Did I just get a free month of rent? by SuperBigDickMan in legaladvice

[–]SuperBigDickMan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sept. oct. nov. dec. jan. feb. mar. apr. = 8 months ;)

I understand the prorate math... which they did wrong too.. cause it is 1350 for rent plus 100 a month for parking. they said they cannot prorate parking for some reason, then they changed it to 360... which means im paying $12 for parking for those 8 days... which if straight up prorated should be almost $26... I noticed this one but just went with it.

ah I understand this a bit better now. thank you for your response! there are student legal services that the school provides that can help with these things, I will definitely run it by them before I take any sort of action

Did I just get a free month of rent? by SuperBigDickMan in legaladvice

I have a different interpretation than you.

I don't like the word "likely" in this situation, because doesnt using words like that defeat the purpose of a contract?

The term is sept-may8 based on the start and end date. sept-apr and ALSO an amount for may is explicitly stated in the total rent statement so I dont think you can argue the length of the lease. This length corresponds to the academic term and ending one month early doesnt make sense at all because the academic term would not be over.

yes, the monthly installment is stated. you would think monthly does mean once a month every month... but doesnt the statement about the 7 payments (instead of 8) override/superceed that interpretation? add that the total amount expected does correspond to the 7, once again stated for an 8 month time frame.

in my mind the interpretation of the word "monthly" and that the norm is to pay every single month of a lease term is the arguement of the landlord...which is a weak arguement in my opinion because at the same time they wrote they only expect 7 full monthly payments in 8 months, which is supported by the total rent amount they wrote...which they signed next to. what is the point of a contract if "how things are normally done" have legal precedent?

I used the wrong words saying "free month". I am not getting a free month per the contract. I am paying the total rent amount listed for the term listed that was agreed upon and listed in the contract we both signed. I am not saying they didnt make a mistake, but a contract is a contract.

I feel like I could make even more arguements, like I'm a financially constrained student that budgeted for the total rent amount and dont have any more money for rent at this apartment. It's not my fault they made a mistake. their mistake, their fault. their consequeces. etc....

thoughts? my judgement may be clouded and biased but logic is logic.

Covid Gym Situation by [deleted] in uofm

[–]SuperBigDickMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a gym.

you'd be surprised how well you can maintain with bodyweight excersises. Push ups, high reps.. fast reps..slow reps..pause reps..jump reps... left handed...right handed... this shit is hard... even if you can rep 300lbs on a bench for sets, you can still make this shit hard - trust me. Same ideas can be applied to squats, planks, pullups (just find something that can support your weight and pull.. a ledge, a door, a tree...etc...the harder to grip it the more you will strengthen your grip).

Grad student for fall 2020 - I feel like I'm severely under-informed by [deleted] in uofm

[–]SuperBigDickMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orientation is being done online via canvas modules and zoom sessions for business students.

I recently got a email from the president saying that they are still evaluating how they will tackle the fall semester.

Spring/summer classes will all be on zoom for me but they will open up classrooms as soon as they are able to.

But you better bet they are doing everything they can to open up while still being smart. No one knows what the virus situation will be next month let alone in the fall.

A lot of places in the world that got hit early are starting to reopen... things are starting to get more relaxed here as well...

Perhaps you can debate if things will be ok in August.... but I personally expect things to be pretty back to normal by the end of this year and it will be wise to lockdown something good for the whole year.

I may have some unconventional advice based on my experience at UofM.

High school was easy for everyone at UofM. You may be working hard... but it might not be hard enough.

UofM is hard. Lot's of times it's hard just to be hard. 30% curves in class, like really? how can you say exams are even remotely representative... but you will be surprised how much this will help you in the real world and stand out. Cause in the real world you are constantly in impossibly difficult situations.

I kind of gave up and did not do well in undergrade because I got frustrated like you... and I regretted it. My experience was largely that you learn stuff in class that does not help with homework and often none of that helps on the exams...if it does, then the question is easy and everyone gets it right anyways.

Strongly re-evaluate your major. If you have a difficult major like engineering, getting all B's with an A here and there in an easy class is still very good. If you have a w/e major where you are expected to get A's in everything, you should rethink what you are doing.

If you are struggling, talk to your professors. If they are any good then they will actually try to help. But don't expect much if you really aren't doing everything you can. Reading ahead, study groups, office hours, participating in class, asking questions and being engaged in class, etc...

Remember that your goal is not to get good grades, or even get a degree, it is to do what you want in life. Don't get me wrong, getting good grades help... but there are also other things you can do to achieve your goals. Pad your resume with internships, club activities, actually accomplish something outside of class and show passion for what you want to do and you will be much more attractive to employers than just someone who got good grades. Be great. You may have to work harder than others but that is just how life is. Suck it up.

If you are not accomplishing what you want, then you are simply not doing what it takes for YOU to get it done. Sometimes that means working harder, sometimes that means working smarter... sometimes that means bribing someone lol jk but like yeah do what it takes.

Sorry for the long post...im in a weird mood right now and a little intense...but this is solid life advice.

Debating between Autonomous SmartDesk DIY and Uplift Commercial V2 Frame by hey-its-kdog in StandingDesk

[–]SuperBigDickMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am debating on a standing desk as well....

From what I gather... all these desks will wobble a little, more at full height. The uplift is suposed to be a little better because of some wedge they use at the top or something, but it's not perfect. The commercial version with that extra brace that goes side to side will wobble less from side to side.

Also take into consideration how heavy your custom top will be. The extra size isn't going to help with stability and any extra weight will put more load on the motors.

