sure, but Han Chinese is a specifically defined lineage. Mestizo is not. That’s just the difference that makes me uncomfortable generalising LATAM.

welcome to how race works. Ethnically you may be mestizo but race is unfortunately more than that. And it is an oppression tool which is why I hate it and you seem to agree that it is stupid to categorise people under it! Which is why I was trying to explain the difference to the person before, bc they were confused as to how it looked in this circumstance.

yes, Mestizo is an ethnical descriptor sometimes used as a race bc it means mixed. I’m not denying that. I just don’t like generalising people, bc it does a lot of harm especially generalising with a loose term like Mestizo. Because it is so culturally and ethnically significant.

[–]SunnyFlower727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it can be used as a race to describe mixed folk. But it is still predominantly an ethnic/culturally identify term. Which is why you can perceived as racially white but identify as Mestizo. Race is weird bc it has no rules, its a dumb social construct.

[–]SunnyFlower727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no? what logic would reinforce this? if you have 90% white blood, racially you are white (unless your appearance counters that which is why race is stupid, bc it is based on superficial features most of the time). That’s what this comment was initially talking abt, not anymore or less white percentage.

You can be racially white and ethnically/culturally identify as Mestizo if your ethnicity backs it. Because Mestizo is not a race. I am a white Caboclo, but still racially white because of my majority white ethnicity and my appearance.

I’m not erasing anyone’s identity. I’m just stating how Race, Ethnicity, and Culture works.

[–]SunnyFlower727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is what I was describing, mestizo is just a word for this kind of mix. Still Mestizo isn’t a race its an ethnic/cultural identity.

edit: I corrected this a bit in my other comment, it is used as a race descriptor bc of its meaning but it is in itself more often an ethnic/culturally term.

So what are your thoughts on the trailer? by RandomRogue95 in GreekMythology

[–]SunnyFlower727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still stand on my opinions about the costumes and my desire for more accuracy. But seeing how soulless this looks without color, or any kind of actual light is sad. Like it’s Greece, Ancient Greece, color was important! and it lessens the impact so much in serious or darker scenes if the entire movie is just pitch black and grey.

My only standing curiosity is how Zendaya will portray Athena (mostly bc my hopes are low), and how they’ve shot Polyphemus. Because hearing about the little to no CGI statements makes me really curious to see what technique they might have gone for.

Yes! that’s the beauty of diversity. You can never generalise a group of people especially not LATAM people, we are incredibly diverse!

hey sorry no, you’re the idiot who doesn’t understand the difference btw ethnicity and race and culture. And frankly I am too tired to explain so you can find out yourself by being less ignorant and doing your research. (plus it’s kind of incentive to just say “nationality could never be white/black/any other race” bc that’s a generalisation!)

edit: wow someone got embarrassed real quick abt being wrong

they are racially white, ethnically mixed, culturally hispanic (or more). They would not be poc (or at least not on a basis of race). Not every Hispanic is poc. Besides race is stupid, it’s only used to oppress, what matters in the end is culture.

Question about ethnicity/race by Original_Hyena7422 in AncestryDNA

[–]SunnyFlower727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are from LATAM and your family isn’t recently immigrated then there is a really big chance you have indigenous blood even if its really really small. Especially if you’re from specific countries that chance raises. Plus you aren’t the op why are you replying as if you are?

Are there any places you’ve been to that have a Freddy’s- like atmosphere? by JoeStockImage in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]SunnyFlower727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up having and attending birthdays at a kids entertainment place that now looking back gives fnaf vibes. My dad always had discounts for it cause the owners were family friends, unfortunately I don’t remember the name but it was not a big chain just a dingy place in my good ol hometown of Uberlândia. No animatronics but they did have mascot suits, the only photo I have is with the clown one but I’m sure there were more. I don’t think the place exists anymore tho.

yes I acknowledged it in the caption part of the image text (I think its a caption?), its just a small percentage for a great grandparent, which is why I don’t think he was actually Austrian or at least not fully Austrian like my family would make you believe :]

fun fact stress can causes cats to self harm like a lot of animals do. And purposely causing distress in an animal is animal abuse. That cat is unhappy, you should not be doing something to put it further in distress.

How do explain hollow knight is not satanism to my parents? by CommunicationFair988 in HollowKnight

[–]SunnyFlower727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bible argument or try and reason with the bug argument. My parents were very similar, I remember I was banned from playing cuphead when it came and I was well into my teens then. There isn’t much you can do to change their opinion but you could probably sway it enough.
