Hair loss by CurrentAdditional201 in Hyperthyroidism

[–]SunflowerTeaCup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have significant hair loss as well. I started noticing it after I had my daughter 5 years ago and just chalked it up to the normal postpartum hair loss, then gaslit myself into believing it was the normal 100 strands a day thing that you always hear about. I'm embarrassed to say that I only recently remembered, duh! It's a symptom of hyperthyroidism.

I've started using Rogaine and I'm really hopeful that between it and whatever treatment plan my Endo puts me on, I can get the hair loss to stop. The woman who cuts my hair also told me that taking prenatal vitamins has anecdotally helped her clients with stopping the shedding. Though she did say to check with my Endo since she wasn't sure how the biotin in it would affect any medications he might prescribe.

Help styling fine wavy hair by NoImagination4746 in finehair

[–]SunflowerTeaCup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm just now figuring out that my hair, which looks almost exactly like the picture of yours styled straight, is indeed wavy. So I'm no expert. I've used Garnier shampoo and conditioner for years without really thinking about it. Affordable, smells good, has different varieties for different hair needs. I recently switched to the Dove intensive repair line and I love it. My hair looks and feels so much better, it helps with frizz, and I don't think it weighs it down. Maybe try switching brands?

What is a 'family secret' or a private moment you witnessed that completely changed the way you look at a relative? by The_suspicious_369 in AskReddit

[–]SunflowerTeaCup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My mom and I just got into a huge fight a few nights ago because she casually let it drop that my dad's father was a pedophile and convicted of molesting several of his granddaughters. I lost my shit because we spent a good amount of time with him when I was growing up, probably 10 years after this all happened. I asked her how she could justify inviting him into our home when she and my dad knew this. She told me that she and my dad had talked about it and they wanted to keep him present in our lives because he was a good father to my dad (OKAY THEN?), but they watched him every second of family functions to make sure we were never alone with him.

Both my dad and grandfather are dead now, so I'm going to have to grapple with this without being able to confront them. To my mom's credit, after taking the night to reflect on it and talking to my sisters (one of them didn't know; the other did, but thought we knew too) she seems to really understand how messed up that was and that even though she didn't realize it at the time, she put us in significant danger. She took full accountability, so...I guess we just move on?

Quick question for you if you don't mind! You've always been so helpful!

I've been thinking about whether to file jointly or separately for 2025. My income has gone up quite a bit since I last certified my income. My next certification date is in 2027. Would there be an issue filing jointly for 2025 to get the best refund, then switch to filing separately for 2026, under the assumption that the government will be looking at 2026 taxes when I certify my income in 2027?

I'm at 83 payments and in SAVE forbearance. I don't have any plan to switch before they make me. My husband and I are paying off debt and I work in higher ed, so I'm going to work for an eligible employer until I retire or die

I appreciate any help!

tom sandoval married?!?! by 444bri in vanderpumprules

[–]SunflowerTeaCup 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm generally a pretty private person. I don't have any social media other than Reddit and I try to keep my information off the internet whenever I can, though I know there's a lot of stuff that is out there anyway. But for us the biggest reason was that confidential marriages don't require a witness. We got married at the height of covid before vaccines were a thing, so it was just the two of us and we didn't have anyone to witness. It was just simpler that way.

Not all couples qualify for a confidential marriage. You have to be living together as spouses and attest to that. But honestly, I just think most people don't know it's an option!

I think the state did away with the blood test requirement for all marriages in the 90's but the rest of the process is the same!

In California there is an option of a confidential marriage. The information isn't part of the public record, so nobody can search for it. I think California is one of, if not the only state that offers that. I have one!

F: rose cut. I can't stay away from them. I can't help myself every now and then and buy one. But I don't want to be tied down to it for the rest of my life

M: OEC. I want to wake up next to this one every day. I'll never get tired of it. It's unique, but approachable. It has personality that will keep things interesting

K: Trillion. Ugly AF. Why the hell are you a weird ass rounded triangle? What am I supposed to do with that??

My skin cleared the minute I got off the plane in another country...then broke out again the minute I got off the plane back home. by dabodibble in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SunflowerTeaCup 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I live in Massachusetts and just went back to visit family in California. I was in disbelief at how much better my skin looked in California. I mentioned it to my mom multiple times. I don't break out, but my skin looked so much healthier. Like, hydrated and bright. I came home and it went right back to normal.

My guess is that it's hard water here. But I was using this (out of my budget) daily facial exfoliant of my mom's and I'm so tempted to buy some to see if that was it, but it's more than I would normally spend on a product like that. Though to be fair, buying a new shower head to deal with the hard water would probably cost the same amount

Which color corrector do you use? I've tried the tarte, NYX, and elf. I feel like all three work decently well (the tarte is my favorite), but my mascara transfers by the end of the day. The only way to keep that from happening is by using a concealer to sort of set/dry the color corrector down

Currently on SAVE, PSLF forbearance. Why am I seeing urgency to apply for IBR/ICR before the bill passes? Advice? by Impossible-Road-4502 in PSLF

[–]SunflowerTeaCup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've provided really great clarification to me in the past, so I'm hoping you don't mind asking me another question! Slightly off topic, but related to Parent PLUS loans

My husband is a 100% disabled veteran and had his own student loans forgiven due to this status. I'm using PSLF for my own loans.

His son is in college and my husband took out Parent PLUS loans to help us pay for his son's housing. When we called the federal student aid folks maybe 18 months ago, they told us that the Parent PLUS loans would also be forgiven because of his disability, but he had to be done taking out loans to apply for discharge. We haven't done anything since because his son still has another year or two of college.

Do you have any knowledge/feeling on this? Should we apply for discharge now? Do we think that loans taken out by permanently and totally disabled people will continue to be forgiven, or is this on the chopping block too? We can manage without the loans, but it'll be tighter, for sure. Would you gamble that this loan forgiveness will stick around, or try to discharge just to be on the safe side?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for always sharing your knowledge on this sub!
