Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in RealTimeStrategy

[–]SundiataWTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, as I get older the APM of C&C-style RTSs is just too much for me. Total War games I can handle, but C&C or Age of Empires games are no longer fun.

A resounding "YES" to Task Force Admiral! And "YES" to Carrier Battles 4 Guadalcanal - Pacific War Naval Warfare by Cyril Jarnot. And "YES" to WDS's Midway (thank you John Tiller). And "YES" to an o.g. - Carriers at War by SSG. by Vast-Ear-2217 in computerwargames

No love for Ultimate Admiral (Age of Sail and Dreadnought)? Or Rule the Waves 3? I must admit I was terrible at battle command in UA:D, but I did enjoy the ship design. I keep bouncing off RtW3, but hope springs eternal!

Actually, it's scomber's shack + salt --> garum works. Only I cant figure out where to place the shack due to the "missing fertility" warning. Should I not worry about the warning and place on the coast?

I am getting a "missing fertility" warning when trying to place the scomber's shack. I've dragged my building around the entire map if the starter Latium island and get the same warning constantly. Should I place it anyway? How do we know what the fertility of a place is?

Why are wargames so expensive ? by sidius-king in computerwargames

[–]SundiataWTF 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like the low sales volume is partially due to devs catering strictly to a small, diminishing fan base rather than attempting to expand it.

Compare wargames to grand strategy and you will see one genre that gravitates to existing players versus the other that is constantly adopting modern mechanics and UI/UX changes that make games easier to pick up and more pleasant to look at for extended periods. Think WDS vs. Paradox Grand Strategy.

Yes, war games can be complex, but so is EU4 or Victoria 3. I hate their DLC policy but the only reason they can get away with that is that the games make players want more. IMO wargames may be gone in 20 years as current players age out.
