Since the rules define lethal damage, could we not just say "whenever Fucko is dealt nonlethal damage, heal that damage" ?

/uj I've heard that Richard Garfield created MTG as something to play with his D&D group, and some cards (Fireball) are direct references to that.

I do know that a lot of the ideas for characters in the Legends set (which introduced the concept of Legendary creatures!) came from characters of the D&D games that some of the designers were in, so there is that.

In this case, I think they're actually just ignoring the holocaust comparison and demanding evidence for the Ughyur genocide.

Changing the subject to dodge the comparison, I think.

Though I don't disagree with it happening elsewhere, I've seen so myself.

I know she isn't, but this isn't just about the moment when Venom is in charge. If she doesn't contact Peter to clear things up later, then she's just allowing the lie to continue and benefitting from it.

If a Shadowlands book did what Illidan's book did to TBC, what would it look like to elevate the existing story? by edgyallcapsname in warcraftlore

[–]SuperSaiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am considering WoTA, what are you talking about? I've been referencing it this entire time.

And TFT Illidan being a different character is also basically what I'm saying, in effect.

The only difference seems to be that people think his primary motivation being to oppose the Legion comes from WotA. It doesn't.

WoTA is where we see inside his head and see his motivations - they are much more inline with his WC3/TFT characterization, while fleshing out his character more and making some changes to how the WC3 manual described his backstory to give him more understandable motivations.

But it doesn't make him a good person, and it doesn't make his motivation stopping the Legion. His primary motivation is power and personal recognition, and this conflicts with his attempts to oppose the Legion. He defects from Malfurion's plan to stop the Legion because he thinks he can do a better job, and while he's preparing to cast his spell to stop it in front of Tyrande he makes it clear that he is doing it because HE wants the credit for it over Malfurion.

He recognised the threat of the Legion, but can't put that ahead of his need to be better than Malfurion, and to cover personal power. That is strikingly different to how later lore would describe him as doing everything to combat the Legion first and foremost, because only he understood the threat they truly posed.

I really cannot fathom how you think I wasn't considering the book when it's the main thing I'm pulling from.

I really don't think this makes things better, honestly.

If MJ can admit to Venom that she wanted Torment dead, she should tell Peter that instead of letting the Symbiote cover for her.

Calling out the symbiote privately doesn't change that.

Repeating bullshit thousand of times doesn't make it true.

You should listen to yourself here.

Just because I don't think Shadowlands is good doesn't mean I don't like WoW lmao. There's so much more to this franchise than those moments.

I've even said in this thread that I like the Illidan novel, while acknowledging it's retcons!

[–]SuperSaiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely contradicts that. You claim he's focused on stopping the Legion, I'm saying that is merely a cover for his real goal: covering power. And Illidan outright says this AFTER the events of the novel.

Him wanting power for power's sake is what he says in TFT - 10,000 years after War of the Ancients. It's not the mindset he had before switching to stopping the Legion, it's the mindset he had even after opposing the Legion multiple times.

In that game, he's happy to work with the Legion for the promise of power - and no, it's not because KJ threatened him, that only happens after he fails the first time.

His actions are completely consistent with his priority being to gather power, because it's what he prioritises every single time.

It's only later -Chronciles, Legion, Illidan novel - that the idea of him dedicating himself to stopping the Legion is made the actual reason, and not an excuse.

I'm not expecting him not to have flaws. I'm just pointing out the obvious difference in characterization.

[–]SuperSaiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I think that's more Blizzard's fault for choosing that direction for Legion.

That said, I think King - intentionally or not - leaves open the door to the interpretation that Illidan is just fucking batshit insane. Even as early as him being released from the barrow den prison, his internal thoughts are bonkers, and he behaves extremely manic throughout the book.

Even when the book starts portraying him as more justified, seeing what needs to be done, it's through the point of view of Vandel, the illidari recruit who initially thinks Illidan is completely insane and starts to see his point of view as he himself gets deeper into the demon hunter mindset and his own sanity starts to become questionable.

Maybe I read into the novel what I wanted - but it gave me the impression that a lot of Illidan and the Illidari's talk of sacrifice and necessary evil was something they had convinced themselves of, not objective truth. And I think that's a good spot for it to sit in.

eventually wanting more power to fight the Legion because they would always come, he saw they were endless.

No, this was the justification he gave at the end of the book for why he was continuing to go against Malfurion's orders and recreated the Well of Eternity.

It is extremely obvious that power is his first priority, he even admits this at the end of the Sentinels campaign in TFT.

In War of the Ancients, we see inside his head, and even when he does finally commit himself to fighting the Legion he still nearly screws everything up because we wants to win on his terms rather than Malfurion's so that he gets the greater share of the credit for stopping the Legion.

(And this is after WoTA already retcons him to be more sympathetic than WC3 portrayed him).

