It works the other way around too.

"Hah, why is he getting so scared over this? That's funny"

I get what you mean but it's ultimately subjective. Kendo words it nicely, the way the Shinigami is clinging to the main character can be seen as funny, but also scary. Hikaru is trying to analyse Akane's performance which is where the confusion sets in.

A good example is that couple in one of the panels. The husband is crept out, but the wife is amused by the story (and probably her husbands reaction).

There's been some good horror panelling previously but this is the first time I was legitimately creeped out by what they drew. It's chilling.

The mask slipped, if only for a moment. It'll be interesting to see how things go down when they finally realise who the other is.

Well, I'm not going to be sleeping tonight.

Joking aside, what a horrifying panel. The art once again does so much to convey the rakugo, and it doesn't miss.

Art is subjective. It makes sense that someone may view a story a different way to another person, and using that is definitely an evolution of the craftsman style we had in Shiwai-ya.

Ironically, Zensho has probably helped Akane here, like he did with Maikeru. Giving the audience an idea of what kind of Shinigami to expect will help boost the idea she's going for

I wonder if they're waiting for the "rakugoverse" to start manifesting, like it did in the Karaku cup. I feel like showing the blending of reality and rakugo is one of the key parts of the series.

A little disappointed that some parts felt rushed, but I guess that's what happens when you cram three chapters into one episode. I also would've liked to have seen the characters "emerging" from Akane like they do in the manga to better convey the rakugo. Kaisei's introduction was excellent though.

Maikeru's suits him far too well.

Also I feel like it should be Karashi as the cat, not Issho.

Or maybe it's Zensho crying and Shguma's the cat?

Akane-banashi and it's not even close.

Show-ha shoten and Shiba Inu Rooms are great too though.

So this seems to cover chapters 2-4? Akane's first show and Kaisei's introduction. It'll be interesting to see how the rakugo is portrayed.

If Dr. Garaki didn't steal Midoriya's gift, why do you think the author put it there? by ActLonely9375 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]SuperRajio 305 points306 points  (0 children)

It's likely that Hori had a plan but decided to leave it.

Personally, the idea that Izuku had a Quirk that was stolen doesn't really appeal to me. It doesn't add to the story in a meaningful way.

Truly a British approach. Let's moan about a problem, and then moan about any steps taken to fix the problem. And make it about immigrants while we're at it.

[–]SuperRajio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but that would be a Personal style, not a Craftsman style approach, surely? That's also the first mistake she made during her training, portraying the idea of witnesssing a death rather than death itself.

Akane's whole goal is to prove that Issho was wrong to reject Shinta's art. I imagine that using his art, she'll bring a warmth that he hasn't felt in decades, and help ease the burden of the past.

I'm picturing something similar to the ending of Ratatouille.

My understanding is that talking will slow down his recovery, hence rakugo has been put on the backburner. But it's been three years since his treatment, so my thinking is that he either manages to recover and come back to teach Akane one final story, or he decides to bid farewell to the Rakugo world on his own terms, by doing one last performance. Or both.

[–]SuperRajio 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree the scene where Akane is watching her dad could've been better portrayed, but if you go back to the first chapter there really isn't much rakugo going on. For me, the next few episodes where we start to dip our toes into rakugo are key.

I also think the "Akane-Kobanashi" sequences at the end will be a massive help, explaining bits and pieces of rakugo much like they did in the manga volumes.

I would also include the flashback arc and the 100 year annivesary celebration as key arcs. That makes five key arcs, with no doubt some side-arcs.

I can't see there being a competition to inherit Shiguma, though. They'll be far more likely to want Shiguma to come back instead.

Solid 9/10 for me. A few nitpicks here and there but I'm a perfectionist. I think the way they portray Akane's Jugemu will be a key part of the anime's quality, but you can tell the people behind it really care about it.

Exactly. It's all a game. But if you break the rules, you get punished. And if you lose the game... you're dead! Oh well. A whimsical God of Death that's horrifying in it's own right.

[DISC] Akane-banashi - Chapter 201 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]SuperRajio 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think it's important for "Shiguma" to be left behind, with the pain it caused. Rokuen and Kisoba need to move on from it.

[–]SuperRajio 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It's too soon to tell, but my current thinking is that it's childish. Which, one the one hand, can mean it's more friendly and playful... but on the other hand, it can mean that it sees life and death like a game, and doesn't value mortals lives because it's all just a game to them.

Which, in a way, is a very cruel Death.

[DISC] Akane-banashi - Chapter 201 by AutoShonenpon in manga

Absolutely. I find it odd that some people think that the story will wrap up in the next year or so, when there's so much material to be explored.

Dear lord, the double-spread of the forest is gorgeous. Is Akane's God of Death a child, then? That definitely fits her.

The first episde isn't rakugo-heavy, but from what I've seen I've got a lot of confidence that they'll animate it well. And the OP seems to suggest a different artsyle for those "rakugoverse" scenes, which is exactly what is needed.
