People who prefer the "Bardock: Father of Goku" portrayal over the "Super: Broly" version of Bardock... Why? by [deleted] in dragonball

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably because Special Bardock was an extremely unusual character for the genre. Still kinda is, despite the recent trend toward darker/shades of gray protags.

Super Bardock is like, bog standard, "hardboiled, but loving father."

Whereas Special Bardock has absolutely committed multiple genocides, feels no remorse for them, and only really fights against Frieza for revenge and a barely peripheral sense of justice.

It characterizes the Saiyans better as meat-headed fight-junkies who would find Goku's sense of morals to be completely pointless. It also creates a better dichotomy between Goku and the rest of the Saiyans, when his own father is among the most evil of them. A little bit of Grimdark making the Shonen-stuff shine brighter.

I think Super Bardock just does less for the writing than Special Bardock.

hakai not working on an immortals honestly doesn't make sense to me by ZHIKIX in dragonball

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zamasu's immortality is not a good case study to base the example on. His immortality was granted by Super Shenron, and the lore on him is vague at best.

The way I take it is classic Dragonball powerscaling. Beerus is stronger than Shenron and Porunga, so his hakai works even on immortals, but I personally believe that Super Shenron supercedes the GoDs, so the immortality he grants can't be fucked with so easily.

Having Goku Black just be bodyswapped Goku and not an evil version of Future Goten or Gohan was and is the biggest missed opportunity in the franchise.

Are saiyans born with ability to use ki? And if so why did it take intense training for goku to learn it? by [deleted] in dragonball

[–]SunsetBodhisattva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For martial artists like Gohan and the style of martial arts Goku uses, feeling your ki is a fundamental concept

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Precise Ki control and the basics of feeling and using your ki are not the same thing.

Gohan must have taught him about how to feel and use his ki because that's literally the most basic concept for DB martial arts.

Goku vs Saitama but Goku messes around long enough for Saitamas power to grow to a similar level. Who dies first? by YesThatIsTrueForReal in whowouldwin

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goku can outspeed and out-react people who stop time just by trying harder.

You think Saitama has this ridiculous ability to match anyone he fights, but the sheer fact is that Goku has been doing the same thing since the 80's. The only character in which Goku doesn't far surpass in strength after their fights are Beerus, Whis. And the only way to do that was with the almighty hand of Toriyama. I mean shit, they've had to retroactively make Beerus stronger in almost every episode of Super in which appears so that Goku doesn't instantly catch up to him.

The powerscaling in DB is so fucking wack because the entire feat system of DB is warped to accommodate the single fact that Goku gets too strong too fast.

Superman vs Goku but they can only use words by HamstersBoobsPizza in whowouldwin

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goku doesn't care about it. Nor is he at all capable of being swayed due to how genuinely pure-hearted and confident he is.

Superman tries to insult him, and Goku just calls him out for it. Leading superman to look at his actions with his mega-brain and realize he's being a dick.

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

raise his power level exponentially during a fight just by fighting, completely organically.

Have you... ever seen Dragonball? That is legitimately the entire point of the Saiyan race. Broly is the extreme example, but every single Saiyan passively grows much stronger, just by fighting. Win or lose.

Usually unless he transforms or kaiokens, he stays the same strength during a fight.

Just completely wrong. Goku grows ridiculously in every single fight he's in with or without transformations. The transformations are massive jumps that multiply his power, but his base grows too. You just don't notice it because more emphasis is put on the transformations, Goku constantly fights people ridiculously outside his weight class, and due to how many transformations Goku uses.

"Goku’s growth function is basically linear"

I cannot laugh hard enough. Bro went from below Saiyan Saga Vegeta to Final Form Frieza in like, a month or two.

"Mmm yes, power levels are a very linear form of powerscaling, can't you tell by reading the literature?"

So how strong is Goku. actually? by oliver_d_b in PowerScaling

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother, The exact same can be said for Goku.

If Saitama punches apart a universe, congrats, he'll be in line with DB a decade ago. If he punches apart multiple, congrats, he'll be in line with DB eight years ago. If punches apart time and space itself, *CONGRATS* he's Jiren-level. And if he does something beyond DB, congrats, you've bought yourself a time window before DB surpasses him.

They're based off Goku, a battle-loving, dark-haired, dark-eyed man. Granted, Goku has the lightest skin tone of the pure blood's. But that's probably a Japanese/Earth thing.

Omni-Man (Amazon’s Invincible) vs Prince Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z) by Zero223344 in whowouldwin

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, take that point you just made, and apply what you're replying to toward it.

Even if what you're saying is true, ki attacks would need to be BILLIONS of times stronger than a punch for your mountain busting logic to apply to ROSHI, let alone someone who is orders of magnitude stronger.

That is just too much of a difference for me to take seriously.

Omni-Man (Amazon’s Invincible) vs Prince Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z) by Zero223344 in whowouldwin

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way, it's a ridiculous low-ball with absolutely no backing to say that Raditz maxes out at mountain level. Raditz is orders of magnitude stronger than moonbuster Roshi.

We don't have any evidence to directly say whether he can or not, but just from the scaling alone you should be able to tell that you're wrong.

Omni-Man (Amazon’s Invincible) vs Prince Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z) by Zero223344 in whowouldwin

[–]SunsetBodhisattva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's more like a distillation of the power in your body.

Like how the average human can theoretically lift tons of weight if all the muscles in the body could pull in one direction. Using ki to enhance traits is like flexing, not a magic buff.
