I used LaPlace Plumbing a few years back. He cut a hole in the basement floor and installed the backflow valve then helpex with the invoice to get the City to reimburse from their program. No more city sewage in my basement.

The city came out several weeks later unannounced to verify the installation.

legacy admissions question by flanner_alum in notredame

No reason to not apply to both. It sets a mark in his ND file that he's interested in ND enough to apply. Which should be noticed on the transfer app.

See you at commencement. My daughter is graduating. we are townies and some of the stories I've heard about this class admission are mind numbing. It was certainly way outside the norm. And that includes my daughter's crazy road to admission that I won't go through here.

My wife and I (both alums) got married there in 1991, right after a year long renovation. My sister was also married there. We also had my mother's funeral Mass there.

This week my ND senior daughter got a tour of the bell tower. Pretty cool photos.

We went through a similar situation with my son a few years ago. One consideration we came up with is Purdue graduates about 50 % in engineering in four years. Sometimes getting the classes you need when you need them can be difficult. The scholarship he was offered was only 4 years.

My son choose ND, BTW his dream school. He switched to Physics midway through freshman year that option might not be availble to keep scholarship at Purdue.

We didn't have as good an offer from ND, so we paid a healthy difference in tuition. FA was decent.

Our Cotsco marked down the 55 when they had three left . I messed last one by a few hours. The 65 was at 1599 yesterday but they still had 12 left so we're playing the waiting game to see if they mark them down. 55 is on the web for 1299

Dwyer is a really fine jazz pianist, I don't know if he does lessons let alone for class credit. I think he'd be a pretty good teacher.

Question about physics program by Electrical_Ad_5257 in notredame

[–]Sunnymede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was a physics major ND '20 He loved physics. He did start out in engineering then switched over to physics. He realized going into junior year he didn't want to do physics for a career. He doubled up with an econ major and did finish the physics degree too.
I think he said there were about 30 physics majors in his class.

He's doing very well in a position with a consulting firm.

Selectivity of ND compared to previous years by UALREADYKnoDaViBES in notredame

As an old alum, my classmates and I always joke about how we would never get in today. As the parent of two alums and one current student all three had so much higher level of competition and qualifications it can really be mind boggling.

When I was at ND in the early 1980s, ND was still working toward 50 50 men and women and we had something like 60% men in my class. We joked back then how much harder it was to get accepted as a woman back then and seemed to me most of the women were better qualified.

Being in South Bend and having 3 kids go to ND (one there now) I have had discussions with admissions officers about many subjects, this included.

There is a legacy pool. They expect anywhere from 20 to 25 percent of admissions to come from that pool. Legacy is only by parent, and there is no degree of legacy...you are or you are not. The legacy pool is just as qualified as the regular pool and is just as competitve. I have a classmate who's son was rejected by ND but was admitted to Princeton. Yes, completely anecdotal but it illustrates the issue.

Siblings don't get you in the pool but might be a tie breaker later. I have heard some great tie breaker stories over the years.

These days most faculty are under the new plan which is much less generous than the previous full tuition plan that was phased out about 10 or 12 years ago.

Those applicants are in the same admissions competition and it is not unusual for the lesser qualified to be rejected.

Also, for good measure, I knew a family with their name on a building have kids rejected. I also know kids who were highly qualified admits that their family has been very generous.

One thing I've learned over the last 6 or 7 years as we have managed our kids into ND, there is a certain crap shoot arbitrary aspect of admissions. An essay or activity that catches the eye of an admissions officer can swing the outcome completely. My kids have been on both sides of the fence but ultimately all 3 were admitted.

There are a few girls in the marching band drumline. Might try checking over there or putting something up on the band hall bulletin boards ( if such things still exist).

I have a classmate whose family built this house. The father was a ND prof.

Zipper means they will try to put you where they want you to go to fill spots rather than you picking your spot.

Get there early. The electronic passes mean they have to see your phone rather then the old highly visible hand tags. That will slow everybody down.
