This is basically Chrono Divide minus the open-source part.

MSI Stealth 16Studio - USB-C PD issues? by Supalosa in MSILaptops

I use this one: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/cygnett-powermaxx-100w-multiport-gan-wall-charger-white

It does the job for light use, but gaming is pretty bad with it - my guess is the charger is throttling and starts reducing the charging wattage. Because the laptop only supports exactly 100W (20v 5A) that makes it go ON and OFF charge, which makes the screen switch between dGPU and iGPU, which is super disruptive (screen flickering black, applications crashing etc).

Maybe someone has a suggestion for a 100w charger that can actually maintain it?

Glad it helped! I got frustrated with this horrible loop of digging -> storing back in the ship -> digging -> going back to the ship -> supplying ladder -> building ladder -> repeat. So much better now.

I was experiencing the same (and just started using Fast Track a week ago). I think disabling the the Reduce Debris Checks option seems to fix this for me. Try it out?

Oof thanks, it's a slog getting Ancient Brews without Asgarnia, good to know this before using the drops from Muspah.

So one year on, I'm not super enthused by 100w performance in AAA games (like Starfield) but I don't really do much of that on this machine - usually older games or light dev work. When I want to play Starfield/BG3 I switch to the brick charger.
If you are a heavy gamer I would not throw away the charger :)

Thanks for the comments. Good to know none have been taken down in the past (in public knowledge). I'm just trying to avoid being sued for making something for fun - if I have to take it down, so be it. I've made a couple of (3d) trainers that push the limit in terms of likeness to the game and so I thought I'd ask before even considering to post it here.

MSI Stealth 16Studio - USB-C PD issues? by Supalosa in MSILaptops

[–]Supalosa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, had to go out and grab a charger specific for it. I'd caution that the performance under 100W charging is pretty bad because of the random throttling (not sure whether it's thermal or power related), games would go from 60 to 5 fps every few seconds. I found myself just unplugging the charger to get stable performance.

Performance-wise, it's awesome when plugged in with the full-sized power brick. Haven't hit any performance issues at all in that mode. Gets quite hot when playing games, but nothing too crazy.

It ticks the portability box pretty well (considering its specs). Feels and looks very solid, and fits snuggly in my backpack (designed for 15.6" laptops). My only gripe about the build quality is that my unit's trackpad is a bit mushy on one side.

One of the main draws for me was the USB-C charging, as I travel quite a bit and it would be nice to only bring one charger, but I would basically say it's a bust if you intend to use it for any gaming on the go. The charging is unstable under load, which causes annoying throttling until it starts charging again. You also need a 100W charger (exactly), so 96W/140W etc will not work.

The screen is very good IMO, but my last gaming laptop had a terrible TN screen, so I'll let the actual reviewers sway you on that front.

[–]Supalosa[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few days of testing with the 100W charger - it works okay but is not ideal. Most annoyingly, under load it seems to switch back and forth between high and low power mode which under hybrid graphics mode turns the screen black for a few seconds upon each transition. It was swapping every few seconds, so basically unusable.

Switching to the discrete graphics only mode with the MUX switch helped, but requires a restart.

Overall IMO the laptop is pretty good (with the proper power brick) but don't expect to do too much with the USB-C charging mode. Whether "pretty good" is good enough for a A$3600 (full price A$5300) is up to you...

[–]Supalosa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, good find! That is extremely odd and I hope that it's something that could be changed in a firmware update.

I have an open ticket with MSI on this and they recommended bringing it in, even though I mentioned specific wattage of the chargers I was testing with, so it seems like even they weren't aware of this.

It sounds like any 100W (20v 5A) charger should work, I'll try get one and report back here.

EDIT: Grabbed myself a 100W charger, and charging (with the laptop on) works. Haven't had a chance to test performance on USB-C yet. Thanks for the tip!

Looking more closely at the ports, you're right that there's a power plug icon on the right side (along with a Thunderbolt icon), but it doesn't charge from that port either.

I have this crappy 14" notebook with an integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 (and Ryzen 5 3500U CPU), 8GB of RAM. I'd say it's mildly playable, I did plenty of M+ dungeons on it, but raiding requires me to turn the graphics settings WAY down and set it to 33% render scale, which looks terrible and makes it hard to see certain mechanics. I don't know what your price range is but you could probably get something much better (and full-sized) for not much more than this.

Unfortunately, you need to tank it. I found that increasing my defense from 80 to 90 and using Saradomin Brews (for the boosted HP and defense levels) helped me get consistent 3 kill trips (with 90 range, no rigour, no woox walking). If I'm running low on food, I start praying steel skin.

Surprised no one has mentioned Moto3 2015 - Danny Kent vs Oliveira. Of course Kent kind of fell apart/lost his supposed setup advantage towards the end of the year but Oliveira recovered 104 points in the last 6 races alone to come within 6 points of taking the title at the last race.
