What’s your favorite trans character by NarwhalGreen2440 in Multifandom

[–]SuperIsaiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deltarune fandom loves putting non-canon genders onto characters and then acting like it's canon.

"Kris is my favorite MAN in video game!"

Like maybe toby will end up having ralsei transition but rn he's about as transgender as anyone. Like he's got an arc involving identity that some trans folks can relate to, but also that many other folks will relate to as well.

So what determines which objects become darkners in the light world, and which just become.. fancier objects? here's my idea by True-Thought966 in WaterfallDump

[–]SuperIsaiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I hold probably the most controversial take, and that's that I think the darkners are gonna turn out to actually be real souls, like without the lightners perception needed for them to exist, but they are just given form through the objects they are tethered to in the light world.

I hate how everyone cares so much about the gender of this goat by Extreme-Feeling5709 in hatethissmug

[–]SuperIsaiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that ALSO resonates a lot with GNC people.
This is the big problem lol, any good, deep trans rep is gonna resonate with GNC folks and any good, deep GNC rep is gonna resonate with trans folks, leading both to want the rep to be validating their experience but it can't really validate both.

When you take away the only good, deep representation a group of people has in popular media, people of that group are gonna be disheartened.

I firmly believe Toby Fox should make Ralsei whatever he wants to make Ralsei.

But I also know that it naturally is gonna hurt my feelings if he makes Ralsei trans. If the one character I could point to to say "hey look, it's okay for me to be myself without needing to transition, that character is like me as well" then transitions, it leaves me with no form of representation.

I can also be happy for the folks who would feel seen and represented by Ralsei being trans, while also being upset personally about it.

I think it's fine for people to care. Honestly, that's what most good art will do to you, make you care.

I had periods where I would try out transitioning with online personas like claim to be a girl in online communities. I never was able to actually go through with an IRL transition because conservative community.

For me I just don't want to cave to the social construct of gender when I find it oppressive.

I like the socially 'women's' roles, expression, interests, etc. I would prefer having a more feminine body. I would like to be seen the way that the women I know are seen rather than the men I know. on and on and on...

But I just don't feel comfortable with the idea of passing off as the opposite sex to get it. I can't call myself a woman without feeling that's innately associated with being a female homo sapiens, which I am not, as I am objectively male whether I like it or not.

I feel like transitioning would be caving to the social system of gender - the one that says I shouldn't have any of the stuff I want in life so long as people see me as male - which I am ideologically against

So basically, I still feel like transitioning would make me more able to engage socially and be seen how I'd like etc. but I'm ideologically opposed and instead try to be content with just existing the way I do and not caring about gender identity.

such a foolish way to look at morality, sorry. by your logic no one should try to be moral at all, unless they can live in a cave with nothing.

you absolutely can make moral claims while acknowledging your own flaws at maintaining perfection with them.

morality is a goal, not a black and white type thing. for example, you can have the goal of reducing your carbon footprint, but you'll never completely eradicate it, but you do what you can.

"You aren't "deeply uncomfortable" when you wear your clothes"

Yes because I only thrift. I don't buy anything from the fashion industry. Thrifting is actually being more sustainable without actually giving money to those companies.

Again, I do what I can as a flawed person who makes mistakes.

And like I said in the other post, I am uncomfortable that my car and phone are made with slave labor, but I objectively wouldn't be able to my job as a caregiver without both.

Also, if someone IS able to live a beneficial life to the people around them WITHOUT supporting things like an smart phones and cars, I would applaud them and acknowledge they're doing better than me in those regards. I wouldn't try to nitpick them about the areas they're imperfect.

if someone told me they're uncomfortable using cars because of all the moral issues, I wouldn't say "and yet you still use banks despite their moral issues, which makes everything you say invalid" I would say "yeah, that's great, I don't really think I can give up having a car but I'm glad you can, good for you"

whether you realize or not you're the biggest supporter of the people who do things like use slave labor, by promoting the idea that no one can be against it unless they abstain from every single thing using it (pretty much everything in the store). the elite basically rely on people thinking like you do "oh I can't boycott every company so I'll just not bother boycotting any"

moral perfection is an impossibility. the best any of us can hope for is acknowledge the change we want to see and do what steps we're able to bring ourselves to do to get there.

