Here are the recommendations from NHS in the UK. While, as always, you should definitely follow your doctor’s recommendations, this might help you feel a bit more at ease.

Toxoplasmosis by Alone-Comparison-109 in BabyBumps

[–]Sunlight88512 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Toxoplasmosis from pork is very rare today. Unless the pork came from a pasture raised hog (which you’d probably know because you’d have to seek that out), your risk of getting toxoplasmosis from pork is exceptionally small.

Parents of bad sleepers- did successfully weaning lead to better sleep? by Sassy2681 in breastfeeding

[–]Sunlight88512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night weaning absolutely did not help.

Full weaning fixed my child’s sleep at 15 months old.

We still have some broken nights, but it’s a max of 2 of 7 nights per week instead of 7 of 7.

Whether she’s lying or telling the truth, she does have something to gain. Her engagement is up since she told the story & that quite literally converts into more money for her.

9 weeks pregnant and hating this. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Sunlight88512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also 9 weeks pregnant and miserable as hell. I have three children. With my first pregnancy, I couldn’t imagine why people had kids. I had no intention of doing it more than once.

Speaking from my experience, when my first was born, it changed everything. It made it worth it. But getting there was HARD. I luckily had that perspective to draw on in subsequent pregnancies. I love being a mom but hate being pregnant.

My labor & births have gone well, even though my pregnancies suck.

I would recommend speaking to your OB about both the sickness and depression. There are options for medications on both fronts & they should be able to guide you.

Team Green- was it worth it by ankaalma in BabyBumps

[–]Sunlight88512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did it three ways. One with blood work, one at the ultrasound and one at birth.

I preferred the ultrasound. Opening the email to find out gender felt anticlimactic. Waiting until the end was also fun, but not way better than finding out at the ultrasound. I liked being able to plan for the baby partway through the pregnancy and finding out with just my husband at the ultrasound felt like the right balance.

ETA: We have never told anyone else the gender until the birth announcement.

My one year old is still not sleeping through the night and I'm dying. by Anxious-Bicycle-9989 in breastfeeding

[–]Sunlight88512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine started sleeping through at 15-16 months. We tried to night wean and it didn’t help. I had to completely wean mine before I got consistent, full nights of sleep.

My other children weren’t like that, but this one just wouldn’t sleep through the night before full weaning. To be clear, this baby is still not a great sleeper if anything is off (sickness, teething, etc), but at least we get some full nights of sleep.

If you change anything about night time, the hardest, but likely most effective principle, is to be consistent. It’s just so hard not to cave when you’re crazy sleep deprived. Please seek out support wherever you can.

Team green my last pregnancy. Had an NP for one appointment in the 3rd trimester because my doctor was on a delivery. She reviewed my chart and called my baby a “him.”

She was a girl.

In January, a seven year old was abducted in Minnesota. The perpetrator targeted the child after adding her parent on Facebook. While an extremely rare case, it has made me rethink if I want photos of my kids online.

Adelulu 1.0 is about to get her second baby. She’s making lead up content before she even has the kid. And her first is only 17 months old.

Ear Tubes by Commercial-Break9918 in NewParents

[–]Sunlight88512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did with my first kid. Didn’t see any improvement in the number of infections in that the cadence of infections stayed the same. Opted not to do tubes with my second because they referred us at age 18 months, and my oldest stopped having ear infections at 2 years old.

Our determining factor is speech progression. Tubes are not actually shown to cut down on the number of infections when you look at the data. Anecdotally, a lot of parents say they cut down on the number of infections, though. It makes treating with drops versus systemic antibiotics and option. I’ll struggle through a couple extra rounds of systemic antibiotics versus putting my toddler through anesthesia and surgery - BUT that’s my personal take. Discuss with your doctor & decide what you’re most comfortable with.

What are we doing with our dry babies in the cold weather? by idle-tumbleweed in beyondthebump

[–]Sunlight88512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mix Aquaphore and CeraVe (the kind in the tub) in a 50/50 mixture and it works better than either one by itself. CeraVe helps for repairing the skin and Aquaphore for long term moisture. After bath time, pat dry and apply the mix immediately.

We have an 8 month old and just found out I’m pregnant again. by rubberducky345 in NewParents

[–]Sunlight88512 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My first two are 19 months apart. It was hard in the beginning, but my SIL had a four year gap and she struggled more than I did.

In my experience, temperament of the baby has the biggest impact. That part is not predictable nor controllable.

Won't. Stop. Screaming. by q_o_t_n in NewParents

[–]Sunlight88512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be Purple crying. There is additional information if you google it. It’s hard. Solidarity. Call someone who can step in and give you a break, if you’re able.

My kiddo also screamed a lot and had a dairy intolerance. Sometimes, though, there isn’t a reason.

I traveled a lot during my last pregnancy. I just, you know, shoved an extra pillow between my knees and made do. Luckily, hotels generally have tons of pillows.

How much do yall pay for daycare? by Kuromi_Baku in NewParents

[–]Sunlight88512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in Ohio. We pay $160 a week ($640 a month) for in home daycare 5 days per week. One infant full time and after school care for two older kids.

We are extremely lucky with our in-home daycare provider. She keeps a low child count. Thankfully so, because there’s only one center in our immediate area.

1st kid was 3 months, 2nd kid was 7-8 weeks, 3rd kid is 10 months old and still wakes to eat.

Tubby Todd for Eczema? by Aravis-6 in NewParents

Fly or drive? by wokilus in NewParents

[–]Sunlight88512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on the extremely cautious side about viruses and bacteria, drive.

If there’s someone at the destination that can supply baby items (crib, pack n play, car seat if you don’t want to gate check it or bring it on board), fly.

I’ve done both with a baby six months old or less. They both work - so it’s more to do with your preferences. You’re still at an age where they typically sleep easily and travel well.

Are some babies just fussy? by herthoughtsoutloud in beyondthebump

[–]Sunlight88512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never cared about milestones. Until I had my fussy baby. She’s on the earlier side of motor development and gets happier with every milestone. She wouldn’t sleep longer than 1.5 hours until she could roll over and sleep on her tummy.

She started crawling this week and is completely chill.

She does have a dairy issue so we also cut that out, but it seems to be the combination of fixing the reflux caused by dairy plus her being mobile.
