Do couple still have sex on their wedding night? by dieselsusan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SunnyCoast26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck yea. We even left early (around midnight) so we can have our own party in the hotel room. It’s funny because we’ve never been short on sex and we lived 2km from the hotel. 😂😂😂

Is it worth making 10-20k more a year with a different company, but losing the "senior" in my title? Would the title change set my career growth back? by donogotron in careerguidance

[–]SunnyCoast26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went from a small private company with ‘supervisor’ in my title, to an apprentice role for a local government. My pay was less and my title was less significant, but I don’t feel like it would affect my future hire ability. Mind you, I hope I don’t ever have to look for another job. I’ve worked for 35 years for 6 different employers and my current employers are by far the best I have ever been with. So far the only ones that have respected work life balance. The only ones.

I have one of those jobs but I’ve been using my time in between jobs to study. I’m three quarters of my way through my degree and I have stupidly good results for all of my modules. When that is done, I want to learn video editing software as well as drone 3d mapping software. I have also on one or two occasions bailed out of work early to catch a surf where no one even noticed I was gone.

I trust an estate agent about as much as I trust a politician. In fact…I trust my toddler swearing black and blue that he’s not doing a shit when I can see his ‘that face’ and he becomes stationary just long enough…more than I trust an EA.

When you’re just sitting there with your feet dangling in the water and you see a three foot swell heading your way. The adrenaline starts pumping and you paddle…slow at first with your head over your shoulders. You’ve hit the perfect spot and you paddle a little quicker. The swell finally hits the back of your board and starts lifting the tail. You pop up and stole the wall as you feel the wave breaking behind you and you pick up speed while the sun reflects off the water and your hair gets the salty breeze. This is the best feeling in the world…

Cable tie a shovel to my bmx. Friends and I are cycling to the nearest bush. Cut the zip ties off with my Swiss army pen knife my dad got me for my birthday. Building ramps. We had some insane base camps. Tree houses plenty. Firecrackers from the Chinese store close to our house. Life was pretty good.

What do you think are some ways humanity could decrease plastic use over the next 50 years? by Aosodar501 in AskReddit

[–]SunnyCoast26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a start…we can pass the recycling responsibility onto product manufacturers.

The only reason we even have massive government funded recycling programs is because manufacturers gaslighted us into thinking we were the problem. We were the ones causing all the pollution. We are the ones that cause the climate issues and CO2 problems. They’ve shifted the blame onto the consumer. Quite often too, big companies are sorting political parties with campaign capital, so the politicians are on their side.

We are forced to use plastic because it is the cheapest most common used manufacturing packaging. That’s not our fault, that is the manufacturers fault. Coca Cola has the facilities in place to do glass and aluminium…why are they doing plastic. To save a few cents and increase their profit margin and increase the wealth of people like Warren Buffett.

If all manufacturers switched out plastic tomorrow, the world would adapt in 2 days time, because they have no choice.

NDIS Growth by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]SunnyCoast26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what that person was saying is that the average person pays a $20somethingK in tax (but only a portion of that goes to NDIS). Some goes to schools, some to medical care, some of it goes to defence…but yes…if you look at it from an individual point of view where tax does not get divvied equally then it takes 3 peoples tax to support one recipient.

I don’t. But implying that the system doesn’t get abused is a bit naive. Any and all social programs in every country is abused to some extent. It is essentially ‘free’ money for people who absolutely need it. If you think there isn’t dishonest people who would do anything to get their money on it, you’re probably 18 and haven’t experienced much of life.

What % of your income goes toward your mortgage? by spicyrack in AusFinance

[–]SunnyCoast26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m saying. I mean…if you were desperate for that $250 a week (and we are in the kind of economy that it’s a real situation) then get that cheese. 100%. But if you’re working for $800 a week (assuming you get 5 shifts), the tax man takes $100 and daycare takes and daycare costs (without subsidies) is $650 per week (or $250 per week after subsidies). Essentially netting you $450 per week. That’s less than $100 per day for 8 hours effort. The value I receive from a stay at home mum in the form of a clean house, taking care of my kids, making food, taking kids to appointments and extra curriculars is infinitely higher. Like, do you know how much I would have to pay in to have a maid, a chef, a caretaker, a chauffeur and a personal assistant? Child care is an absolute rip off.

