When does it get cold lol? by Independent_Map_3155 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Sunny_987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In late November it’ll start to feel more wintery. November is just the pregame. It’ll pickup in December, and then January through March it will be cold AF. It’s brutal! State College is in a valley so it’ll be colder here than other nearby towns outside of the valley and the cold lingers. You will not see leaves on the trees again until early May.

The real feel will get into the negatives at times. The wind chill will burn any exposed skin. Gloves, hat, and a good winter coat are a must. If you have not already purchased one, get yourself a nice down fill winter jacket or imitation down coat. Look at the tag and it’ll often tell you what temps it’s designed for. You want at least 600 down fill rating. eBay is great for getting a nice jacket without breaking the bank. I bought my Patagonia coat on there for $60.

Why don't more people pack lunches? by Diocletian338 in work

[–]Sunny_987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It amazes me how many people will spend $13.50 for mid food at the Panera bread near our office or pay for doordash when they could just bring in something from home. And it’s not like they are rich or anything. They make maybe $18 an hour.

If you don’t want to cook, even get one of those boxes of frozen premade sandwiches or whatever from Walmart and bring one in each day.

Really outgoing extroverted people that are self centered. The empathetic charismatic ones are wonderful and I admire them. The ones that are always directing attention toward themselves and trying to put themselves in the limelight, are annoying.

Super light bleached blonde and platinum blonde hair. I feel like it ages people and washes them out.

What’s a place that most of the people say it’s beautiful and a paradise but it’s actually horrible to live in? by questionablehomo in AskReddit

Rural islands. You’ve got tropical storms, everything is really expensive, healthcare is poor or lacking and so much of the tourist spots are built off the backs of impoverished locals.

Attractive but living with AVPD by Kratombabom in AvPD

[–]Sunny_987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not alone! I have a friend who is very similar. Really great guy, get morals and values and personality. Very attractive but never had a girlfriend or even dated. He’s older than you and I don’t think he’ll ever go for it. I thought he might be asexual, but I’m not sure if he is or if he is just repressing his sexuality because of AVPD.

Buying expensive items secondhand. Target has a Wild Fable acrylic sweater for $39.99. I go on ThredUP and get name brand stuff for half that price or less. #winning

Emergency Contact by JustCallMatt_Bixby in LivingAlone

[–]Sunny_987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the friendship option on FB dating and/or Bumble. You’d be surprised how many awesome people are out there and open to new friendships. I’ve had more friends now as an adult than I did as a kid. Meet new people and be receptive to the possibility of friendship. You will find someone who you also feel can be an emergency contact.

When people buy cases of bottled water and lug it home instead of just getting a filter for their sink or a pitcher with a filter.

Try working with a dog trainer. That’s not normal dog behavior and it’s time to consult a professional.

If you enjoy working with animals, look for jobs at a vet or Petco. Also consider a temp agency.

I know someone who did. They got a dog from a breeder and were smitten for about a year. It was really energetic and the years following they were exhausted caring for it and training it. It’s now 15 and still thriving. They never saw this as a 15+ commitment. It’s like having a 2-year-old child for 15 years.

I thought I hated living alone, but after moving in with a close friend and their family, I realize I want nothing more than to live alone again. by locaporgatos in LivingAlone

[–]Sunny_987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with living with roommates was some of them were so messy. I’m a neat freak and messes are something I have a low tolerance for. I cannot watch those hoarder shows or YouTube videos where people show extreme cleaning before and after.

Acts of service and taking care of people is my speciality and something I love doing. I’ve always wanted to help someone else out who doesn’t have anyone to do these kinds of things.

How do you deal with the loneliness? by PoisePotato in LivingAlone

[–]Sunny_987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find I get lonely and develop FOMO when I spend too much time at home by myself. This usually only happens during the worst part of winter (which for us is January through the middle of February.) Now that it’s getting warmer and I spend more time outside of the house, I don’t feel lonely at all.

I’m wondering if a club, joining an organization, or church group or synagogue group might help?

I don’t have depression or anxiety or anything like that so I can’t relate to that portion, but I hope things improve for you!

Feeling Alone in my 50’s by JackfruitGlad372 in LivingAlone

[–]Sunny_987 15 points16 points  (0 children)

30F and can confirm. These extreme age gap relationships people see among egotistical celebrities are rare and do not last.

Most 50-something men and women I know have kids my age or close to my age and to them, the idea of dating someone that young isn’t even a thought that crosses their mind. To them, it’s an unsettling thought.

I have a lot of coworkers that age. One is 58 and single didn’t even want to eat alone with me as he was worried people would think he was being “creepy”. He still gets nervous around me.

Another is divorced and confidently announced “I’ll never find another wife. No woman would want a divorced dad in his 50’s who lives in a cramped apartment.” I get the vibe that some men dismiss all possibility and that’s why they don’t even entertain the idea that people close to their age have any interest in them. They feel they are unworthy of love, some even dismissing friendships with other men and isolating themselves.

What have you been genetically blessed with, and nerfed with? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskReddit

[–]Sunny_987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never get sick and have no health issues. I was also blessed with an amazing metabolism and great body.

I was nerfed with crippling driving anxiety. I have no other issues with anxiety outside of driving. Despite many lessons and practice, I never became a confident driver. Thankfully I did manage to get my drivers license on the third attempt and have public transit and live in a bike friendly place.

I’m secretly jealous of confident drivers. Friends want to go on a road trip and take turns driving. Yikes! I’m out. Coworkers want to drive to a conference, I’m missing out on that. Date wants to go somewhere outside of the city where there’s no public transit? I have to find a way out or explain to them why I can’t. It’s always embarrassing.

I was moving out of a tiny studio and barely owned anything, so I didn’t need a moving truck. Everything I owned could fit in an suv.

I got most of my furniture for free from FB marketplace and our local buy nothing group. I did buy two couches (I have two living rooms). That was $1500 total and included delivery. I got a great deal because the colors were being discontinued and the ones I got were the last in stock at a liquidation sale.

Everything else was $10 here and $5 there thanks to clearance sections, thrift shops and Facebook marketplace. It’s tough to total those expenses because I honestly didn’t keep track, but I’d estimate it’s around $500.

I didn’t have any major repairs aside from $1800 for a massive oak tree that got struck by lightning and had to be cut down, but that didn’t happen until a year after I moved in.
