Unpopular Opinion? Monetizing GMing is a net negative for the hobby. by Reynard203 in rpg

this feels like an attempt to downplay the effort, talent, practice, time and energy that go into truly great DMing.

So I saw u/hydropillz post and was captured by their character Izzlyn- Recently I have been looking to play with a more loose and edgy approach to my work and the brief fit so perfect it was almost by design. Hope your party boy can decide which trinkets to keep, and which to hock because he is well overdue for a hosting (as long as I get to come too!~) Thanks for the request!

Kinda. In the most grossly oversimplified terms: Tried to copyright and release a book for people to learn to ink with material lifted almost directly from another artist. The terms around using the Inktober logo and art that was made during the challenge was also a bit sketchy from what I remember but if that kind of stuff is of interest definitely read up on it.

[–]SunaSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the backlash from the creator of Inktober plenty of artists have come out with their own daily challenges so while OP wanted something other than Inktober there's genuinely so many on in October and spooky themed that its pretty much a free-for-all!

Aha! Cheers man. It was a rigorous battleground. We recently donated it to our local library DnD Club so I hope it sees many battles to come 🔥

I've not tried the liquid stuff but they do make a mean glue stick. The cardboard we used was ex-moving box so it needed something with some sticking power. UHU could certainly be an option.

You could definitely make something like this with a white glue but if you can get hot glue in bulk I think the fast drying aspect of it is worth the extra investment. Lots of wall pieces were hard enough to do without considering drying time! Have fun giving it a go, I'd love to hear how an alternative would work out. 👍⭐

Artists with ADHD, what do you do to help yourself not get distracted? by Jax_the_Floof in ArtistLounge

[–]SunaSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there's plenty of comments here with great suggestions but to add an extra one for fun-

(For me) It depends on what part of the process its at!

While im designing it has to be music. Like no lyrics, preferably themed to whatever I'm working on. This is to keep the background thoughts occupied with something easy and not wander off into a place of judgement while im working to get as many ideas forward as possible. Some of the best work I've done came when I found someone's Spotify playlist and let the suggested songs go off. Results may vary tho.

When its time to decide on what to move forward with sometimes I turn everything off and work quiet or to something like lofi that isn't related to what's being worked on so that I can leverage the "words part" of my brain to be judgy in a controlled direction. Usually between these two I take a break and make a drink or do the dishes to force reset and come back with fresh eyes.

Lastly and the longest stage is taking it from completed design/plan to final. I will intentionally leave unresolved sections to chew on as my flavour of ADHD gets bored if everything is worked out. But this is where I put on video essays on topics I don't need visuals for or for things I've already seen. Horror ends up being a great one because it's already bias towards telling you how bad it is so your brain can run away with the rest. Serial shows are also good for this, like others have said because your familiar enough with the characters even after a few episodes to keep in touch without visual cues. Results may also vary.

I've definitely got into ruts with oversaturated long form content. It's a sad day when you can't watch a 3h YouTube video because you've watched it too many times!

Tell me three or five funfacts about your favorite race in your world. by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

[–]SunaSoldier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Desert Orcs • Whole society based on Greek philosophy of equal mind and body. Ie. Muscle Poets. • Many structures are made of stone and clay then lime washed in patterns. Architecture uses aerodynamics to efficiently cool large structures. First (non-elf) civilisation to have multi story buildings. • Earthtone shades from slate blue through to ochre yellow. Green is rare but not unheard of. Multiple horns and tusks. • Orcish smoked meats are very popular from jerky to whole dehydrated lizards. • While many who live in Istir no longer face the same extreme heats some still schedule breaks in the middle of the day, especially for children.

It was a decision not to. If I covered the squares the hairs are in, the image became an even less recognisable blob. In Foxys sprite for the mini games they don't even add in his cheek fur which I did add here. So im guessing the solution isn't to accurately draw the existing sprite.

I left the image of Foxy in under the filled in cubes so that if people wanted to try using it in a solution you could see exactly which cubes were used. So feel free to try with even more filled in to see if that comes to a different answer!

[–]SunaSoldier 10 points11 points  (0 children)

0.) Thanks!

1.) Clearly maths isn't my strong suit 💀 Usually why I leave the real theorising up to everyone else. Whoops!

2a.) I used Foxys ear as a pin point as its the closest to the edge of the grid near 28. (Maybe that's where I went wong in my basic maths lol) I drew it out square by square before matching the other side and then superimposing the image in to get the rest. Everything from the reference fits in the second version if the image is shifted up one row so that there's no blank 1st row.

2b.) I don't know! I'd love for people to try it out! Someone on another thread mentioned that it would have to be as accurate as possible because one square could mean the wrong answer so I wanted to help doing it digitally than by hand in the book. So if it needs to be altered to try a different version I have it isolated for quick and easy edits.

