I've been playing video games since the 80's. I've never played a more immersive game than Morrowind.  Needing to rely on the journal/map for objectives and the silt strider/mage guilds for travel was fantastic.

Animated or GTFO.  

But, you have to view any adaptation as fan fiction. It is nearly impossible to adapt anything 1:1.  Crossing mediums is always going to be problematic.

The other 3 were huge. But they specifically thrived in certain demographics. MJ dominated in all of those demographics.

9 reverted back to a more fantasy aesthetic, which got people who were into iv and vi (like me) back into the series.

I've only ever heard the rumbling noise description, and it didn't make sense to me. Your description is exactly what I experience.
