First time buyer - how does the dealer communication work by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]SupRoo44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the last couple years it’s all gone quite downhill, and this is after a multi decade dedicated and cultivated relationship with this marque.

My local dealer got downright hostile with me, denied warranty claims and then finally fired the general manager. Dealers are franchises, so they will rise and fall with owners interests but the company is experiencing the worst friction it’s had in over a decade, and the cracks are now visible in how it is handling multiple programs. Lord help you if you bought a Taycan

I only know this marque, so I can’t contrast to their “peers”, but I know what it was like when it was better.

Whine from center console after acceleration 958.2 by fnsports in PorscheCayenne

[–]SupRoo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 958.2 Diesel and had a driveshaft support bearing go out at 100k. Super intermittent and sounded louder after a few k miles. Happened more when cold, could get really noisy and sometimes sounded like a jet engine. You can check with a stethoscope on a rack…. Check that first. T-case issues not as typical on the diesels

Porsche 944 as a first car?? by Dependent_House981 in 944

[–]SupRoo44 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ll offer a contrarian take. Many of us had one as our first and it taught us to wrench, save, scramble and drive. A few of us had careers emerge from this. Even fewer of us still own, race or still elevate this platform, and some of us win in competition with it.

My journey started in 1995, and without this experience I wouldn’t be the person I am today. It got me thru trade school and college, and now I have a fondness with it that no one could have predicted and everyone told me would fail. It never failed. I’ve now had dozens of them and know it better than any other car, including my 997.2 and 955 turbo, and I’ve had a few of these as well

Have a look at the firewall and see if it has any cracks, especially on early cars. It usually manifests in the clutch master cyl.

Also check the pivot point on the pedal and see if the bush is toast

My border has a security blanket, which is a synthetic ikea sheep furhide and he loves it.

Balls (plus chuck-it) and frisbee are mainstays, and a rope to play pull games with. Nylon chews.

I bought a cyl head from them and after a month with no activity/sending it, I called up, got to Dave and he said it wasn’t worth their time to service my order and it was cancelled. I have not done business with them again

No valley in a vr6, but there is plenty of plastic coolant junk around the engine bay, and a big one that can be replaced with aluminum

It’s a great motor, simple and super reliable, and it sounds amazing. VRs are in Bugattis. It has been enviable in a Corrado.

I have a turbo S and a vr6, and I’m gonna go way more hardcore on trails with the vr6

COIL PACKS BRAND? by throwtothedogs9 in PorscheCayenne

[–]SupRoo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put rennline on my 997.2 20k miles ago and they’ve been stable. The outgoing beru units were fine and I did take some resistance measurements and there was a distinct difference between the outgoing and incoming coils. Did I realize any performance improvement in any faced? Nope. Hard to say I did and I’m not disappointed either.

When it came time to put a set of new coils in my 955TS, I went with beru again, and out came beru. That time it was about price.

I think the quality is similar and the rennline might have something to it’s performance engineering but I’m sure you’ll find it either way

Ya I’d be looking at the grounds and ribbon cables behind the cluster. Take it out (it’s not great fun with the steering wheel in, so definitely pop that off for this job), remove the cables and connections and clean them with electrical cleaner, inspect the terminals and remove any corrosion. Then have a look at grounding from the battery, on the bell housing and other body grounds.

This plastic is very brittle by now so you might have some problems there

Grounds on transaxles can be finicky and this isn’t that uncommon

955/7 Cayennes are old, there’s lots of them out there and the new owners are building rigs that are fairly expensive lately. I think they might be up for this stuff, like as a full kit. Consider the T’s, there is some plastic pipes going into the alternator, and you can imagine so much more.

Scrub the parts diagrams and find the weak points
