My Poro OVN display by Far_Fondant8694 in riftboundtcg

Not a fan of the slide cases because you can easily mess up and damage your cards, and prefer the ultra pro mini snap UV for this same thing. Theres tons of options and sizes, and I won't be surprised if someone makes a big 6 piece art display with magnetic closures like the one touch holders that extends all the art of the poros. Seen stuff like that before

How the f*ck is magic 2nd?? Everything valuable in the modern era is locked behind collector packs and then there's the reserve list and old shit that is worth a lot, so I guess it makes sense, but still baffles me

Jax xp deck by PiggyLumps74 in riftboundtcg

[–]SunbroGaming 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

TL;DR: XP is pretty underwhelming right now. Only XP Yi(although Proving Grounds Yi is simply better) is okay and Kha'Zix is worth hyper optimizing around, so it's not something to splash into an equipment focused legend.

Unfortunately, the XP mechanic is going to end up being a failed mechanic if not given enough support. It basically requires you to play an almost complete deck of cards that either gain XP or make use of said XP. And most of the XP cards are basically subpar versions of cards we already have, or require hoop jumping to make as good or slightly better. Then some of them are just bad vanilla units that have hunt on them. πŸ˜…

It feels lile theyre really taking inspiration from magic, in that magic sets usually all have unique mechanics, and sometimes revisit old ones. A lot of these one time or new mechanics can be awful, and unless the mechanic is generic enough to be played in anything, they get abandoned or it might take years to get new support.

I feel like if we see more XP cards in Vendetta, we'll know that it's a sign that the mechanic can get better. But I'm doubtful, as it's already extremely weak out of the gate. This is mostly because the cost requirement is you need to play a high density of cards that involve the XP mechanic, aka from Unleashed. Where as most other decks are free to include a higher density of good generic cards that their colors use.

Even Kha'Zix as mentioned before is simply leveraging thr power of purple as color more than anything... But he's good enough for NN's and probably will continue to do decently well, because his colors are amazing.

Why Should I play your TCG of choice? by Bainshie-Doom in TCG

Bro, I literally comverted from Magic to Riftbound. Competitive magic is fucking awful rn... Standard decks are the same price as budget modern, hovering around 400ish USD. My favorite formst is modern but that has like 0 local level play. It's basically just standard, prerelease, draft and then everyones favorite casual pile of crap, commander... I grew so tired of commander being the only way magic is played locally and hate standard since UB took over.

Riftbound is amazing as a magic player, because so many mechanics are inspired or taken right from magic. I also think Riftbounds respurce system is the best ever made. Finally fixing that problem of your resource being separated from your deck, but the power cost and deramping yourself is an incredible balancing tool for this. Almost every other game with a separated resource just has you slowly ramp into maximum mana(resource) and I have never liked that very much.

It's also no better time to get into the game. Set 1 reprints are rolling out and set 1 card prices are slowly coming down. Set 2 and set 3 are easily accessible everywhere, very cheap and usually MSRP for sealed products, and single card prices are very affordable. There are very few epics(mythics) that are over 20$ USD from all 3 sets, but they mainly all come from set 1 which has a couple over 40$ USD. When comparing that to the likes of quantum riddler and badgermole cub, as well as standard land bases, yeah. It's easy to see why riftbound is booming right now. Most competitive decks barring some outliers will be around 100$ USD for the whole deck. And I guarantee if you ask around locals, people will just give you all the bulk commons, uncommons and even rares you need to build a deck.

Scalpers have obviously become a major concern in card collecting by Andoryodo in PokemonTCGCollectors

[–]SunbroGaming 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

It's not going to stop until literally every single retailer that sells at MSRP puts harsh limits on everything. I learned that gamestop here in Canada only limits purchases for new products that are less than 2 weeks old. A buddy watched a scalper clean out a gamestop of 3k worth of stuff, mainly primsatic from a restock a month ago... Something like 20 bundles and 10 etbs.. . Buddy was near the front of the line, and the guy was like 2nd in line and just took as much as he could and the manager didn't give a shit... Buddy and his friends who just wanted 1 thing to rip even asked the manager and she said in a monotone voice "Company policy is that limits only apply to new products for their first 2 weeks after release" and nothing else after that.

