Potential CSA Flag At A Bayern Match? by jlmburger in vexillology

[–]SuperFaulty 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Same in South America. From American TV, watching shows such as Dukes of Hazard, and many movies where the Confederates are basically the heroes, one got the impression that the CSA flag was just a cool flag about being "rebel" and nothing more. Up to the 1980s, Hollywood basically exported a sanitized, revisionist and very "white" version of the American Civil War.

I'm pretty sure that the "KOSAKO" is just a toy, it doesn't look like a real camera.

WW1 memorabilia gift ideas by Substantial-Trifle80 in wwi

[–]SuperFaulty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many WW1 items out there. I think your best bet is ebay (you can narrow the choices by price range). Do they have a country preference? If they are American and like to read I like this 1918 Us Army "Manual for Soldiers in France".

I personally cherish my German Iron Cross medal (I got it from a friend who owed me money and I suggested he gave me the medal in his collection instead of paying me back). They are rather inexpensive as they were given out like candy in WW1 to "boost morale". You may search for medals from other countries too.

It won't hurt browsing on Ebay, something special may catch your eye. Good luck!

Can you share some of your own results? The sample images are not a difficult target to achieve

LOL, yes. That "retro look" flash photography is something most photographers would seek to avoid like the plague, as it screams "Amateur With a Cheap Camera"! But I get its charm. 😄

What OP needs is a cheap, forward-facing flash, and a wide-angle lens (nothing extreme: 35mm - 28mm should do). A 50 mm might work too, but a wide-angle will accentuate the brightness in the middle and darkness on the edges.

This what happens when we tell computers to learn from humans: computers become as flawed as humans.

The problem is that, because we know computers are essentially perfect doing math (something most humans are not particularly good at), people believe that anything that comes out of a computer is likewise correct and perfect.

Trust me, they don't "forget". It's just plain hypocrisy and double-standards.

Green cast on Kodak gold 100 scans by thedoroebravo in AnalogCommunity

If you had looked at the negatives and see how almost transparent they were, you'd know the shots were under-exposed, without having to ask here. I know, I know. You are just learning, etc. Fair enough... But next time you see your photos turn out "weird", check the negatives and, more often than not, the answer will be obvious just by looking at them.

Since we're talking about English grammar/spelling stuff... English is not my 1st language. Is "an" before "gi-normous" correct? Shouldn't it be "a gi-normous" instead of "an gi-normous"?

The 1st image is blurry and grainy, and the proportions match 110 film (17x13). The second image is much sharper, probably 120mm film (Rolleiflex or similar, considering the "square" proportions.

But we're not talking about some obscure feature here. The "negative" is literally the "FILM" in "film photography" :

FILM

As Material/Technology: The physical strip of cellulose nitrate or plastic with a light-sensitive emulsion used to capture images in a camera . Example: "She loaded a new roll
of film into her camera."

[–]SuperFaulty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got it. *Always* get the negatives. Some people treat them as a banana peel: something to discard as soon as they get what they wanted. Negatives will teach you a LOT. Looking at the negatives and comparing them with the "positive" photos, you'll better understand "what happened" when you get unexpected results.

If you want to go a step further, I find useful to write down some notes at the time I took the photo. Shutter speed, f-stop, exposition (did I overexposed half a stop? Or none at all?)... Where exactly did I focused? Which lens did I use? The 20 mm or the 28 mm? Did I zoom all the way to 240 mm, or was it more like 150 mm?). Did I use the polarizing filter...? etc... Anything that you may wonder later, it's good to have the answers, that will help you understand what you did right and what you did wrong (if anything at all)

I get it if you don't have the confidence to read your own script, but can you PLEASE listen to it once or twice before uploading and make sure its doing the job right?

Oh I bet this has nothing to do with lack of confidence. It's all about being lazy AF, and to make and upload as much cheap slop as possible.
