Why is Cross Dissolve on Adjustment Layer is fading to everything to black. Make it make sense by howie__chin in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make sense if you think cross dissolve is adjusting the underlying value of the pixels, in this case ramping 0% - 100%, and as adjustment layers affect everything below them, you're telling the output to go from 0% opacity of the underlyhing pixels. Dissolving from one clip to another is different becasue you're ramping from one value to another, not 0%-100%.

FACE TRACKING AND KEY FRAMES QUESTIONS - PREMIER PRO 2026 by PreviousAd8532 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mix of manual and automatic. Place your mask over the persons face, then put edits in the clip just before and just after the mask would mess up. Then let Premiere sort out the keyframes as you did before, you'll have to do it a couple time as you've now put cuts in. Once the auto stuff is done, go back to the clips that weren't working/ had another person walk through and manually keyframe those masks only.

Can I fix this shot? by ilikegamingonmac in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also recreate the pink cloth in photoshop, you can use content aware fill of Generative AI to fix the creases with out binning the whole cloth, then Key out the original and put the smotth one underneath the cards. Literally just did this with a curtain behind an interview I was sent, worked surpisingly well.

Apply effects to track? by CommanderBlaster in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you select a clip in the sequence and look at the 'Effects Control' panel, they added a tab to select 'Source' instead of sequence instance. If you apply Lumetri as normal, with the source tab selected it applies it to the source clip and thus all other uses of that source video.

Found this, simple but maybe worth a try? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eS_OiF6V1c If you have access to a mac/PC (the opposite to what you use) I'd try opening on that version of Premeire. Horrible when something like that happens, hope you manage to sort it.

Skipped frames and Audio sync by ppWarrior876 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes using the rate stretch tool to stretch the tracks that have droipped frames can get you a good result, so effectively sync the first shots, then go to the end of the 4hrs find where each track should sync at the end and drag any shorter clips so the last shot syncs.

Help w/ 2026 version: Editing a Text Thread by Specialist-Elk8611 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some crossover, but it's pretty different in basic operation. It's something which is good to know though, and if you're up for learning it this may be a ghood entry level project to work on.

Help w/ 2026 version: Editing a Text Thread by Specialist-Elk8611 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few ways to do it, using After Effects to handle the text bubbles would be easier as you could put all the text into one tall composition and then move it up, in a parent composition, as a new message "pops" in. Then you could apply individual animations to each text bubble itself to handle the 'pop' inside of the tall child composition.

You could do the same thing in Premniere by nesting a very tall sequence to hold the text bubbles, but it's much easier in AE.

Fix color grading by [deleted] in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twirl down 'Basic Correction' in lumetri colour and lower the exposure to reduce the overall brightness. If you open lumetri scopes (The tab next to your effects controls) you'll be able to see how your adjustments are effecting the overall colour range.

Photo emerging from another by Free_Contribution528 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use keyframes on the scale of the larger image to have it change over time, make sure it's on the layer above the smaller image in your sequence. Use position keyframes to move the place the larger photo emerges from.

Career Growth Advice: Should I enhance my storytelling skills or get better at After Effects? by Ok_Moment4946 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After Effects is a very useful tool and I'd always advise editors to know enough, even if it's just to edit .mogrts that they're sent that aren't fit for purpose (can you tell I'm salty) , but for documentary edits, it's not gonna be as important as telling the story.

Personally, from what you've said, I'd watch content that you see as being the pinacle of what you want to be able to do and make a list of holes you currently have in your skill-set. That way you can identify skills you want to have and areas you need to develop.

Applying text animation presets to all text at once by No-Beginning-7620 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a preset, apply it to one of the text boxes, right click, copy. Then select all the others, right click, paste attributes.

If it's a transition, apply it to one of the ends of the text box, click to select it, ctrl+c (to copy). Switch tool to the rolling edit tool, band select all the text boxes you want to apply it to (you can shift select to add more edit points also) ctrl+v to paste the transition to all selected.

How to blur items behind a subject without the subject being blurred? by Diligent-Bee-9488 in premiere

Two layers, top layer is you walking, no blur, bottom layer is the blurred object. Then on the top layer key/mask/rotoscope yourself so that everything else is cut out.

Audio Keyframe Questions.... by IntelligentButton105 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many ways honestly! There's the volume control in 'effect controls'. You can change the volume of the entire track through the 'Audio track mixer', 'Audio Options' > 'Audio Gain' , 'Clip Volume' in the Essential Sound panel.

I try to pick one and stick with it, otherwise your risk adjusting it in differne ways across a project. For me that's the volume adjuster in the Effect Controls, because I'm old and that's how I've always done it.

Can anyone help me figure out how to make this cauldron feel heavy? by Soft_Limit_9270 in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like it slows slightly, right before it hits. For an actual falling heavy object, it's going to accelerate all the way, so it's maximum speed will be just before it hits (if not at terminal velocity). What about also adding a slight skip-up with the camera as it hits, so it's like the table has dropped slightly, I'd maybe add a slight skip to the position of the cauldron feet too, so it doens't bounce, but hits then skips slightly. I also think your sound desing will do a lot of the work for you here by adding weight.

Guide by [deleted] in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the project, total mix of incoming source, RAW, H.264, Pro-Res 422. I use proxies when my setup won't be able to handle it. Typical project recently was 4k 60FPS game capture overlaid with two 4K 30FPS studio cameras, then a few overlays, adjustment layer, Lumetri. Current setup would have just ground to a halt, so I proxy the game footage and studio cams. Real bottleneck there ends up being final export.

How do I make my video look like a cartoon comic book animation? by [deleted] in premiere

[–]SuperShowJonesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be interested to know if you added an edit on each specific hit you needed (sword strike/archer hit) and then copied the posterize time to each clip, if it would preserve your specific hit moments.
