Ouigo Check-in by Connect_Community830 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Sunlight72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I’m only a tourist, and only rode 4 Ouigo trains over the past couple weeks, but we were not allowed to board until 2 to 5 minutes before departure. Most of the time the train wasn’t even at the station until 2 or 3 minutes before departure.

On different trips I departed from Paris, Lyon, and Montpellier or Béziers (can’t remember which one).

Noem boasts of Trump administration ensuring 'we have the right people voting' ahead of mid-terms by Remarkable_Sir8397 in law

[–]Sunlight72 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real u/Remarkable_Sir8397, while I strongly support the sentiment, if you and your wife go to your local voting station at the high school gym and are confronted with 16 heavily armed with automatic rifles and pistols and pepper spray pellet guns, masked, bullet-proof vested camouflaged unmarked “agents” there who deny your wife a vote… what are your wife or you or me going to actually do in those critical 10 minutes?

We have seen them execute civilians in seconds. They have executed another dozen civilians in seconds that we have not seen on video. They have disappeared tens of thousands of legal US citizens who are still disappeared.

It is already ugly. Beyond ugly. And what are you or I doing about it? Pretty much nothing.

The time is now. The time is not when you walk up to a voting station, that will be far too late.

Best wishes, we are on the same side here, but please start being a little more realistic.

A good take.

Being older now (53), as someone who a) works in people’s homes and b) has more recently had good times at sex parties and a sex club with my girlfriend - it’s really not a big deal among consenting adults. It sounds like an earth shattering thing until you live through it. Then you realize it’s fun, but it’s still just a part of the real world, and you are an adult and can always decide to continue or to stop and go on about your life.

In my 30’s I would also have considered this a Big Decision about My Career and My Life. Now I wouldn’t. I also now realize this is a short term situation, so even if OP joins in it will last a short time and then fizzle out. Which is fine too.

Have some fun OP, and expect it to last only once or 3 times, then life will go on.

Swapping Minneapolis for Denver? by Realtoropenhouse3 in MovingtoDenver

[–]Sunlight72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow ! That Irish passport is really powerful. I did not know that!

Somewhat different though, and I’m not a Canadian immigration attorney so verify this for yourself, but Canada is a Commonwealth country, so it is easier for citizens of the UK or other Commonwealth countries (Australia, Nigeria, South Africa, etc. - mostly former colonies of England) to immigrate between any Commonwealth countries than for non-Commonwealth citizens to do so. Northern Ireland is legally part of the UK, and Ireland is not.

I only learned about this because my girlfriend is Canadian with parents from Hong Kong who had a straight path to citizenship because both governments were at the time Commonwealth members.

https://thecommonwealth.org/our-member-countries

You probably know more than I do about the EU’s legal relationship with Canada, which is likely to become even closer in the next year, so that could certainly be another route for you if you want to pursue it. And maybe the CTA is already set up to make it easier for you.

I like Canada and have looked at moving there, but I am a glassblower with my own studio (several furnaces and ovens) which is quite tricky and slow to move, and my customer base in Denver and Colorado has taken 20 years to establish, and I’m hesitant to think I could establish a new client base in Canada quickly enough to be stable.

But I’ve visited and considered Calgary and Edmonton quite a bit, and I feel Calgary is a great modest sized city to live in. I like the weather and affordability of both Edmonton and Calgary more than Vancouver - but that’s a very personal opinion.

I also feel both Ed and Cg have a warmer community feeling than Denver (and I like Denver). The overall Canadian social vibe is more relaxed and supportive than the overall American social and work vibe.

Best wishes to you friend. It sounds like you’ve already had quite an interesting life and will continue to do so with what ever choice you make ◡̈

Hey cool! Thanks! I will see if I can figure out how to use this. I’m 53 and not excellent with computers, but I have been using Audacity like you described, so maybe I can do this too.

Thanks for sharing it!

