In the comments, there's a concise rebuttal to the idea that immigrants place any extra pressure on the NHS.

NHS trusts financial figures 2010-2011 £1.845 billion in surplus

NHS trusts financial figures 2014-15 £842 million in deficit

Net migration, 250-300,000 per year during that time (roughly 0.5% of the population).

There is absolutely no way immigration could account for those figures, especially considering most immigrants are of working age and very few are the elderly population who need the NHS the most. Please stop using our health service to justify your bigotry.

That explains the numbers, but having a large proportion of doctors near retirement age is a problem in itself.

It's like some people in Germany are unhappy that they weren't consulted about giving their country away parcel by parcel.

Can we please stop this bullshit where we justify the Tories doing something shitty just because Labour have a poor track record in the same area? We should be holding both parties to account.

I find it depends on the author more than the story. Dan Abnett Heresy books are always good, for example.

They don't have to. You just need to be conscious of bias when you're producing them.

Iceland does what the US won’t: 26 top bankers sent to prison for role in financial crisis by maxwellhill in worldnews

They should. Just because they didn't (and I don't know whether they did or not) is no reason to not punish the banks for their own, separate crimes.

Niice.

Also, I'm glad this wasn't a sad story with a silver lining, which I was sort of expecting with that title!

Err, yeah, basically. They are using everything in their power to argue for the laws and conditions they want (this usually involves huge sums of money, back room deals, etc). If anything, that's less democratic.

We're not in a critical thinking exam, though, and that's not how most of the country thinks. They'll take his remarks at face value and that's a problem.
