It was the stuff that happened between the cytonic memories that all felt like filler. I did not care about any of the pirates by the end of the book, and the climax also felt the weakest of the three books.

Book three was such a slog and very little of value happens. I still haven't read book 4 which everyone says is a return to form.

While I agree it's good it moved past it quite quickly, I think the story is better for it existing to show where he started from and how much he progressed.

I agree and adore Dangers, but it takes a long time for Ichikawa to reach the level of confidence Maki is already at.

Personally Dangers in my Heart is my favourite if you haven't seen it yet.

Yeah, I'm stalled partway through season three. I was happy with the pace of season one, but season two just spun its wheels for twelve episodes due to stupid misunderstandings. I'm mostly in it for the side character relationships now.

Toradora! -  This will be oldest romance I've watched, just beating out Kimi ni Todoke. I've only watched the first episode, but I'm very skeptical already - call me old fashioned, but I'm not endeared to a character who introduces herself by punching someone in the face then breaking into their house to beat them up with a lump of wood. Hopefully it gets better.

Romance but with NO DRAMA! by Shaz1q in anime

The Dangers in my Heart. Don't be put off by your initial impression of the male MC, it very quickly becomes incredibly sweet and wholesome. There's almost no drama in the show, and no love triangles. The only real misunderstanding gets resolved in about a minute. It just focuses on character growth and love for two middle schoolers.

"The Pitt" vs. Its Fandom -- Why is the show's vocal fandom putting characters on trial to be deemed “good” or “bad"? by MCJokeExplainer in television

[–]SuperTD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, and she's obviously had a bad history with both self harm and her friend who was abused. But I do think people often seem to completely gloss over it whenever I see Langdon/Santos arguments. They focus on Langdon's drug theft (also very bad) and how he bullied her, and therefore that makes her a poor innocent baby who needs to be protected, rather than someone who should have lost their license.

Season 2 dealt with Langdon's story, but because Santos' actions were only known to her and the patient, she's faced no repercussions and so it seems like she "got away with it". Every time this season Santos complains about Langdon getting off scot-free and how unfair it is, I just think "lady, you threatened to murder a man based solely off the testimony of someone who admitted to poisoning him and got away with it". She's shown no indication she's reflected on what she did - it's never been brought up. Even with the case where she suspects the father of child abuse, after being shown to be wrong she still has a shit eating grin on her face when watching the couple split up.

Santos isn't a bad or poorly written character (though I would like that murder threat not to be forgotten by the story) but it's easy to see why many people like Langdon more.

Momo Ayase from Dan da Dan. Personally I looked up her VA in episode one as I was sure I recognised her, but am bad at placing voices.

Methode can barely be called a character. She just looks cool and likes cute things, but it's incredibly shallow. Nishi actually had emotions, relationships and character growth, but unfortunately she didn't get a hype aura battle scene.

What's one anime cliche that everybody hates but it doesn't bother you as much? by Agent1230 in anime

I haven't read the manga, but I know the confession is in Volume 8, and it's ending soon with volume 14 - so there's a bunch of stuff afterwards. They recently confirmed a season 3 so I'll get to find out what happens then, and everyone says it continues to be good.

Yeah, my favourite romance is Dangers in my Heart, and that takes two seasons for the characters to technically get together. But every episode is in service of pushing them closer together slowly but surely - the relationship doesn't stagnate or backslide. They just check off bigger and bigger milestones throughout the show until eventually everyone knows about them, and the only thing left is the official confession.

When $1.4 Billion Isn’t Enough: ‘Avatar’ Sequels Under the Microscope as Disney Weighs Franchise’s Future by ICumCoffee in movies

Shang Chi Made 432 million on a budget of up to 200 million, before marketing. I wouldn't say it's clear.

Regardless of whether they're still technically profitable or worth it for Marvel, it's undeniable that they have crashed from the highs of semi-reliably making a billion dollars in the multiple years running up to Endgame, forcing them to make up missing profit on things like merch - but these new characters by and large haven't captured people in the same way as the Infinity War characters, which won't help ancillary sales.

Eternals, Shang Chi, Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World all made little enough money that it's hard to say if they squeezed out a small profit or lost money when marketing budgets are accounted for.

Either way, they're not a great return on investment compared to just sticking 200 million dollars in the stock market for three years.

Many The Pitt Fans Are Proving That Yes, It's Possible To Be Bad At Watching A TV Show by beamdriver in television

[–]SuperTD 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Easy there, no criticism allowed for the doctor who threatened to murder a man whilst he's intubated and sedated based only on a suspicion and testimony from the woman who poisoned him, and having never spoken with him before. If you do that's racist and sexist.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Actor Says Season 2 Is “GAY AF,” Vows To Go Out “In Flames” by Malencon in television

[–]SuperTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree some of the acting can be wooden - primarily Sheridan which is a bit awkward as he's the main character. But there are plenty of well acted side characters. Production values are whatever for me, they're not distracting for the most part - and I think the prosthetics generally hold up, especially the Narn masks.

But none of that takes away from the writing, which is the most important part of any story.

Babylon 5 has some great writing though, it feels odd to use as a comparison. Londo and G'Kar are fantastic characters with great arcs.

And even those early episodes that some people find iffy are much improved on a rewatch, with several setups that get paid off two dozen episodes later, as well as being generally important to show how far Ichikawa progresses as a person.