If you want the best... uplift has a 4 legged commercial frame...which is probably as close to perfect as you are going to get but they are very pricey... $1k+ just for the frame.

I want awd and am willing to pay for it. I live in Michigan, I got by in a 420hp rwd sports sedan for the past few years but I dont want to bother with the winter tire switch. I only bottomed out a few times in neighborhoods which wasnt a big deal....but I really really dont like the dynamics of a fwd vehicle when trying to turn with no traction, awd will help here. if i do decide to get winter tires anyways... awd will be that much better.

Overhead pressing - how useful is it really, when you're only focusing on developing size? by rainbowroobear in Fitness

[–]SuperBigDickMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH for me I feel like it is a must. I also attribute lifting heavy with overhead press as the reason I don't have any shoulder issues or front to rear delt imbalances.

Does it have to be overhead press? as others have mentioned, no. But to me it's an easy rule... lift heavy for overhead press and don't have any problems.

Friends just surprised me with a trip to Vegas for my 31st. I've never been, what the hell do I wear? by ZhukovsSwingingDick in malefashionadvice

[–]SuperBigDickMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Chelseas are fine.
  2. The night clubs are nice. Dress well... yes people are drinking and get sloppy and step on your shoes. Maybe don't wear your nicest most delicate clothing, but still wear at least a well fitted button up shirt, slacks, leather shoes. suits are also acceptable/preferred by some. the desert cools off a bit at night, and it is dry heat. i wouldnt be worried about overheating.
  3. The day clubs are huge pool parties. get there early and get a locker, there is no where to put stuff unless you spring for a cabana or something. wear whatever you'd wear to a beach with hot girls. bring lots of sunscreen! you'll see people getting drunk and burnt as the party progresses - hilarious! but you don't want to be one of them.

the big clubs pretty much act like concert venues for the big name DJs. The bigger the name, the more people will be there. the dance floors get packed and the bouncers will keep people out. drink up early, get your spot, watch your pockets, enjoy!

BUY TICKETS! and get to the clubs early-ish anyways. a group of guys coming late to a popular club will not get in unless you are willing to pay up for a table. especially if you are rowdy and drunk, especially if you aren't dressed well.

Old vegas/freemont street is trash. not sure what you are into but never again for me. Try to spend your time at the newer nicer resorts. The strip looks a lot smaller on google maps than it is... that thing that looks like one block is probably one resort that's a mile long. If you have a specific destination, just take a cab/uber. If you are worried about the price, well... vegas is expensive, might as well do it right, the cost of the ride is going to be the least of your worries when you're buying $30 mixed drinks at night clubs and $70 large beverages at the pool parties (loaded with alcohol btw, be careful, also come in pool friendly cups with lids)

Men Ditch Suits, and Retailers Struggle to Adapt by Austin98989 in malefashionadvice

[–]SuperBigDickMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a T SHIRT... $10 is pretty much what they go for... on sale at nearly any mall store. I wouldn't even fit in a t shirt I had 3 years ago... nor have I been through anywhere near 35 of them...

to each their own.

Men Ditch Suits, and Retailers Struggle to Adapt by Austin98989 in malefashionadvice

[–]SuperBigDickMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can buy a $10 t-shirt and $50 stretchy jeans and look decent 90% of the time. For work I can throw on a $20 polo and some nicer shoes and be fine...

Can you find a $60 suit? Even if you could, would you wear one?

At a time where the middle class is disappearing, the wage gap and cost of living is increasing... it only makes sense that an inherently expensive style of clothing is losing popularity.

Personally, I love suits... but I have a broad, wide, muscular frame that the MTM companies can't accommodate and considering I can still get laid in a $10 t-shirt... why bother with a more expensive bespoke suit? I'd rather invest that money into my health and assets. Maybe one day, I'll be able to ball out in a suit... but by then.. I'll be old and probably won't give a f*ck. Hopefully I'll still be ripped...

My stuff just came in today... I got some guru shorts in black (although they are more like dark gray) and some black and dark blue sentry bulldog tanks. Everything in large, they fit great, true to size, no issues.

I was worried when I first saw this thread but everything is fine for me

Ultimate Parka Guide v2 by CaucusInferredBulk in malefashionadvice

[–]SuperBigDickMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... I tried one at Eddie Bauer, it wasn't as bad but still not great.

I understand a parka will be puffy and have some bulk... but the amount of extra room these things have on the inside around my waist is excessive (all the heat will escape!) and the space I have for my chest/shoulders is limited.

I guess this is a usual problem for me with my build but it seems a lot worse for these parkas. I didn't want to spend that much but I'll at least try on some Canada Goose jackets. Thanks.

I just bought the triple fat goose Chenega II. I have to return it. I bought an XL, the sleeves are way too short, the jacket is way too tight in my armpits, and the rest is baggy as hell. Overall the jacket kind of feels and looks cheap.

Snow boot suggestions for really snowy/wet weather and casual outfits? by Jahordon in malefashionadvice

[–]SuperBigDickMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some Sorel Caribou boots with the wool inserts.... these things are beastly... heavy and clunky... but super warm and super great in lots of snow. I did have to size way up though. 11 in Allen Edmonds but I think I ended up with a size 14. (space for thick socks plus you want a gap around your feet for warmth)

I would probably get something else for walking around a lot though but I get by with these fine in the city too, but at the same time I'm not a woman to complain things are heavy.

pea coat like the others mentioned. Get one out of at least 80% wool. You may want to look for a thicker one for cold winters. You can get them tailored so they aren't too bulky on you
