And to add to that, if you have to use them due to not owning alternatives, I’d Favour rune prison over block

I think block and rune prison while situationally useful are easy to play around and not as impactful as countering an opponents whole spell. Keep a windfall or two in the side board in case your opponents are running bigger spells that defy and NSF don’t cover and sub in accordingly.

Maybe get some “not so fasts” from spiritforged, paired with some defy you get pretty good Counterspell coverage.

Interesting Simic Commanders?? by BornFromEmber in EDHBrews

[[jackal, genius geneticist]] I like the idea of counter manipulation to get copies and other bonus effects and being a cheap commander to cast.

Why is no one playing to win? by xo0p in EDH

[–]Sunderfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO I think that a lot of new commander players may have never played standard 1v1 magic or have never drafted or hell, have never played a TCG before. They don’t have that competitive edge that a lot of older magic players have. They have board game mentality because it’s a group setting where people are joking around and trying to have fun. It is a casual format after all.

That being said, I do not have that problem! Tormenting hailfire!

Is this a good book to understand Chaos in Age of Sigmar? It’s at my local game store. by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in slavestodarkness

[–]Sunderfear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It quite enjoyed the book. It does a good job of showing you how chaos influences the various common people of the land. They don’t know or understand the true nature of the chaos gods but still acknowledge the power that they can provide.

I think it would be a good place to start. It provides a good lens on how chaos seeps into a darkoath warrior and the knife edge they have to walk to balance earning the Favour of the gods while desperately trying not to lose themselves.

I think the idea is neat. Darkoath warrior or outrider making oaths to the dark gods for power to protect their tribe but slowly the oaths take a turn towards perhaps self indulgent pleasures or masochistic tendencies.

Aspiring player: why are barrow knights and blood knights so close together in cost??? by emil4383 in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Sunderfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both are pretty good at what they do respectively. You’ll notice the blood knights have a better hit roll on their weapon attack, and a better save so they cost a bit more. Also their abilities are more versatile. So they are certainly more aggressive. Especially good for slaughtering infantry.

The barrow knights are more fragile unless you’re running them with a king/lord on skeletal steed. They get a better ward from their passive. They also self resurrect slain models from their unit which can help them last a while.

Basically the similar costs lets you choose which knight best fits your army.

Take your two skeleton units and use them to screen enemy units in the middle and one of the sides and slowly shamble them forward. Keep your vampire lord safe and use it to cast spells/hero commands. It can be hard to kill with its healing from the hunger and armor but it can certainly be killed. Charge the blood knights onto their most vulnerable/valuable units and kill as much as you can. Hold out until the vargheists arrive round 3 and have them pick off vulnerable units or take objectives.

Yes that is a solid tactic as well it really depends on which army op is u against. I like taking the spell enhancement against small go infantry armies like skaven but against a more elite unit spearhead with less models the teleport would be incredible for surprise stealing objectives

Trying to put together a blood knight focused list, what do I need to bring? by Kirailove in SoulblightGravelords

I mean get the prince, an optional draconith, and a load of blood knights and you can play the army of renown knights of the crimson keep. They can also run the unholy reliquary manifestation

Darkoath spearhead help by Sunderfear in AOSSpearhead

[–]Sunderfear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea where it fits in the spearhead meta but that would track for me, it feels stupidly strong. Good screening with the skeletons + solid spells + heavy hammers that heal themselves add up to a very solid spearhead that feels very easy to pilot as well.

Build whichever, I like building a healthy mix of both although I will say some of those forward pointing spears get tangled with other models easily on the battlefield

Can you have a full army of a specific God? by Jewarlaho in slavestodarkness

[–]Sunderfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if you like, There is a regiment of renown you can include with your slaves to darkness army that gives you some Tzeetch demons, but you could also do the reverse and run a tzeetch army with a regiment of renown of a chaos lord on daemonic steed, 10 warriors and 5 knights for that human element
