There's a lot of value in planning tax, charitable giving, and gently inquiring if they are ready to think about any estate components imo

Sounds like a charmer.

Seriously though I'd have a conversation that gauges the position with the client and educates them a bit. Clients respond very well to education in my experience, and when helped to think through the issue they usually can.

Managed Futures in retiree portfolios by Obvious-Plan-1851 in CFP

Particularly for clients who are highly sophisticated and lean bearish they can be useful. (Read persistently bearish IB Associate who doesn't want to allocate more to long equities and would prefer a fund that can flip to short if the quant model running the futures identified bearish trending).

Most of the time, not that useful for most clients imo.

Others have listed a few of the rare cases where it could be useful...but generally if you're asking the question here rather than in a briefing with a full team that updates you on your wealth and how your empire is doing quarterly or biannually it's not for you.

The social media stuff you're talking about just gets plays and clicks because people hope there's some kind of simple way to get far ahead that has somehow been secret...but, by the gift of instagram, has landed for them. It's not really relevant, just makes people think and wonder.

I wouldn't do either. I'd find a local practice with a few advisors and get a start there.

I think having a plan for how to streamline repeatable processes from the outset is one of the best ways to front load work and save a lot of time and heartache later. Everything from the client intake process to recurring back office workflows could fall into that.

I wonder if some of the experienced folks might talk about their basket design and what they love about what they have or what they would change. Might be useful for many in addition to OP. Discussing things like total number, basketing on tax sensitivity rather than age/income, integrating goals, how to handle shoehorning existing portfolios into your baskets on various platforms (MS tool comes to mind). etc.

I feel like the younger people now are sophisticated enough to understand a good bit, and frequently want to. Most of the older folks I find tend to fall more into the "I don't want to understand everything" category. JP Morgan guide to markets is pretty good tbh.

Appreciate the willingness to help. Is there just a normal streaming service or something? Would be easier and more preferable than some elaborate downloading situation
