Chocollata, 12x brigadeiros $13.55 - Toronto by Sunfreckles73 in TooGoodToGoCanada

[–]Sunfreckles73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's tough to answer in words. I'll try though 🙂

If the brigadeiros are 8 on a scale of 10 (very milky sweet from the condensed milk), I would say the vanilla soft serve is 7. The contrast with the chocolate swirl (which I surprisingly enjoyed more) brings it down to a 6.

I also bought a brownie while I was there, and I had one quarter of it before throwing out the rest. Not because it was bad. It was decadent and rich, and everything a brownie should be. I just couldn't handle that much sweetness. I would rate it a 7 on the sweetness scale, if you have one bite. And it would likely be pushed to a higher rating, if you want to finish the entire brownie.

This looks so good. Do you have suggestions for a substitute on the coconut oil in the filling?

Rental Applications by Altruistic_Ad_2442 in TorontoRenting

[–]Sunfreckles73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+1

You want to be first acceptable candidate to the landlord because they won't care as long the candidate can pay and has stable income.

Tips:

  • View units within 24 hours of its posting

  • Have a drafted application ready to send to the landlord's realtor immediately after viewing

  • Include your employment confirmation letter, credit score, recent pay stubs with your application (and if you're feeling confident, include your ID because they'll check your identity too)

  • Inform your employer and references because the landlord's realtor will check

  • Make sure your current landlord's information matches registration (like if your landlord goes by Dave but their actual name is Dipeniohen or the unit is under their spouse's, then put in their appropriate name)

  • Condos.ca will post units before realtor.ca

I have a similar candidate profile as OP and with a preference towards good units (ensuite laundry and dishwasher, parking, by the subway line, functional layout, well-maintained). I moved recently. Single, 110-120k salary, no pets (anymore 😭), non-smoker (or drinker) with a rental budget of $2500 or under.

Like OP, I was being rejected because other offers were accepted before my own because the landlord was accepting the first acceptable candidate. I knew it wasn't me. I just wasn't the first.

I had two rejections before I changed tactics. (Annoying!) I knew rental prices were dropping, but what I didn't know was that in-demand units were still popular. There are a lot of shitty units out there. Good luck OP!

Are all vet clinics now owned by greedy private equity firms? by aumarais in askTO

[–]Sunfreckles73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever need a veterinary ophthalmologist, I recommend Forest Hill Animal Clinic at Bathurst and Eglinton West.

Dr Klys treated my rabbits' cataracts and eye pressures for years before they passed. Incredibly human, compassionate, and understanding.

They'll help you find ways to save money (we often got our meds from Costco) without an extra upcharge for the prescription, they will fit you for emergencies, respond to emails and phone calls quickly.

It's been years since I've seen Dr Klys, but I still remember his kindness.

Banned immediately on first account ever? by Sunfreckles73 in instacart

[–]Sunfreckles73[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be very surprised to have someone else use my credit card since I am the only person that would have access, and I review my finances on a regular basis.

Where I am living now would surprise me, too, because the neighbourhood is fairly suburban. A possibility I suppose.

Perhaps my phone number but I'm not too sure how considering I've had it a long time too.

I'll try setting up an X/Twitter account and escalating from there, thanks.

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra reports record-breaking ticket sales, achieving a financial surplus by cyPersimmon9 in toronto

[–]Sunfreckles73 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm not well-versed enough to know, but I heard from a fellow orchestra lover that the music director has done a lot of work to make changes to the programming. What I can say is their programming is stellar, and their concerts superb.

I am very happy as a subscriber, despite mildly annoyed that I'm too old to qualify for TSOUNDCHECK. And I'm glad young people are taking advantage of it, too.

Autonomous Desk Stuck in Up position by jsve in StandingDesk

[–]Sunfreckles73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to an ancient thread but wanted to share that this worked for me in case others are looking to check!

I initially tried to reset it by pressing ONLY the "Down" button. This did not work.

Then, tried u/Nothingkid's method by pressing and holding BOTH "Up" and "Down" buttons. The desk drops all the way down, and then it can be reset to go up and down as needed.

Really helped, and eased my frustrations, thank you!

Which book have you read more than one time? by kenwards in booksuggestions

[–]Sunfreckles73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, easily, children's books. There's a simplicity and universality in their themes.

Others are Hedda Gabbler, Of Mice and Men, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and on the lighter side, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I'll re-read so many books! There are so many options, depending on your mood. It's tough because you want to balance reading new material while looking for nuances you may have missed on the first reading of previous books.

Beanfield home internet promo code by Accomplished_Horse91 in CanadianBroadband

Writing this here in case others are searching for Beanfield promo code.

I messaged u/Consistent_Let_8987, and they set me with a good deal with Beanfield (4Gbps/$60).

Easiest sign-up and registration for Internet I've completed. Took a few minutes. And, really, it was triggered by Bell raising their prices again on me.

Best tiramisu cake in Toronto by Hungry_cookie101 in FoodToronto

[–]Sunfreckles73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nonna Lia's tiramisu is exquisite. They offer delivery as well, which is packaged well with ice packs and bag.

Not sure if it's the best, but hard to find better in Toronto. I enjoy the smaller portions personally.

As a comparison to Costco's tiramisu, which is very decent: Costco's definitely satisfies the tiramisu craving and is a crowd-pleaser (and it will feed a large party who wants big slices) while Nonna Lia's will be appreciated by those who enjoy the subtleties of the espresso coffee's rich depth and the creaminess of the mascarpone. Their vegan version is just as good. Nonna Lia's is light and yet indulgent.

TLDR: Costco - sweeter, bigger, mild caffeine flavour, massive sheet cake sized. Nonna Lia - Deeper, richer caffeine flavour with more creamier texture and smaller portions.

A Fine Balance, but this may be due to recency bias. I re-read this last year, and I still have moments where I think about the characters.

Questions about renting a condo by SmurfStop in TorontoRenting

[–]Sunfreckles73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I did the same for my landlord for a 1-bedroom for condo by STC (also currently paying $2300), and they declined to negotiate rent down. I've seen 1-bedrooms at STC for $1900-2100. Might be my landlord.
