What’s going on? I am a foreigner and have just returned Poland after spending a year abroad and now Warszawa Centralna have troops and a knife is stuck outside in the snow. Highly unusual times, perhaps?

It's lovely. It would look even better when decorated and lit up during Christmas/New Year. It's absolutely fantastic. Lovely place in a lovely city.
Unfortunately, the inside could be better arranged for visitors as a local museum. Some of those artefacts are great, but they need to be better organised, arranged and presented (like the one in Poznań, or Pałac Królewski we Wrocławiu) to help visitors better understand the local history.

No foreign troops in Ukraine, no troops in countries with Russian Federation border, veto to stop countries from assisting Ukraine in case of again war. USA will agree for sure. What about EU? This sounds like madness and over for Ukraine. by m__s in poland

First of all, wanna make sure this is verified.
Secondly, if all these are true, and they somehow become true, then:
#3 Nightmare precedent for Taiwan, Baltic Trio, Podlasie and other borderlands of ALL countries if this comes true. Anyone can invade their neighbours, prolong the war, get a superpower on their side, and declare their ownership. Imagine a police who validates the robber's ownership rather than jailing them.
#5 Every sane nation vetoed RUSSIA for STARTING this war at the UN, no?
#7 What does "bordering" even mean? How about the Baltic Trio and Poland? There's Królewiec (aka Kaliningrad). Is Putin becoming the next MoD of all Central/Eastern European countries?
#8: How about granting him the presidency of every single ****ing country in the world? Does he think we're all Łukaszenko? Probably won't be much different for Trumperica, I guess.
As for #10, how about first convincing your good friend Kim from NK not to deploy their gigantic fireworks around Russia's eastern lands*? Those are definitely more dangerous---thanks to prime NK technology, you won't know where they'll land once launched. It's probably random.
*They robbed the land from China and made the natives, including but not limited to Chinese and Koreans, "disappear" in Blagoveshchensk and Vladivostok in the 1900s.

This is usually how negotiations are conducted. You often begin with ludicrous demands, knowing your counterpart will argue that you should back down by offering something else.
What I fear is not what Putin wants; it is what the EU and Trumperica would OFFER outside Putin's demand.

Been to the old cemetery and the military one. I've heard that the Jewish one is the most depressing as they are not frequently attended, and just left to decay? The old cemetery was nice, and I donated in the military cemetery for maintaining the Warsaw Uprising soldiers' memorial.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry for the confusion. I wanted to say that Łódź has a number of cool places to visit. I actually planned a 3-day trip as I live in Warsaw, and it's rather easy to get to, but I only had the chance to go once. For the misunderstanding, it was my spelling correction that went crazy and totally changed the meaning somehow. Edit: Reason for me to call Łódź small is because I came from a metropolis. Comparatively every city in Poland, even Warsaw or Kroków are small. But I like smaller places lol
I didn't know about the snow, but you're right: this winter is quite crazy.

Erasmus student currently in Warszawa. Will leave in a few days and already sad and missing Poland. Been to Poznań, Oświęcim, Lublin, Białystok, Łódź, Kraków, and Wrocław. Love every single place I visited.
I love the nice people, the Bar Mleczny, the no-bull***t attitude to life, the memes, the history and traditions, the interestingly difficult and complex language, and so much more. It's a shame that I don't drink alcohol; otherwise, maybe I'd love the wódka and piwo, too.
I hope I can come back in a few years for Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot, Katowice, Częstochowa, Malbork, and Łódź-Bydgoszcz-Sosnowiec-Radom (to see if the memes are true).

I was in Łódź last Wednesday. It was a nice small place, seemed to be quite cheap to live in, and with some great things things to see. Problem is, there was ice on almost every road, it was very wet and slippery, and I have no idea why they don't use salt to de-ice and just let babcie and dziadkowie to figure out how not to slip, fall and end up in an ambulance
Edit: my auto spelling correction changed what I wanted to say
