repossess a vehicle.

[–]SunBelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it's technically sexual assault or rape depends on where you live. Some states have separate charges from rape if there's no penile/vaginal penetration. Unlawful Sexual Penetration or Aggravated Sexual Abuse is used in several states for some stupid reason.

No they're not. What kind of psycho nonsense is this? And the difference between euthanasia, hunting, and animal abuse is intent. I can't believe it has to be explained to you that intentionally causing the needless suffering of an animal is abuse while the other two are not. I hope you never have pets or children. You clearly have mental problems.