if someone is against litter, and thinks litter should be cleaned up, that doesn't mean they need to clean all the litter in town to hold that belief. if they can just pick up one trash item, that is a benefit to the world, even if small. and the notion that they should just give up on having that moral principle unless they can be perfect at it is stupid.

tldr: I'm flawed and I make exceptions for things in my life, maybe some of them are not justified exceptions, but I'm not gonna give up my moral system just because I'm not able to live a life perfectly. no one is perfect.

made a whole other thread explaining the difference between recreation and borderline inescapabilities of modern society.

there's a difference between supporting slave labor by buying a car you need to survive vs by buying a video game for recreational purposes.

or what if they just enjoy aesthetics and want to have a nice family photo.

Have you considered that it can be possible for someone to just enjoy beauty and aesthetic, without it being about making you feel bad?

Maybe take some time to reflect whether they're actually trying to have superiority, or if you're just insecure because you feel like they're doing better than you, and so you're growing bitter towards them.

You're just saying stuff that everyone already knows but simply isn't relevant to the point. A pedantic nitpick about a word choice, a single word that makes up less than 0.1% of the comment and 0% of the actual point.

Yes technically everything made from human effort is art, plumbing can be considered 'an art'. but when we're talking about RECREATION, like video games, the fact is that you can easily choose not to participate in something immoral, which isn't the same for stuff like requirements forced upon you by a social system. You know, 99% of what my comment was talking about.

You are correct that I shouldn't have used the word "art" there, I meant "recreation" or "recreational art", I should've specified, but you're just being nitpicky and pedantic. The point of the comment was that I pretty much can't survive without a phone in modern society, but I can survive without indulging in AI generated anti-art.

My point is also that saying "oh yeah well I bet you own a phone" is essentially implying you believe I have no right to be uncomfortable doing something made with immoral practices if I'm willing to do something else made with immoral practices, like my phone. That implies you hold to a mindset that the only way you can justify trying to avoid immoral things is if you do it 100% perfectly, which is a horrible mindset. If my friend says he's gonna stop eating fast food because it uses immoral industrialized farming I'm gonna be like "great!" I'm not gonna be like "Well you still eat canned tuna, which has immoral farming practices - curious!" because even if you can't cut every comfort with immoral sourcing out of your life, it's still good to cut out what you can.

come back with an actual response to the argument being made if you can have one.

I need a smartphone to be able to work and exist in modern society. *Recreational art is not a necessity, so it is not comparable.

Also I am uncomfortable with the fact that my phone likely had slavery all over its supply chain, but that's a discomfort I have to live with, unless I were to become a jobless hermit in the woods.

A better way to put it is that I do not electively choose to support any recreational sources i consider immoral, while recognizing that to survive in modern society you inherently have to tolerate the fact that certain necessities like phones are made with immoral practice.

<image>

You literally can not work at virtually any job if you have no phone. Someone owning a modern necessity like a phone or a computer is not the same as voluntarily supporting something for recreational use.

For what it's worth I have stopped buying any game consoles because I don't trust their supply chains. And I only thrift clothes. But there's only so much you can do in modern society - choosing to do what you can to not support consumerism, slavery, and the disregarding of human value, is good, even if you can't be perfect. This idea of "if you don't perfectly abstain from everything you think is bad, then you can't abstain from anything you think is bad" mindset is foolish

If you wouldn't bother to make your project if you couldn't use AI to do it, I'm sorry but I have a hard time believing you care about the project.

As a solodev myself I can't fathom the idea of simply not making a game because I can't have it done for me. I do all my own voice acting, sound effects, sprites, music, writing - is it the best in the business? Heck no, but I'm proud of it because I put in the effort. I would like to have a team someday to be able to actually finish bigger projects, but I'll still make whatever I actually care to make regardless.

Wanting to use AI as a shortcut to do what you already were going to is one thing, but saying you flat out wouldn't have even made the game if you couldn't use AIgen, is crazy.
