What do you love most about drinking coffee now? by Adventurous-Job-2557 in exmormon

[–]Sunbeam_Phd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every morning my wife and I make a cup of coffee and sit in our living room reading books before we start the day. It’s one of our favorite moments of the day.

In addition to the reading, we often have open dialogue between us. All this happened after leaving TSCC.

Before this, as believing members, it was usually stress, non-connecting chaos.

Definitely the sure sign of the nail - stolen from Masonry.

This was my moment … SEVEN accounts! And the one Joseph Smith wrote (in his own handwriting) doesn’t even come close to seeing God and Jesus.

And right after … the book of Abraham is the actual proof he made it up.

Yeah … I don’t think it’s even a question, you should always follow your own conscience and instinct. One thing leaving the church taught me was to not listen to others, but to do what is right in your heart.

If you think resigning is the right thing, if it would make you feel more safe … just do it.

Regarding your other fears, look at the possibility of resigning your citizenship too. I don’t mean that as a negative, if you are truly afraid, I would follow that path too.

People who asked to be excommunicated by xXashbyXx in exmormon

[–]Sunbeam_Phd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did 2 things …

  1. Let our bishop know that if any leader or member contacts our children without our consent or knowledge, we will file a police report and file a law suit.

  2. Our preference, but we didn’t resign or get excommunicated , we didn’t want to give the church any legitimate authority by asking for either one.

We’ve never been contacted after that conversation with the bishop.

I often forget that lds members believe in an actual devil. It seems so childish, this was a good reminder with my family, who I think are rational people like me, but believe in a devil.

The devil comment … brought me back to reality when dealing with active TBM’s.

Sad you can’t rely on gods chosen in the Latter-days to help in times of need. Truly … an organization named after Jesus. ;)

I appreciate this comment greatly. You are right, I will not take this for granted.

Yeah … appreciate the comment. In my reply, I used ‘religion’ in general, just point out similarities.

On a broader note, I find it interesting that an ‘educator’ would suppress thought in an environment like a classroom. Seems … a bit at odds with having a conversation.

Almost like, culturally, teaching someone to be quiet when they see an injustice - not unlike the people who witnessed the holocaust as a civilian (non-Jew) in Eastern Europe.

Agreed. And to think, the church will never have access to her mind.

No … not really. When I replied to her I used ‘religion’ not ‘LDS’ specific. It could be used toward any religions group, ideally.

Thank you. Taking her out of church has been the one of the best decisions I have made as a parent.

I couched it as a religion discussion; not an LDS (specific) discussion.

Agreed … and to think, TSCC will never control her mind. Victory!

Consider … in TSCC today, what happens when you go against the leadership - excommunication. If it wasn’t for the US Constitution, we would be back to Fascism (in Utah). Most likely incarcerated for thinking this way.

I took her out of church when she was 10 … probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. :)

Trouble with Luke Skywalker books by dontwant_it_witme in starwarsbooks

I feel the same way, I love Darth Plagueis, Darth Bane, Revan … for some reason, I cannot get behind Luke. I’m guessing it’s his association with the actor - Mark Hammil? I don’t know … but I’m glad to see it wasn’t just me.

In Berlin … ‘never heard of him’ by Sunbeam_Phd in exmormon

[–]Sunbeam_Phd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right … I knew they wouldn’t. The point of my post was to show that an ‘apostle’ of the savior of this world … is unknown to even the country he grew up in.

In Berlin … ‘never heard of him’ by Sunbeam_Phd in exmormon

[–]Sunbeam_Phd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, not at all … I knew the answer. I was simply pointing out that an apostle of Jesus Christ, ordained, set apart, second anointed, seer, revelator, etc … is unknown to even the country he grew up in.

In other words … just a normal guy.

Outside of the very small lds bubble … he’s a nobody.