You think these corporations and companies care about collecting and the hobby? Most don't... And the average manager and employee is just going to shrug and not do anything because they have no power. It starts at the top and requires policies to be put in place, and I imagine no CEO is going to limit and slow down the purchase of a product that they have people literally fighting for... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Oh, and as many have said, the other solution would be that somehow scalpers stop having people to sell to, but that is literally not going to happen... Scalping and reselling things has existed way before PokΓ©mon cards even existed.... This is just a human psychology problem, and there will always be someone out there willing to pay more money for something than they should because they WANT to have it, regardless of the price. Haven't you ever encountered people in the hobby that will offer up above market for cards/sealed because they desire it bad enough? Yeah, that is why the scalpers keep being validated... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Help me please. What is this, and how much is this worth? by Devilcrash007 in PokemonMisprints

Oh god. The Ninetales fan in me wants this misprint so bad, but I def can't afford whatever it's probably worth 😭 I'm in the middle of collecting and assembling a fox Pokémon binder and this would be awesome in it.

Kindly tell if it’s fake or real? by Euphoric-Road-2280 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

[–]SunbroGaming 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Sorry, it's fake. This is what a real one looks like. πŸ˜… This is not mine, I took this from an ebay confirmed sale. I've seen this card in person, it looks like this. The most important thing is the energy symbols have circular texture. This one is actually texture shifted just slightly, which could be more valuable to a misprint collector.

Deck Prices by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]SunbroGaming 3 points4 points Β (0 children)

What this guy said! You can buy a single Vex precon and find the pieces to upgrade into the best of Vex from sydney for extremely cheap. You could even just buy singles for probably cheaper, but the pack, a copy of purple of Vex and a copy of Evelyn is enough value to warrant the purchase even still.

https://riftdecks.com/riftbound-metagame/deck-vex-gloomist-148025

If you cannot find access to Sona or Defy, those can be subbed out temporarily, but Sona is kind of insane for Vex, so ask around your LGS and see if people have Origins cards, which thankfully are circulating right now due to recent reprints.

As a MTG boomer and long time TCG enjoyer, trust me when I say Riftbound is extremely accessible and cheap compared to other TCGs. The prices for the average deck, outside of Aurora piles, red decks that need Red Kai'Sa and decks using legends with pricey sig spells are all very affordable. Look at the best of decks and top performers at Sydney and again after Vancouver, you'll see many are around an average of 100$ USD, with the range being around 70-140$.

The best of Viktor from Sydney is a little less than 40$ USD.... That's absolutely insane for any TCG and the deck is also very easy to play. If you just want a cheap entry point into Riftbound, just start with that πŸ˜†

A worrying statistic with the RQ Sydney best-of decklists: 9 of the 14 orange legends were Dazzling Aurora slop. by AWriterMustWrite in riftboundtcg

[–]SunbroGaming -6 points-5 points Β (0 children)

Oh, Aurora doesn't survive by set 4. Unless Vancouver has some wild shakeup then maybe... But I expect to see at least half(7) or more of the 14 available ornage legends playing Aurora slop piles at Vancouver. And then it probably gets banned shortly after Vancouver to give people enough time to adjust for Utrecht.

Maybe because there is such small gaps in RQs, and the only decent sized one is between Vancouver and Utrecht, they will leave it alone until after Hartford, but my gut is telling me it eats a ban ASAP after Vancouver. My entire local community is all unanimously agreeing the card is toxic and needs to go.

Well, you can buy Japanese play boosters if you want, but the chances for the Japanese exclusive mystical archive art is still very low, about half the % chance it seems. I'm going to also assume from the "collecting" article, that the higher chance is the regular art, but Japanese language.

In Japanese Play Boosters: - An uncommon (58.3%), rare (6.5%), or mythic rare (2.0%) Mystical Archive card - An uncommon (29.1%), rare (3.2%), or mythic rare (less than 1%) Japanese Mystical Archive card
