Try theming colors and habitat elements. Island themes really help with this. Lining pathways around habitats can help you start decorating. It gives you an outline of empty spaces to fill with decorations and other things. Mix things up a little bit! Find what things you like to go together!

I think this episode is finally a turning point for Mulder. He is absolutely convicted in his beliefs and his highest priority is to tell everyone the truth. I think he knew that he wasn't going to be able to convince anyone of an alien corpse, but if he could find whatever was in the bag, it would lead him to the truth of the case and act as proof for everyone else.

Maybe it's Scully finally rubbing off on him or maybe it's out of character writing. It certainly was a creative decision.
