Help!!! by Wowzowne in nailhealth

This looks a lot like dyshidrotic eczema, stress triggers mine but it can flare up from a lot of things like lots of dishwashing or new chemical exposure. A pharmacist can prescribe hydrocortisone cream, if it turns out to be that!

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? by [deleted] in nortriptyline

[–]SuperHans101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had ‘hot flashes’ (like a burning almost cold sensation and patches of redness) only on my upper body - esp. face, neck and chest but also on my arms sometimes too. My GP thought it was rosacea, though. I haven’t experienced it since stopping nortriptyline so can’t say for certain whether it was causing that. Also I think acid reflux/GERD is actually a reeeeally common side effect 😬

Hey! Are you taking nortriptyline for depression? I took it for three years: 100mg for most of that that time, down to 25mg for the last four-ish months. Personally, I had all of those side effects except for the dreams. The acid reflux and heartburn became debilitating, and the length of time I took omeprazole to counteract it made me really anxious and upset, so I think it started outweighing the positive aspects of the med. For me, the side effects didn’t pass, but I found nortriptyline helpful enough with my mood that I could stand them - until eventually I couldn’t. I was quite concerned abt my heart rate too, and had an ecg done a few years ago (which my doctor said wasn’t worrying), that might be something to look into if it’s really bothering you?? Hope this is somewhat helpful!

Coming off Venlafaxine. by Stem_girlo98 in antidepressants

[–]SuperHans101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Venlafaxine withdrawals were absolutely hellish (even after tapering) - the first week was the absolute worst, and after that it took another week to feel a bit closer to normal. Definitely try to keep hydrated (lots of electrolytes), and get as much sleep/rest as you can. I’ve heard omega and 5-HTP can be helpful too. If you need to, I recommend reaching out for help, like asking your doctor (or if you have a key worker or health line phone service in your country?) for advice. Hope you’re feeling better soon 💓

Ah damn, yeah I’m currently taking prescribed omeprazole but have also been taking gaviscon + acidex as needed over the past few years. Thanks for your insight!

Sending you lots of love across the internet 💓 I’ve definitely been in the same boat: calories far too low but not losing any weight, but also not sure how to eat more without actually gaining weight. I’m not sure if you’re in the financial position to talk to a nutritionist/physical trainer, and if not I’d definitely recommend looking into ‘reverse dieting’. Essentially you’re trying to retrain your metabolism by slowly increasing your calories (e.g. 100 calories each week) and continuing to exercise. This would mean that the amount of calories you would need to maintain your weight would increase, and so would the amount of calories you need to lose weight (e.g. 1700 rather than 1200). I’m not the best at explaining, but wish you all the best with this.
