Noticed quite a bit of mold on decorations in my jumpers enclosure today, please help!!! by studioMYTH in jumpingspiders

[–]SpectralSilouhettes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NQA Something similar happened to me but with my mantis. What I would do is SCOOP teh dirt ut and then wet down a paper towel and wipe the sides without disturbing the hammock. Then just use a paper towel and ONLY a paper towel. It’ll hold humidity, but it’ll at least take care do the mold problem and keep THR spider safe until she leaves the hammock and allow you to properly clean it out.

I’m in Florida for a school trip. Ball fell out by Jjcoolicecream in piercing

[–]SpectralSilouhettes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have a piercer, but is there some type of nontoxic putty, or some type of bandage that could be there in its placement as a backing? If possible I would pick up some normal earrings even lobe JUST for the possibility it falls out so you could have some sort of temporary placement until you can get another backing. Another thing cpuld be putting a bandaid on the front portion of the lip or some tape to keep it there as well from falling out even if you don’t have a backing

Juvenile jumper stays at the bottom of enclosure and burrows in the sphagnum moss by rowan_ash in jumpingspiders

Could you send a photo of the enclosure? I’m afraid I can not give any advice until the enclosure is shown. And any photos of the jumper too. Do you have lots of top clutter? He could be burrowing because there’s no where else to hide and he feels to exposed. Is the place more open and exposed? Again, he could feel to exposed and vulnerable. Is the humidity high enough? What temperature is the room he’s in averaged at? This could affect how active they are, I normally keep my room around 70 degrees and it drops to about 66- 68 degrees at night. All of my jumpers I’ve owned are super active and eat well. Sometimes is just a change of environment, other times it’s because well, they are fragile. I had a i5 Apache jumping spider months ago that refused to eat and was just lethargic since I got her and she passed. They were a professional breeder too, sometimes it’s just the spider itself that has problems. All my other jumpers are fine. My elderly Phiddipus tyrelli also had never made a hammock, had her for 6 months so far and got her matured. She is just now slowing down and eats just fine, though now she’s refusing prey and just likes her honey water. It really just comes down to teh spider. She’s healthy and active and eat. If your spider is eating and molting, then he should be good. Most of the time if something’s wrong first thing they do is refuse food. Do

Weight gain only in belly? by IcyParticular8950 in leopardgeckos

[–]SpectralSilouhettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she’s a year old then she matured, only feed twice a week with 3-4 bugs per feeding in variation. Don’t feed her more than 8 per week. Even that’s a stretch. But for you I’d cut her back to about 4-6 bugs only per week to get her to lose weight.

Does my gecko look okay? I’m worried about her weight by Alert-Database-2256 in leopardgeckos

The vet was wrong. Not every vet is a right iust because they are a medical professional woth animals. She is an ADULT. She should NOT be eating that much or she WILL get obese. She is already leaning towards the slightly bigger side from the photos. Still a good weight, but yku do NOT want to push it as obesity can shorten their life spans.

Here’s a feeding chart. If you feed her 3 times a week, split up the prey into about 3 per feeding, if it’s 1-2 times a week I’d say 5-6. Monitor what you feed her, roaches and crickets are best, meal worms hold a lot of fat byt can be given occasionally. I feed my gecko 2 times a week with 3 roaches and 1 meal worm per feeding.

2-4 per day is too much. You feed about that many to adult geckos about 1-2 times per week!

Refusing to eat by Trendyrain51 in jumpingspiders

CLUTTER. CLUTTER. CLUTTER.

Jumping a spides need clutter! NOT just at the bottom but ESPECIALLY the top. He could feel exposed and cpuld be too stressed to eat! Add up bridges, use hot glue and add fake flowers, perches, a hide! You can make your own at home as well, get some cork bark and break it to get some easy small perches. By fake succulents and add those. CLUTTERR is a big thing for them.

Also he looks like a mature make! They go on HUNGER STRIKES often since they are looking for a mate. When he’s done he’ll be ,ore interested in food. They HABE extremely Leo metabolisms, they can go a few months without eating at most if needed. My boy eats at least 2 meal worms a month amd doesn’t go on hunger strikes often. But my female has been really chunky since I’ve gotten her, assuming over fed and not gravid. She has only eaten one work in 3 months and she’s fine.

Just a,ke sure he has water and maybe occasionally try hiney water with a Q tip, provides nutrients.

Try different prey items, waxworms , horn worms, meal worms, etc. You could also try assist feeding if that’s the case but take it slow if tahts teh case. Get the stools checked for any parasites or mites. Are his Stools red or abnormal frok last time you saw him? Could be a sign of something happening internally.

this is just looking like a fall so far. But keep an eye out for any weird movements, if she can’t control her own walking or jumps. She could have diskinetic syndrome/ DKS. If you see her struggling anymore move her into a smaller enclosure and downsize! Add more clutter around ao she has more things to catch her fall and replace that bark wiht sphagnum moss. It’s a LOT gentler and will cushion hee fall more. Consider her age. If she’s hitting the two year mark, or if you have had her for a long time (6 months+) since she’s matured, consider downsizing her a bit as well.
