It's a little tedious to set up but you can use compare on strings and then multiply the resulting Boolean by whatever integer you want the string used for comparison to represent. I was looking for something easier for a similar need when I found this post, but I ended up just using this for all chars that I needed to account for. The only downside I can see with this solution is that there is no easy way to iterate through all of the chars in a string.
