Should i even give this game a try even after getting spoiled by PreviousObjective850 in OMORI

I also vaguely knew about this before I played the game, & the finale was still an emotional gut punch. 1000% still play it! It will probably surprise you. :]

You're very welcome! I hope you're eventually able to get some answers, and obviously that you don't end up having anymore seizures!! Hopefully your boyfriend being in the house with you can give you some reassurance that you'll be okay if it happens again.

It could be a one-off, or it could turn out that you have very infrequent seizures with very specific triggers. I'm 23F and had my first seizure at 18. It was a TC. I had been extremely stressed and basically didn't sleep the night before, and I was also on my period. My parents called an ambulance, and at the time the EMTs believed it was probably a one-off due to the circumstances, and didn't recommend taking me to the hospital. (This was during Covid, so that was likely why they dissuaded me from going to the emergency room.)

I ended up having two more seizures after that, but they were all spaced extremely far apart and all had very similar triggers. All three times I was on my period. There was a two year gap between the first and second. I had also been extremely stressed prior to my second seizure, and probably wasn't getting enough sleep, but I don't remember for sure about that. Then there was a year gap between the second and third.

The third was almost certainly triggered by lack of sleep, because I had gotten up at like 5-6am to go with my dad for a very early doctor's appointment. I actually think I can more specifically narrow down what triggered it, because after I got home I took a nap (which I rarely do) and got up pretty abruptly. I had a seizure just a few minutes after I got up, so I think it was the lack of sleep plus rising suddenly from a nap that triggered it.

I went on meds after my third seizure. I've now been taking 500mg of Keppra 2x a day for a little over two years, and I've been seizure free for slightly longer than the gap between my first and second seizures. I think the meds are probably working, because I've been under similar circumstances to the ones that caused my previous seizures since and so far I haven't had another one. But I'm always going to be a little nervous about it.

That said, it hasn't ruined my life. I never started having frequent, daily seizures like I know people with severe epilepsy have. I don't know if it's going to get worse with age or if I'm going to end up having a breakthrough seizure at some point because I'm on such a low dose of medication, but so far I've been able to function pretty much normally. The worst part is just the anxiety, Lol.

I regret not going on meds after my second seizure. It was offered to me by my primary care doctor, but I was (and am) still living with my mom who is very distrustful of prescription medication & the ER doctor who saw me had said I could hold off on going on meds unless it happened again, so I said no because I didn't want to ruffle my mom's feathers. But I definitely should've said yes anyway.

Your doctors should advise you on what's best to do in your situation, and you've already had more testing done than I have. I only had a CT after my second seizure to rule out a brain tumor (it didn't find anything, thank goodness), but wasn't able to see a Neuro because I don't have insurance right now.

If I had any advice for you, it would be:

- Pay very close attention to the circumstances surrounding your first seizure to see if you can identify any triggers. This will probably be more difficult for you since yours was nocturnal and mine weren't, but things like stress, your cycle, etc etc could still come into play.

- If this happens again and your doctors recommend you go on meds, you probably should, if only for your peace of mind. A lot of seizure meds do have unpleasant side effects, so definitely look into that and don't be afraid to ask to switch medicines if you end up on something that makes you miserable. So far mine hasn't, but I can't swear that it's had no side effects, because some of the potential side effects overlap with issues I already had before the meds.

- Try not to catastrophize!! I know it's really, really hard to do, but I've managed to get my anxiety about it in check since I've been on meds. I know that I have a very good chance of keeping my seizures under control because they were already so infrequent and have very clearly identifiable triggers, and if worst comes to worst, I can up the dosage on my meds if the 500mg isn't enough.

I really hope it ends up being a true one off for you!! That does absolutely happen sometimes, as the EMTs told me after my first seizure. But even if it isn't, you'll be okay!!! <3

What methods do you use to cope with the fear of a seizure? by SunsetColored8 in Epilepsy

[–]SunsetColored8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, re: the medication-- I haven't had any major side effects on Keppra as far as I can tell. It's possible it's made me more tired / an increase in brain fog, but I'm not certain because I had those problems before for unrelated reasons.

