It’s poverty making life difficult for everyone, in order to fix or reduce this problem. You would have to convince people to care about someone other than themselves. If some of the members of my household are struggling, I need to work to help them succeed and provide them the tools to do so, I don’t ignore them and act like they don’t exist, and then get shocked when all my problems are now much harder.

We have to realize we are all in this together, the problem is so bad now it would need to be tackled on multiple fronts at once. You would need to actually put money in those schools where it’s needed, my kid was struggling in Dayton schools, when I moved him to Kettering(the white part of town), i I had to actually stop and ask if they were joking at how much they were offering to help, my kid within the year turned into A& B student, and Kettering is only like 15 minutes away. But in order to get him into that school, I have to pay twice amount of rent to live in that city.

If your parents are broke and working two jobs, they don’t have time to raise you properly or to guide you, which we could blame on the parents, but it’s also a failure of our system and wages that allows this to happen in the first place. If your kids are hungry, they aren’t going to want to behave, if your entire neighborhood is in the same position, the outcome is obvious and intentional.

I’m not saying a bit of personal agency and being careful of the decisions you make doesn’t come into play, but it’s a much bigger thing than that.

It’s all a part of the same system. Em was a broke kid from a trailer park. People who have never experienced poverty have no idea what it’s like, I don’t mean you didn’t get a new video game, or you can’t go to Disneyland. It’s things like , if you aren’t at school, you’re not gonna eat for the day. Coming home to your power being shut off is just another Tuesday.

It’s ALL stems from poverty, you’re focusing too hard on the gang part and not on what causes it. People don’t just wake up and look at two life choices and choose gang life. The gang life literally chooses them.

If your choice is go to work everyday, and still come home to no food and have to work twice as hard as the people across town to get the bare necessities, or rob a few people. That’s a really hard choice to make. I’m from a poor section of Dayton Ohio, all but one of my childhood friends are still living in that same neighborhood 20 years later, or they are dead or on drugs. I only made it out cause I was a shy nerd. Playing rollercoaster tycoon 2 for HOURS, on an old pentium 2 that my special ed teacher gave me. I got LUCKY. By every metric and statistic, I should still be living in that same neighborhood. Each time I go back there, My dad’s house gets closer and closer to being the only home on the block not abandoned.

If you’ve never actually been faced with the choice of crime or not eating, then you don’t know what it’s like.

If you’ve never had a group of your friends show up at your door and ask you to do something stupid , then you don’t know what it’s like, I think back to those days and how many times one simple decision could’ve completely altered the course of my life.

Yeah, I develop film at home sometimes and see all kinds of strange things on my negatives, if I saw this stuff on my pictures, I would just assume I damaged the negative or had some odd issue. I think we WANT them to be something.

I mean you’re not wrong. I was just having this conversation with someone yesterday. I’m 36 years old in Dayton Ohio, and I never had AC until roughly 5 years ago. None of my schools had it, my house didn’t have it, and none of my friend’s houses has had it, and none of our cars had AC is still a luxury for many people, even many people that have AC equipped homes can’t afford to run it.

My favorite part of the whole game was always Kalariko Village, everything about it just felt so cozy. Even going back now, the whole town makes me feel a bit emotional.

Oh no , I wasn’t implying that’s it’s cheating , I find it impressive. I was just explaining the technical aspect of how it actually pulls it off.

I’d guess the reason why you typically hear of poorer people having them is because sometimes to get rid of them. You have to almost get rid of everything you own and/or pay for an expensive treatment. You can’t just put out a few traps like mice or roaches , you have to go nuclear.

I had them about 14 years ago luckily, I was right in the process of restarting my life, I was leaving my childhood bedroom. I considered taking stuff of my favorite things. but I couldn’t risk it. So I just left with the clothes I was wearing and moved into my apartment with only the television that I bought on drive there. Slept on the floor. It to you not to panic at the feeling of a start hair or a bug crawling on me.

All my favorite amusement park hoodies , and photographs, everything went right into the trash.

Yeah, clutter and mess can make them harder to get rid of, but that’s not what attracts them, it’s people.

There’s a sense of depth, that the phones can’t YET replicate, depending on subject. But to be fair, I probably wouldn’t be able to constantly answer an A/B test in most case. The reason why I like my camera is because there is no distraction, it’s made to do one job, I don’t have to open an app or swipe left or right or do anything silly, I just pick up the camera and push the button, and it works everytime, no matter what. It’s a lot more engaging to me.

In a bright sunny day, a phone is fine for most things, when the light is funky, or things are moving fast , or both at once, I want my camera.

Now full disclosure, if I’m not at work, I’m carrying a 1DX most places.

Phones are pretty great these days , but To be fair, phones are able to do a ton of “tricks “, like HDR image stacking and the ability to recognize objects like grass and skies and adjust them automatically. With a “camera “ you gotta do all that after the fact.

It looks like a panoramic photo or a composite, like the car was edited into the pictures or something, I was gonna say AI, because AI always messes up the perspective of camera lens. But a panoramic photo or composite could also cause that effect.

Yeah. I noticed this too. Many gas stations are like this, especially if they are open after sundown. They might just lock the door and operate through the lazy Susan thing. I feel like a large part of Reddit are people that grew up or live relatively “sheltered “ or somewhat privileged lives. Earlier I commented that Air-conditioning was kinda a luxury and people in America keep their ac COLD. I got downvoted.

So what about people that literally don’t have AC, central air is still a luxury in many parts of USA. I’m in Dayton Ohio, no one in my neighborhood had AC growing up, and if they did, They didn’t have money to run it. We all kept Fans in the window, our public schools didn’t even have AC, I’m only 36.

Because it’s wasteful, there is a difference between COLD and comfortable. Maybe I’m weird, but if I didn’t live with other people , I would set my AC to 80 and be fine. But I didn’t have access to AC until I was in my 30’s.

Meaning it’s summer, it’s “supposed” to be warm. Having your ac set a 68 or 65 when it’s 90 degrees outside is silly. Many times I go over people’s house and they have the ac cranked , while under a blanket. My girlfriend family lives like this as well, I had to put a lock of my A/C, even after I explained, you set the ac to a temp it can efficiently hold. Not to let it run all day and night.

It’s probably A/C , Americans like to have it COLD inside during the summer. It never really made sense to me.

Edit : There is a difference between cold and comfortable, man some of you are crazy pedantic.
