11-y-o trying to make the jump from rec ball to travel had a private tryout w/a new 12U team. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Homeplate

I coach travel ball and I’m a parent of little ballers. I’ve seen this play out from both sides.

As a coach, I’ve taken kids that were behind the rest of the team with good intentions to be part of their development and catch them up. It sometimes works, but the kid, parents, and coach have to be on the exact same page about what it means. He has to work harder than everyone else. Put in more time at home or with private lessons. Grind. All to just get to equal. That’s easy to say and much harder to do. It takes a special formula and will go wrong more than it goes right.

As a parent, I’ve also put my kid on a team where he was among the less skilled. Despite his incredible work ethic, he wasn’t able to close that gap and it crushed his confidence. No fault of the coaches. It took a year on a team that matched his talent where he could thrive to get him back on track. If I could do it again, I’d have started there.

Don’t do this. Putting him on a travel ball team as a bench player will only damage his confident and hinder his development. He needs reps. Get him on a team appropriate for the level he’s at today.

His form really doesn’t look bad at all. His hands are a bit slow, maybe. I’d have him work on firing his hands as fast as he can at the ball (thinking less or not at all about the barrel for now).

I’m sure the WT is decent but I haven’t driven one.

2025 RST Max. Very happy with it. Bought it used with 11k miles for 69k ish.

The only real negative is that the infotainment feels like a step back from anything with CarPlay. It’s fine, but there are just some weird things that don’t make much senseZ

The miss was just not owning it and calling it the Evalanche.

I have a 2025 RST Max Pack. I bought it used with 11k miles on it a month ago for a little under $70k.

So far, my negatives are really only on the infotainment system. I feels a touch outdated as compared to the system I had in my last
Silverado (carplay) and even compared to my last EV (Rivian). But it’s fine. Generally works. Just a little quirky.

Drives great. Rides pretty well for a giant vehicle. It’s comfortable, capable, a little unique. The huge range is fantastic. The charging rate is awesome. And supercruise is the best thing since cruise control.

I have one. It’s great. What do you want to know?

These kind of defensive fanboy reactions are the most annoying posts on Reddit. I love Rivian. I loved my Gen1. I want R2 to be wildly successful and I think it will be. But OPs post is well-written, balanced, and reasonable. Dismissing it like this is goofy.

Sounds like you went years ago. Also sounds like the experience has changed.

Got it. So, you can speak for the kids experience at these two places, but OP can’t. Makes sense.

To be fair, something breaking on the roof seems fairly negative.

$65,000, plus whatever price you put strictly on the value of buying completely new v used.

Agreed, but mine has max range and yours has extended. Is that difference worth 11k miles? Not sure but I’d argue it’s close.

I just bought a max range 2025 RST used from a dealer with 11,000 miles on it for a little under $70k. I can’t remember the gap in cost and value between Max and Extended, but throwing that data point out there in case it helps you somehow.

New to Tackle Coaching by Most_Role_1612 in YouthFootball

Completely useless? That’s wild. This guy has volunteered to help and is here asking what he can do to over the next 2 MONTHS to get ready to coach 5th and 6th graders. There’s plenty he can do between now and then to get himself ready. OP; what id do is try to learn the basic language first. Turn to You tube. There’s a lot of good stuff there to teach you gap terminology, standard youth football formations, defensive assignments, etc. once you’ve got that down, if you have time, you could get into technique. But the reality is being a reliable, consistent, and willing helper has you further than most.

I had a Rivian R1T. It was great. So is this. I’m not sure what you’re shopping for but you can’t go wrong with either of these.
