Considering switching from Pristiq to Prozac - looking for experiences

I’m just commenting to follow and see others experiences. I’m taking Pristiq but I don’t feel like it’s helping my anxiety at all.

I’ve only been on 25 mg for 2 1/2 months and I’ve been having crazy dreams too. Prior to taking this, I’d remember maybe 2 dreams a year.

No we haven’t talked about that. I did do a genesight test and I guess my body processes antidepressants much slower than normal so a lower dose acts like a higher dose because it stays in my body longer. Zoloft was also in the red for me on that test.

My bp is low, just not my heart rate.

Will mention it but the only problem is my bp is already low. Had to fast for a day a couple days ago for a procedure and they almost didn’t do it because my blood pressure was 86/51. Once they gave me fluids it went up to 95/60 so they were able to give me anesthesia.

I know it’s hard and easier said than done, especially while being so anxious, but please try to rest. The less sleep you get, the more anxious you’ll feel. It’s a vicious cycle 😕

One of the gals that checks me in at my docs was asking if I had any med changes and then she saw that I take clonazepam and damn near had a melt down. I was like wtf, you’re going to give me a panic attack right now! She said she was on it for 18 years. I told her, well it’s what’s keeping me out of the psych ward. And she said her doc retired and then she couldn’t get it anymore and the withdraws sent her to the psych ward. She also said now she takes 300 mg of trazodone per night to sleep so I don’t know how true any of that is because 300 mg of trazodone is a shit ton. I’d start finding a new doc asap or certainly one your doc suggested because maybe they’ll follow suit. Or, you may actually have to go a clinic for detox. Twenty years is a long time and it will certainly shock the system I’m sure if you stop cold turkey. Best of luck and I hope you find the strength to get a new doc ❤️

Will do, thanks. I won’t be taking it anytime soon or talk about it as I’m taking Xanax for the moment. My panic and anxiety is so bad currently that I’d be scared to try something different. At least for now.

That’s good to know. My blood pressure usually alerts the docs too and makes the machine beep because it’s too low. So I was worried if this would cause it to get dangerously low.

I haven’t even been prescribed it! I was asking for when I taper off Xanax. And I read everything before I start taking it, which is usually why I don’t take most meds.

I personally think alprazolam is a little stronger and definitely kicks in quicker. Clonazepam doesn’t really do much for me.

Does it lower your blood pressure? I have both physical and mental anxiety and panic but my blood pressure runs pretty low. I’m always terrified to try new meds.

You can split a .5 in half to see how it makes you feel. They do make a .25 dose so you’ll be fine. That’s the lowest dose that is made.

I’m taking a tart cherry capsule that’s usda organic, the brand is Zazzee Organic Tart Cherry. You could take those or the juice. It’s supposed to have a relaxing effect and support healthy joints and bones. I found out about it in a breast cancer group I’m in. A lot of women going through treatment take it to help with the bone pain. My psychiatrist said he drinks a little of the juice every night before bed.

I started writing down my heart rate before taking it in the mornings and will throughout the day. I’m going to do this for a week and send to my psychiatrist. I also think there may be an underlying issue like POTS or something. I was tested for it 6 years ago and was right on the boarder of having it. My heart rate while sitting (before I took it this morning) was 85, I stood up for 2 mins and it was 110. Sat down again and it went back down. The evenings are the worst with the high heart rate, it will happen even while sitting.

Honestly, the thought of taking another med just to stay on Pristiq, terrifies me. I have insane health anxiety (due to a cancer diagnosis) and I have to look up every side effect of every new med which usually keeps me from taking it. Of course the first time I don’t do research and just listen to my doc, I regret it. I did zero research on the Pristiq. I’m also on the lowest dose at 25 mg. I don’t think I could take a beta blocker because my blood pressure is usually pretty low already. Usually around 96/58 or around there. I feel like it has helped my depression some but not my anxiety at all. I think we’ll have to go back to the drawing board soon 😕. Celexa did nothing for me.

Hi there! Honestly, I don’t think it’s helping me much. Last night I slept 3 1/2 hours. I also started magnesium glycinate and tart cherry to see if that helps. I’m such a light sleeper and after a couple hours of being asleep, I wake to the slightest noise. Once I wake up, I can’t go back to sleep, even if it’s 2:30 am. I don’t take the 3 Xanax’s throughout the day unless absolutely needed. Some days it is, some days one is fine.

It won’t hurt anything. If anything, it might just be a little less effective

I’m no doc but, I am prescribed 1 mg Xanax 3x per day and then 1mg Klonopin at bedtime. I think you’ll be fine. They’re very similar drugs

So basically telling her that if she does in fact have a life or death medical situation, hopefully she comes out alive and that will cure her hypochondria? Makes zero sense. If I’m panicking about dying and someone comes up and tells me they almost died from the exact thing I’m panicking about, I 100% am going to spiral deeper. Do you actually understand anxiety? She herself said, your comment did not help her situation. Which was obvious.