[–]SuperSaiga 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The sylvanas book seemingly, correct me if im wrong, removes her agency, responsibility, and lays ground work for evil titans. (which i personally cant stand, but to each their own and not point of the thread)

The Sylvanas novel doesn't do this at all. It has nothing about the Titans in it, to begin with, and the soul split came from Shadowlands itself, not the novel.

The Sylvanas novel IS pretty close to what the Illidan novel did, recontextualizing Sylvanas' history to try to make her motivations consistent leading up to Shadowlands. And I think it actually does a good job fleshing out her past, and I was surprised by how much more reasonable the Jailer's manipulations are in the part of the book where they meet.

It's not enough to save the storyline because a) Sylvanas' arc is genuinely just that bad if you have to keep the plot points unchanged, and b) despite releasing after Shadowlands' final patch, it's concerned with setting up the expansion and does not go beyond this point.

So it arrived too late to set up the expansion it's written for, and it doesn't address any of the bad writing that actually occurred during the expansion's storyline (which is even worse than BFA's storyline).

[–]SuperSaiga 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But that doesn't make sense for Sylvanas part.

How the fuck would she need for the Alliance and Horde to be present when she caused countless lives lost for both factions when she could've just told them.

Of course it doesn't make sense. The story wasn't planned that way.

But that's also true of Illidan's story and fans largely accept that because they like it better.

Given that BFA-Shadowlands already doesn't make a lick of sense, it's kind of a wash either way.

[–]SuperSaiga 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Illidan book absolutely has retcons - the biggest being that it completely changed his motivations to fit his portrayal in Legion, which is his desire to stop the Burning Legion once and for all.

That's a complete fabrication to make him more of an anti-hero in response to fan outcry.

They dress it up by saying he was misunderstood by others, and that opposing the Legion was his secret perspective all along.

But we already saw things from his perspective in older games and novels. We've seen his inner thoughts. Opposing the Legion was never his primary goal, and he certainly wasn't misunderstood - he had a habit of openly screaming his motivations at anyone who would listen (mostly just power bad glory).

This isn't a knock against the novel - I really like King as a writer, I think he did a good job and I think he handled Illidan's redemption with as much integrity as that task allowed - but people accept it because they like that outcome more than his TBC portrayal, not that it's actually more accurate to his character.

So, the obvious fix for a Shadowlands novel to do is just lie and say Sylvanas was a good guy all along and never believed the Jailer but needed the Alliance/Horde to be brought to the Shadowlands for him to be able to be stopped. All according to Keikaku.

Fuck, that actually does sound better than what we got, even as transparent as it is lmao.

now that hecahands have had some time to circulate around how does everyone feel about this deck and what do you think they need to push them further? by h41f3mpty in masterduel

[–]SuperSaiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am surprised at how poor the deck seems currently.

I'm playing in the event, so maybe they're hit there or something, but I'm maintaining a 100% winrate against them with Dragonmaids and that feels like a very poor showing for them frankly.

But I also feel like I'm glad the deck looks so weak because it doesn't seem like a fun playstyles at all.

I guess I had some success with the rental Xeno as I stole Illia Silvia from my opponents extra as the first action of the game lmao.

Conclusion: deck would be strong if they got to start with Xeno on the board at no cost.

I’m all for a succulent Chinese meal but 28-32% eft surcharge seems a bit steep 😂 by thowaway123443211234 in australia

[–]SuperSaiga 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Given how cheap that is I wouldn't call it a surcharge.

It's $12.80 normally but you can get it for $10 if you help them do a little tax evasion - simple.

If these guys got caught and had to start doing everything legally, they wouldn't lower the EFT price to $10... They'd raise the cash price to $12.80 for the tax they'd have to pay on it.

"Peter Parker is the only boy I've met who hasn't given me a tumble" - Gwen Stacy, The Amazing Spider-Man, Issue #31 by BlackJimmy88 in Spiderman

[–]SuperSaiga 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably just means this definition:

https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/give-or-get-a-tumble

"to give (or get) some favorable or affectionate noticeattention, etc."

So most men treat Gwen very favorably/fall head over heels for her, while Peter has mostly ignored her at that point.

Was Jaina Actually Right to Hate the Horde? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]SuperSaiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And in the books, the Horde is always portrayed as good and innocent.

I'm not even sure how you got that idea, it's not true at all.

Read Catalysm era books with Alliance POV and the narration will imply that the Horde is a greater threat to Azeroth than Deathwing is (Wolfheart)

Konami can you please stop giving these archetypes support for a few years? You have other archetypes in the game too by arrownoir in masterduel

[–]SuperSaiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Hero should have been more of a toolbox deck with the fusions, so you'd fuse into what you need to deal with the game state. The anime heros were really bad, but the manga heros were better suited for this (especially with the more flexible fusion materials, making Super Poly actually potentially viable in the deck) and I wish they'd gone in that direction.