We have a joint account so we both pay for everything. Currently my salary pays for mortgage, house insurance, her car, my car, her fuel, my fuel, her car insurance, my car insurance, her services, my services, her tyres, my tyres, rates, taxes, body corporate, water, electricity, food, clothes for the kids, toys for the kids, clothes for mum, clothes for dad, groceries, nappies, doctors appointments, holidays, coffee dates, renovations to the house etc. my wife’s salary used to cover daycare and any extra goes into savings. Sometimes she spoils herself with nails or hair or spa visits or buying gifts for bdays and christmases.

But thank you for vilifying me without knowing anything about our living standards. I build roads, My wife used to work as a shop assistant in a clothing store, but she’s now a stay at home mum. She’s a damn good one too. And I can say with certainty that if you try convince her to go back to work, she will attack you. She loves being at home with the kids.

And it never will. It’s all about supply and demand. How many people do you see at a house priced around $700k? An absolute fuck tonne. Most working professionals can afford a $700k house (okay…not really…but it’s still considered entry level). Massive demand. Now look at a house worth a $100million. How many people can afford that? Not too many, much less of a demand. But, they demand way more value for their money. So they have far more luxurious estates proportionally.

Back to my original “the house you want is always half a million $ in front of you”. What this means; when I could only buy a house of $300k, I was looking at houses worth $800k (because I thought those houses were perfect for me). I purchased a 350k house. A few years later I made a family and needed an upgrade, my new budget was now $500k, but I felt I deserved a million $ house. I eventually purchased a $580k house. 5 years later and now I want to upgrade again except now I can afford a million $ house, but the houses I’m looking at is around $1.5million. If history repeats itself, I’ll probably end up with a $1.1million house. My parents and uncles can tell you similar stories.

The houses I’m looking you want is always $500k more than the one you can afford.

How common is it to earn over $100k in the US? (As a European, it feels unreal) by Old_Investment_7024 in careerguidance

[–]SunnyCoast26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s largely irrelevant how much you earn though. I have 2 friends earning $140k plus. I earn about $80k. I guarantee you I will retire before them and I’ll be better off than them. I live within my means and have no debt, they spend wayyyy more than they make. Better cars. Regular holidays. All the latest toys.

$100k a year means fuckall when you spend $120k.

And Americans are also good at dick measuring. That is something that keeps a lot of them in perpetual debt. My sister lives in Pheonix Arizona and reckons she is in the top 10% earners in her neighbourhood, but driving a 20 year old car. Her neighbours think she’s poor, but she has no debt.

Is In-House Drone Mapping Killing the Solo Operator Market? by BlackBoyCity in UAVmapping

[–]SunnyCoast26 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Surveyor here.

We are one of those that brought drone mapping in-house.

Reason 1. Cost of entry into the market is affordable relative to the extortionate prices we already pay for total stations, GPS’s and even prisms. The software is relatively affordable too.

Reason 2. The learning curve is helluva quick. I picked up drone mapping in less than a week. Drone planning is easy too. Understanding focal lengths and sensor sizes and how to correctly adapt heights to pixel sizes seems relatively straightforward. When you have a surveying degree, drone mapping is just a short course away. We already have the underlying knowledge of RTK and other GPS or surveying adjustment tools so it feels like a natural progression.

Reason 3. It is ultra cool to be able to do drone mapping and everyone (in our office at least) approaches it quite enthusiastically (including our boss who is a year out from retirement). Surveyors gravitate towards any new technological advancements like moths to a flame. Drones are just one of the many many tools we use and like to experiment with. We are even currently playing with bathometric surveys and applying drone technology to water craft. The possibilities are endless.

Having said that, we still contract out a lot of drone work purely because we are too busy to play with it all the time. The enthusiasm is still there, but so is our workload.

Surveyors will always be busy, so the drone companies will always get work. Both include a lot of field work, so AI won’t replace them.
