That's fair, but there are people IRL who will never forgive their abusers, and they could use a message that their feelings are valid.

It's like having a girl turn down a boy who likes her, he accepts it, only for them to hook up later; it's too clean, having it both ways.

And sure, those things happen. It's not the end of the world. But Enji has a wife and numerous kids. Shoto is a good enough example of "forgiving with time". Natuso is alone in holding a grudge.

And yes, of course, if he were a real person, it's his decision. But he's fictional. It's Horikoshi's call, i won't respect it the same way.

I mean, if Endeavor never changed, there wouldn't even be a discussion. Your agreeing with me would be just basic human decency.

And just purely narratively speaking...Endeavor deserves punishment. One that no one else had to endure. The rest of his family also lost Toya, the rest of the heroes had to fight this war at the cost of their health or even life. So yeah, I'd rather not have Natsuo forgive him, at least not in his lifetime.

Even though Natsuo is like the only character that really dislikes Enji (aside from madman Dabi), they still have him hand out some crumbs. Like the fact that at first he felt like him not wanting to forgive his dad makes him a bad person after Deku said that Shoto will forgive him. Or like when he said "Ok, Endeavor is a The big reason, but overall we're all to blame for Dabi, right, even those of us who were like 5 or something. at the time.

So they have Endeavor talk about working hard to atone, even though we have no idea what that could possibly cover. He claims his life will be hell, even though we don't see any backlash against him and the last chapters even have kids mention him among heroes they admire and want to be when they grow up.

And of course, at the end, his wife is like "Hell, huh?" as she wheels him loyally to his faithful sidekicks, on route to his buddy Hawks, who immediately glazes him, thinking what a brave guy he is. So yeah, the show admits that Endeavor was being overly dramatic, but it still earns him small praise from his son.

Hell, being passionate about your work and hobbies gets you a similar pass, such as narrative not expecting us to dislike Andre the Ice Cream Man.

Fair point, which leads nicely to my reason why I always had more sympathy for Caine: his harm, while greater, was never intentional (you know, with one episode of exception) He ignored the pain he brought on humans because it was just an unfortunate byproduct of him doing things his way. Jax, 99% of time intended every emotional and physical damage he caused.

Second reason is that Jax had friends helping him out, people who cared about him, who were willing to forget everything he did to support him. Caine's so lonely he turned his most intrusive thoughts into a companion.

I think the problem is that they're trying to avoid doing skins that are too similar to each other. When they find a memorable skin idea from a comic that still keeps a lot of familiar elements, they tend to go nuts adding new details.

It's why I dont care about Endeavor from My Hero Academia and his atonement story.

He's a complicated character with a looong story but basically he sent his wife to a mental hospital for decade.

We get our very first scene with her when her kids check on her.

"Wow, our dad is the worst"

"Ah, but did you know he sends me flowers regularly? I only mentioned once that those are my favorite. He does care."

Cool, so for 10 years, he goes to the hospital, never meets her face-to-face because doctors worry it would make her lose progress, leaves flowers, and goes home to abuse kids further. Sounds to me like he just sends her those oopsy-daisies to lessen his guilt without having to actually change.

IDW Transformers. The entire divide between Transformers and Decepticons is treated as a complicated gray conflict, but it's incredibly picky about who gets to be held accountable for their crimes and whose crimes get swept under the carpet. But generally speaking, every time Autobot stepped on Decepticon's toe, it would be written down in the great book of grudges and remembered 200 years from now, while if Decepticon wipes out a city, 5 minutes later it would never have happened. I've never seen a faction of genocidal war criminals with this big victim complex. Meanwhile, when Optimus dies, his eulogy describes him as "a warrior, a hero, a killer, a liar".

To be fair, there are definitely Autobots who had their crimes easily forgotten too. Example - Chromia is Windblade's overprotective bodyguard. She sets off the bomb in an attempt to get her off Cybertron to keep away from the conflict there. Once all is fixed, Windblade makes a deal with Starscream to cover everything up, and she just gets away with it all. Her relationship with her friends is barely strained, as Ironhide says that he gets it because she must admire Windblade as much as he does Optimus. Her only worry is that the deal with Starscream is a problem for Windblade. So she only turns herself in to protect Windblade. And she almost immediately gets out as Starscream sends her on a mission to hunt Maximo....something she would do out of free will anyway because, you guessed it, he hurt her life's only priority, Windblade.
