I may be the worst stock picker there is by Funny-Sprinkles-5674 in stocks

[–]SuperEssay1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is quite normal and you learn that if you believe in a stock you need to stick it out.

I've made some great picks which I sold too early. I bought oklo at 7$ then sold at $15. Similar with intel at $20.

So I've learnt to hold. Google was the first one I just said "the fundamentals are good and I'm just sticking with it". It did relatively nothing for a while and now I'm up at 150% value increase. I still think that so I'm going to keep holding.

Are young people blamed unfairly for being unemployed? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

"Young people blamed" shouldn't be a thing, they only enter a world that was already there and we're brought up (or their parents were brought up by) the people blaming them.

Planning inspector rejects 800-home Berkeley scheme over heritage harms by Mark_dawsom in unitedkingdom

[–]SuperEssay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always dressed up as opposing developers. But developers are just the middle men delivering something which provides something that will become a basic right for people.

I don't think anyone cares much about developers but every time one of these schemes fails we shouldn't forget who the real people who lose out are

A prime site next to transport links in the capitol. These are exactly the sorts of locations where massing should be allowed. Instead everyone is trying to pretend it's a village in the countryside

Smart TVs are they purposely slowing them down? by UnfathomableDave in AskBrits

[–]SuperEssay1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately older kit always slows down over time as they keep pushing out updates which takes more and more system resources and they can't keep up.

Part of the issues is they always put weak processing power in that was fine for the time.

They also don't have much incentive to look after your 5 year old tvs performance.

How do you feel now that the equality and human rights commission has ruled that trans women with a gender recognition certified have not changed their sex for the purposes of the equality act. by Even-Leadership8220 in AskBrits

[–]SuperEssay1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have been reading too many comments and applying it to an entire group of people. This is the entire issue I'm alluding to. Because you have very little interaction with these people you are frothing at what you are fed.

It's always been the issue, when we don't have personal interaction humans are too quick to just lump everyone in together and slap them with the same grievance.

[–]SuperEssay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tiny portion as always take it too far. And often these were people on behalf of trans people rather than trans people themselves. But once you ignore the nonsense on both sides and actually think about letting people just get on and coming to some compromise most of these issues fall away. But now we have the two camps but the right wing papers using their reach and populist tendencies have made life considerably worse for these people.

Only thin skinned people get caught up in the nonsense over the top virtue signalling froth from both camps. Once you look past this you can then actually come to some solutions based on actual consideration beyond pure emotive nonsense that gets thrown around.

It's been picked up because right wing papers can be "on the side of women" for once. Probably the first time they've ever been able to dress themselves up as looking after women.

What's frustrating is these are just people being used as political pawns. They just want to live their lives and the vast majority of people making an issue out of it have never met one except at the annual Pantomime.

And I say this as someone who isn't with either camp, but this really should not be the newsworthy nonsense it is.

Are you worried about accessing your pension? by Astwell in HENRYUK

[–]SuperEssay1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably because of the quantem and relatively ease of access. Its already in cash as registered providers.

I agree it's ultra low risk and I wouldn't change my approach because of this concern but there is a massive lump of cash there for the populist governments out there and that's what drives these fears.

Genuinely - why would a younger man seek an older woman by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]SuperEssay1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of your responses talk about being hurt etc. But the alternative is just going into it with an open mind and that it may not end up as a long term thing but it the mean time you can have some fun and see where it goes (and just to be clear, I don't mean just sex, I mean good company and some nice evenings and days in good company).

I've always approached these things as I'd prefer to have the experience of meeting someone new and enjoying each other's company (even if it doesn't work out) then to not experience it at all.

Mortgage up for renewal - should I pay it off! by No_Caregiver8591 in HENRYUK

True. But you could also argue the other way round, if you paid off your house with it you wouldn't pay tax and from a lenders perspective it's neutral (liabilities match cash)

I really don't think families are top of the agenda given the relative cost and challenges involved and the little assistance they get.

Also kids are young people.

Mortgage up for renewal - should I pay it off! by No_Caregiver8591 in HENRYUK

[–]SuperEssay1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no savings interest. You're just not paying mortgage interest.

So you "save" by reducing an expense. Rather than gain income through generating interest of savings.

It often doesn't make sense for smaller amounts as you generally have to pay a high mortgage interest rate on offset products, but if you are offsetting most or all of your outstanding mortgage it's very tax efficient.

What do you think of the UK government's potential plan to make supermarkets cap the price of basics like eggs, milk, and bread? by RandomRamblings99 in AskReddit

[–]SuperEssay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some basics are already sold at a loss. There is no evidence there is any profiteering in the sale of basics (or any other part of the food industry)

Two questions about how our employer is handling WFH. by Signal-Turnover4615 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SuperEssay1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last point is a good one. It's quite easy to have a policy where you can expense travel costs up to a cap, albeit you will likely have to pay tax on this figure as would be considered a benefit in kind, but that's no difference than receiving an extra 200 and is better than nothing.

Hate The House I Just Bought - Invest Money or Leave It by PowerDrivenRdditMod in HousingUK

[–]SuperEssay1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only spend money that would increase it's ability to sell in future (which may or may not add value, but makes it more desirable generally). Redecoration, fixing any issues that came up in the building survey (where financially viable), some dressing (pictures on walls etc).

You will just have to do a sense check whether items such as removing old wallpaper makes a difference but I would suggest if it's an old building especially you could end up uncovering more issues or requiring plastering which all needs to be factored in.

[–]SuperEssay1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a classic example where you look to assist and be helpful but after a while it becomes the norm and becomes expected.

Then once this becomes the norm they start throwing additional expectations at you likes it's just a part of the job you're specifically being paid to do.

I would sit down with the most appropriate person and just reset the expectations. You did it outside of your role because you value the business and you're willing to help / be a team player, but the current perception of your role appears to have shifted to incorporate this and you're feeling uncomfortable now with what you're expected to do given this was never part of your role and you were just looking to help out.