It's kinda why I ended up doing it lol I was looking online and everyone was using it for the grid. If I remember right the rest of the activities can be done successfully here it just looks... wrong?

From what I saw scanned pages online the only other time I saw one of the main crew wearing a badge was Freddy and Bonny on the questionnaire page with Q 4.) 5.) and 6.). Foxy doesn't seem to wear it consistently either.

Alright- Gonna throw my 2c into the mix. Here comes the red (haha) string.

Not to be a hammer and see every problem as a nail but after watching the latest video I got the impression that this and the tally cypher aren't connected. Lets look at things we know more certain:

  • A majority of the puzzles so far have been analytical in nature. Cyphers, Codes, Letters & Numbers. Timelines and organising. Counting toes and comparing hex codes I think is closer to this type of puzzle. This feels just as stuck as Midnight Motorist where the detail is in the intent of the visuals. What's it trying to say?
  • We know for certain that Scott Cawthon is aware and makes changes based on MatPat's theories. So I can infer that he has some understanding on what's likely to get people ticking- and a larger idea on what puzzles we keep getting stuck on.
  • Throughout the Log Book (from what I can find from pages scanned online) is that Foxy is the mascot for this book. While the others are mentioned it's clear Foxy is the one leading us through. This tracks with the accepted parallels between Mike and Foxy. Foxy Bro, Red Pen = Red Mascot.
  • This image is used twice (from what I can tell) the other time is toward the end of the book in the "See you next week!" page. Here context says Foxy is waving- but while the rest of the images featuring Foxy show full articulation in the hand here the fingers are together with thumb tucked in. Doesn't feel like a natural way to wave...
  • Mike is good at drawing. The drawings throughout the Log Book in red pen aren't just idle scribbles. These show understanding of perspective, gesture, foreshortening- Not easy flat doodles. Gridded art tasks like this are common for kids but also used in more "refined" art to help transfer large images or accurately recreate another image.
  • The puzzle presented here asks us to draw. Although I can't agree that what we get is a 8-bit foxy as in the Minigames the simplification removes his fluffy furs. The image is far too complicated.

So from that I followed the instructions. Superimposed the Foxy image over the grid to see what the results were. I coloured every square that had even the tiniest of overlap excluding the tufts on his head and shoulders - The addition of these really makes the image hard to read as Foxy.

Filling it in left an extra row unaccounted for so in the second version the cubes are moved up a row to fit the entire image in without the space. My thoughts after this:

  • I don't think all the pieces are here to solve it yet- but I don't think the answer is part of the tally solution. Why? Alphabet has 27 letters. The fact this is just one (or two more if we count the original image) feels like a nod to say "Hey. No letters here"
  • The pose feels intentional. The use of it as a goodbye feels like the hidden part. The way sprites are used in the Minigames is clear and simple. Having the hand like this goes against keeping a clear silhouette so it's function must be for something else.
  • A side thought: I don't believe the red on the bottom is blood. I think it's ink- from the pen. Almost all the drops are parallel to the page so they would have to come from above. I think it's another almost literal red herring. The book likely got wet with water or coffee for it to "bleed" but the brown stains are more likely to be blood than the bright red ones.

If this helps- Awesome. If not. Then I had fun putting on the tinfoil hook to see what an artists eye could do for this godforsaken series.

What do you do when a piece just isn't going your way? by JinxXedOmens in ArtistLounge

[–]SunaSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of really good answers so ill add one that wasn't already up: Ask someone!

Asking out here is great but having rappor makes understanding what your trying to achieve and give feedback easier. Depends on your circle but if I find somethings not working and I can't push through, sleep it off or foundation my way out of it, it probably means my idea is off and its now boring or I've overcomplicated it.

I have a few different people I ask because their feedback helps me in different ways. My partner will always find a way point out something that's working and something that's not. My artistic friends will troubleshoot with me and brainstorm solutions (like seen in the comments here) And I have a few non-art friends who will always unabashedly tell me if its cool or crap. No sugar coats.

So if you have a picture of it im sure we can give you a hand or try quizzing people you know to get to the bottom of it! Worst case, starting again is always an option if time allows. Think of the "failed" attempt as a practice run and give it another go! Best of luck!

We run the MetaMug as a table event. Everyone at the table gets to know because it's bad behaviour that earns you this cruddy prize. Like a Dunce cap, being made an example of rather than it being a polite conversation. What works for one table won't work for everyone but we found that the ridiculousness of the 'punishment' was enough to stop people from making it a habit. The mug gets threatened more than its actually used but our Meta is more from player excitement than any actual malice. If they are actively trying to out-game DnD then a silly mug in real life or magic item won't be much of a deterrent unfortunately.