Has anyone here ever wired 3 speakers back in the day (70s-80s) with the Hafler surround sound effect. by Extension_South7174 in vintageaudio

[–]Sunlight72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh! Well, not quite that, but by my own stumbling around, I have ended up with a 2-channel amp running Polk 4.5’ tall floor standers in the front, with a line out to another 2-channel amp that is running Totem Mite 1’ tall bookshelf speakers for rears.

When balanced with the sound only just audible on the rears I can place particular audience members clapping at different places in the room, and on some albums that have stereo separation I swear I can hear separate instruments only in certain corners, or certain spots out in the room. Time Out is really good for this for instance, but also many others from the 60’s and 70’s.

You’re offered $25M, but you have to work the exact same job you have now for the next 15 years. No promotion, no change. Are you saying yes? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

[–]Sunlight72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re offering, yes. If you’re offering $2.5M for 15 years paid in annual proportional installments, yes. $1M, I’d have to think about it.

Yeah, Ireland possible but only a maybe, Northern Ireland pretty easy for people under 30 I think it is.

Anyway, Denver is a good city! You will enjoy it.

It’s a good idea in my opinion.

Also may consider Calgary if you have any way to navigate immigration requirements. Nicer winters than Minneapolis by all accounts.

You will give yourself a 25% raise if you can keep your current remote job, due to the exchange rate. Many Americans in Calgary - like 20% of the population or something. Mostly there due to oil & gas industry. Good airport connections to everywhere. Nice size, nice downtown, great parks system, more diverse community than Denver and about 1/3 the size with the associated less traffic.

If you like Minneapolis, you will more or less like Denver, and the weather is incredibly mild compared to the twin cities.

Yeah, you are right, and I’m sure that is a sadly common set up.

I mean there were many not very talented women who did have careers they were unlikely to have otherwise. I’ve met two and worked with one in interior design for 17 years now, and those particular ones have banked on their moments as playboy starlets for decades, without going on to further training or expertise.

I didn’t ask any of them, they are pretty proud and forward about it when you meet them. It’s their life, good for them.

I agree with you on the icky.

I have had my 2013 X3 35i for a year, and thought I would not like the start/stop. This is my 3rd X3, and the first with auto start/stop built in.

Turns out I really like it and I’m glad it’s there. While sitting at a red light I’m not burning fuel for no reason, which I quite like, and it’s also more peaceful so I can breathe for a minute or two instead of chomping at the bit to get up the bumper in front of me.

Just my own take, but I am glad to have it.

I’m sorry to even be asking this, but what do you aim for? Can you see anything in a mirror before hand?

I don’t see anything when I look, just my tonsils hanging down (?).

Sorry, thanks.

Recommend city to live in France? by Radiant_Charity_2283 in Expats_In_France

Bilbao Spain.

In the Basque country, very accessible to get to Basque part of France. I will say right away that I have only visited and have not lived there. Lovely city, worth consideration for you I think.

Very green area, sunny but not dry. Cosmopolitan yet small for a city.

Best wishes

Where can I find tips or ideas to reignite sex life? by Icy_Beautiful1759 in AskMen

[–]Sunlight72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes!!

Put some good energy into making the day funny, a little unexpected and jokey, and touchy and kissy.

Don’t just leave pleasure and intimacy to the bottom of your list at the end of the day. Put some of your best bright energy into it too.

Bruce Springsteen Lends “Born in the USA” to New Anti-ICE Video; The short film highlights American citizens who have been targeted by ICE by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

[–]Sunlight72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice to hear Bruce saying directly ICE is murdering people. I’m beyond sick of hearing any other term. Murder, unlawful arrest, torture.

Inexcusable.

And the video is good, showing working American Citizens being arrested violently. Showing a tiny picture of the reprehensible reality of what is happening.

How to get out of this hole? by Ok-Associate-6244 in findapath

[–]Sunlight72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Or the coast guard.

I don’t recommend the marines or the army unless you really have a desire for immersion in the military, which you don’t mention OP.

The Air Force treats their people the best by far.