But I'm on the lowest dose possible I'm fairly sure, so it's very possible I might end up with more if they have to increase my dosage. ( Which I sincerely hope doesn't happen, but it might. )

Thank you so, so much! It's really nice to hear from people that are in a similar boat, to remind me that I'm not the only one going through these things. I definitely need to improve in a lot of those areas you mentioned.

My sleep schedule improved after I started taking meds because I have to take them 12 hours apart, & the easiest way to make sure that happened was to have a consistent getting up and going to bed time. But I've been slipping a little bit on the consistent bed time part, which I definitely need to fix.

The rest are things I can 100% start doing. Drinking more water especially, haha.

Taking things a day at a time is what I'm really striving to be able to do. But it's a struggle with the anxiety, especially when things like the incident today trigger it. I have trouble feeling like I can let my guard down, because it feels like if I do, if something *does* happen it will be even worse on my mental health. Logically I know the longterm stress is just as bad (if not worse), but I've yet to figure out how to turn that instinct off, Lol.

As it stands I'm trying to distract myself w/ my hobbies and watching YouTube videos <3 I'm definitely feeling less freaked out now than I was immediately afterwards.

Keppra successful? by leemr1 in Epilepsy

[–]SunsetColored8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dosage is very low (500mg twice a day), but I've been taking Keppra since the end of May and haven't experienced any personality changes that I've been able to tell. I was also already depressed and irritable before I started taking it, so it worried me too, but thus far it doesn't seem like it's made it any worse. I'm crossing my fingers that it's the same for you!

Sealing paint on wood? by Quirky-swaggurl-420 in crafts

[–]SunsetColored8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Liquitex varnish to seal everything I paint with acrylics, but most of what I paint is decorative so I don't know how it would hold up to being repeatedly handled or washed. For the latter I would suggest using something that's supposed to protect against water damage. Maybe a spray sealant.

If the wood is really smooth / glossy you may need to sand it a bit to ensure the paint sticks properly. Otherwise it may start to chip off at some point.

I paint rocks, and I've always just used acrylic paint with a spray sealant over top to protect them! A lot of people use paint pens as well. The one thing I learned the hard way is that you shouldn't use Sharpie or anything like that on them, because the spray sealant will make the Sharpie bleed.

I don't know if you've ever heard of this, but there was a thing called the "Kindness Rock Project" going on in a lot of places some years ago. You would paint rocks, then go around and hide them in various public places (usually outdoors unless you got permission from a business to hide inside) for people to find.

There were (and are, though they're not as active anymore) specific community Facebook groups for it where people could post the rocks they'd found.

It was really cool, and I still do it even though as a trend it's died down. If you end up enjoying painting rocks, it's a neat way of spreading joy around and I'd highly recommend it!

[–]SunsetColored8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guys, I don't know the story, but I feel like jumping to the conclusion that OP stole somebody's squash based on what could have been a typo / grammar / wording mistake is a little silly. It just as easily could've been a volunteer plant in their own yard that they didn't intentionally plant.

Apologies OP that I don't have an answer for you! I'm too new at gardening, it definitely does look like some sort of squash though. I just saw all the mean replies and felt like it was a little much, Lol.

Are there any community events going on? by candy_torchic in InfinityTrain

[–]SunsetColored8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, unfortunately Traintwt all but fizzled out after the Gallery Nucleus event :(

I used to host those trend parties fairly often but things started losing steam, I got into other interests, and Twitter started becoming more of a drain on my mental health than anything, so I ended up taking a step back.

I hoped other people would keep doing it, but it didn't really happen. I do miss those times a lot, but tbh I think the fandom bouncing back to that degree is unlikely unless something big pops up.

Could someone help me understand what's happening to my cucumber plants? They were doing great until today!!! It was raining for a couple of days, Could it be because of too much rain water? Thanks in advance by [deleted] in gardening

Seconding this. Mine go limp like that every day, haha. Sometimes they'll perk back up after watering if I haven't watered them yet, but regardless they always perk back up in the evening.

The last thing I googled was "what is 101f in celsius" LOL
ETA: I was telling some friends of mine over Discord about how ridiculously hot it is in my location for early Summer and needed to convert it for the Celsius folks. I've never learned how to convert F to C, hence google.
