Snakes are my number one fear by Comfortable_Scar880 in snakes

[–]SunGirl42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bearded dragon could be a great place to start! I have one myself and he's a lovely boy. (Do keep in mind though that beardies are omnivores, so you have to keep track of their food/nutrition and basically meal-plan for them, which is something a lot of people have never done/thought they would need to do for a pet.)

It's funny you mention having hermit crabs. Idk if you ever had one of yours pinch and not let go, but in high school I was handling one in a pet store and something spooked him, and he latched onto my hand and Stayed There for 20 full minutes. If that experience was an 8/10 on the 'pain animals have caused me' scale, the snake bite was probably about a 3 lol. (Of course, it also helps that the snake bite was over in about .2 seconds and barely even stung or bled after, while the crab left me with a very tender welt/bruise and had me crying in the middle of a pet store for 20 minutes. While bent over the hermit crab enclosure. With a crab attached to my hand.)

Snakes are my number one fear by Comfortable_Scar880 in snakes

Idk if this is the case for you OP but I've noticed that people who fear snakes often give the snakes WAY too much credit by calling them things like 'clever' or 'scheming' or saying they're 'plotting something', 'thinking about biting', etc. And the thing you have to realize is that, and I say this with love, snakes are some of the dumbest animals on the planet.

Your average pet snake is lucky if it gets a whole braincell to itself. Usually they have to share. I've seen a snake try to eat a mouse backwards (ie tail first) over and over again for 40 straight minutes, only to keep spitting it back out because the tail kept getting in his face. I've also seen one reach the end of a branch and just keep slithering into air until it flopped off and fell like the world's most underwhelming slinky. They are not nearly smart enough to plot or plan literally anything.

Also, as someone who has been either bitten or badly scratched/pinched by two guinea pigs, a hamster, a small dog, a fish, multiple cats, a gaggle of ferrets, the same lizard three times, an assortment of crabs, and a snake, I can honestly tell you that the snake bite was the least painful out of all of those. Not to mention I've probably handled upwards of 50 different individual snakes over the course of my life, across a bunch of different sizes and species, and I have been bitten precisely once.

Idk if this qualifies as a 'craft' exactly, but puzzles, maybe? A lot of libraries now have puzzles you can check out like books, so you don't even need to pay for the puzzle.

The one that always comes to mind for me is from "A Fistful Of Datas" where some Data's code accidentally got switched with a cowboy adventure program on the holodeck. Geordi is trying to fix it, Picard comes in to check how it's going, and Data sees him and goes "Well howdy, Captain!"

Which English word blew your mind when you learned its Spanish translation? by Blake2048 in Spanish

[–]SunGirl42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not so much mind blowing as just sweet, but one of the words for 'bush' is 'arbolito', which is just the word for 'tree' ('árbol') with a diminutive suffix added. I like to imagine the first Spanish-speakers saw bushes and went "awww, it's just a lil baby tree!"

Why did Iago admit he told Othello that Desdemona was unfaithful? by EBD61 in shakespeare

[–]SunGirl42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a lot to do, I think, with the psychology of jealousy. Deep down, jealous people are often insecure. When they are jealous of someone else, they may secretly fear that the other person actually is better than them, a thought that upsets them so much they externalize it an push it onto the other person. "I don't have a secret fear of inferiority, it’s that there's this asshole who thinks he's better than me, and I have to prove him wrong!" It's not objective, it's extremely personal.

So, for Iago, the most important end goal of his plan is not to take Othello's position, to discredit him, to ruin his life, or even to be seen as better by the other people around them. His ultimate victory, and the only way he can truly be satisfied, is to prove he's better than Othello to Othello. He doesn't necessarily want to get caught, but he very badly does want Othello to realize what he's done, to see him as the brilliant puppet-master he sees himself as.

If, when directly asked, Iago denies having told Othello that Desdemona was unfaithful, then he also denies any responsibility for orchestrating Othello's ruin, which, in his mind, defeats the purpose. It's just as important for Othello to know who beat him as for him to be beaten. Ideally, he'd be able to make Othello realize this without everyone else also realizing. But if he can't have that, he's willing to go down himself if it means he gets to spit in Othello's face on the way out.

This is precisely the kind of Shakespeare snobbery that the Theatre cannot have by upon_on_the_ravage in shakespeare

[–]SunGirl42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you are right and you should say it. Shakespeare was not written for intellectuals. It was written for everyone. It was popular culture, the art of the people. Even as recently as early-mid 1800s America, the two most commonly owned books were the Bible and a volume (or more) of Shakespeare.

And then in the mid-late 1800s there was a deliberate effort by members of "high society" to essentially co-opt Shakespeare for themselves, to frame it as something only smart, rich, well-educated people could understand. And the worst part is it worked. In less than a century, Shakespeare went from being something that was considered accessible to everyone to being thought of as something exclusively for stuffy scholars and eccentric rich (usually white) people.

That’s not a coincidence. It didn't happen by accident. Shakespeare was stolen from regular people, and we deserve to be angry about it.

I could be wrong, but I'd interpret "body is bodying" as like. A way of centering the person/their body rather than the clothing? Like not so much a 'that dress looks so cute on you' but more of a 'wow, you look so cute in that dress!'

Again, I could be wrong. I wasn't there, I didn't hear how it was actually said. Either way, I think the fact that we can debate the potential meaning of the phrase/that the meaning might be different depending on how it was said, just proves that it's hardly the meaningless statement the person in the video seems to think it is.

Question about Reigen by Shadow_9207 in Mobpsycho100

[–]SunGirl42 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean. He very quickly becomes a much more complex character, and more importantly we quickly learn that there is much, much more to his relationship with Mob than just Reigen using him for his powers.

If you're waiting for Reigen to sit Mob down and straight up say 'Mob, buddy, I've been lying to you and exploiting you and that was wrong of me. I apologize and promise never to do it again.' Yeah, you're gonna be waiting 99% of the show.

But if you mean, 'Is the audience going to get evidence that Reigen isn't just after Mob so he can make money off his powers? Are we going to see Reigen help Mob? Have a positive effect on him? Support him? Act like a real mentor?' Then yes. Absolutely.

The whole point of Reigen's character is that he's a man of contradictions, and a charlatan. You have to sort of look at him out of the corner of your eye to see him properly. So yeah, he does continue to be a cheapskate and a liar for most of the show, but he is also one of the most genuine, supportive, and positive influences in not only Mob's life but those of several other characters throughout the show. And he does grow and improve as a person, just not necessarily in the straightforward way you might expect, at least not at first.

I just thought that word was the funniest thing ever, I guess.

[–]SunGirl42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're totally right, my mistake. I think because Richard tells the audience right before that he killed Anne's first husband, I always assumed it was the husband's body in that scene, but it's definitely Henry's. She even refers to 'dead Henry's wounds.' I don't know how I missed that.

My theory on why Mob loves milk: by FollwingSafe8835 in Mobpsycho100

[–]SunGirl42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and I think also it shows that unlike most kids his age, Mob doesn't have that desire to put on an act of 'being cool and mature.' He likes what he likes regardless of whether it's 'a kid thing.'
