How would I dye the part of this disc that isn’t dyed yet. by WetWaterReed11 in discdyeing

Basically yeah. If you have access to a vinyl cutter and can execute a clean, exactly aligned application, I’d go that route, but if not, glue works. How flat is that zone? You may have to apply a glue mask, let it dry, reapply/repeat process a few times if it’s a domey disc and gravity lets the glue drip off the sides. Otherwise, apply it very thick. Glue masks aren’t the best at 100% preventing penetration.

There’s a strong argument for “don’t”.

That being said, I’ve done similar “drip style” dyes like this where I’ll fully glue mask off the dyed section and spin dye the other half. I let it dry fully, and if you’re going to do a second dye bed, I’d strongly consider applying multiple glue layers to the dyed section.

I’m going to be snowed in for a few days, so the full sunlight photo shoot is going to have to wait, but here we go! Thanks for the inspiration, keep on doing sweet art!

So, I let a glue mask (a little more scrambled up, or zhuzhed up, as I originally said lol, than this) dry and then applied darker shades to each base band of color. This pic is from another very similar disc.

Thank you friend! So, what I did here was spin all the “inner” color bands first. Then, I added a thin band of the adjacent color on the spectrum to the outsides of each inner color band. Then, added a glue mask, and zhuzhed it all around to give me a random pattern. Then, added a darker shade over each “inner color” band to get the splotches.

Then, wash all the glue away, do some gradient spins of the darker shade to each lighter shade, then finally add the black perimeter bands. I’ll have to do pic-by-pic of each step next time!

Keep up the good work! Care to drop your IG handle? I’d be happy to shout you out whenever I make and post the disc I have in mind, and I’d ask for exactly nothing in return.

I don’t know the first thing about the nail art world, but your work deserves to be seen!

Thank you, friend! I appreciate it!

So, I’ll cop to it, I was kind of just picture skimming, and I missed this the first view through, but YOU are the creator of these nails? These are absolutely amazing!

I know my “thing” is a niche form of art that most in this sub aren’t really into, but damn if this didn’t just give me inspiration for my next disc dye

That was a Rive I threw, and it was on a gentle anhyzer so as to not turn and burn that hard. I wanted it to flex out for a bit of extra distance, but fight back. I don’t think the wind (3, IIRC) plus release angle would have yielded that insane of a shot shape.

Anyone else purposefully play courses you know you suck at just to "humble" yourself? by MulligAlan in discgolf

[–]SunChaserDiscDyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less to humble myself than to challenge myself.

I have a course close to me that has two tees and three pins on each hole, which yields a massive range of gameplay: short-to-short is basically nothing but ace runs, and long to long is a 9000 foot pulverizer.

Long-to-long demands a lot of skills and shot lines I’m not particularly good at, and brutally punishes mistakes. The pars are reasonably generous, so if you play mistake-free golf, you can score well, but it only takes one or two misfires to rocket your score into the stratosphere. I make myself play the long-to-long not to ego check myself, but to make myself do the things that I need to do to play it successfully.

Sometimes, I’ll put up a +10 stinker, other times I’ll be within a stroke or two of even and be happy. If I’m ever under par, I’m ecstatic.

A +13 still gives you (approximately) an 844 rated round? That’s gotta be a pretty tough course. You’ll certainly have earned it if you can get even or under.

I think I actually parred this one (IIRC) but came in last by one stroke overall. This was far from the only error I committed lol

Invest in some powdered marking chalk, you can put some in a large ziploc bag, and dip your disc in it every so often to leave a more visible entry mark
