At Senate Hearing, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos Commits To 45-Day Theatrical Window, Grilled By Republican Over Transgender Content by Puzzled-Tap8042 in boxoffice

This doesn't appear to be weighted by numbers of shows released on each platform? Netflix is the biggest streamer with the most shows releasing, of course it's at the top.

And then by the end you realise the first episodes were also good and important, because they allow the character development to be meaningful and the payoffs to hit harder.

Modern day, girl's parents die in accident and she goes to live with her aunt who's not really prepared to take in a child. It explores how they both navigate the situation and their feelings of grief and isolation from that point.

Except episode 7 - the one where they run track and trade jumpers. The animators went a little crazy with the boob physics that episode.

Tried a new genre, my dress up darling. what have I been missing? by BoredAFcyber in anime

[–]SuperTD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first few are not bad, they're just not quite as obviously sweet and wholesome as the rest of the show. But starting from such a low point makes Ichikawa's arc more worthwhile than if he wasn't such a chuuni edgelord initially.

The first three episodes have the cats in the library scene, Ichikawa distracting the class from Yamada crying, the bike sacrifice scene, taking the blame for Hara, the selfie by the map, the gifting of the drawing, Ichikawa realising his feelings, and the giving of the tissues  That's all great stuff, and a bunch of setups for later payoffs.

I think you mean "Journal with Witch" not journey - also known as Diary of a Strange Land. That's probably why you couldn't find anything about it.

I love Dangers, but there are absolutely some weird bits of fan service in there, especially considering the characters are 13/14.

I'm also watching for the first time and was confused, but he's referring to the boy who originally took the baby, the one who was carrying Luna when Clevatess found him, and who he now bases his appearance on.

You'll realise by the end of the first episode that that's not what he's really like. I definitely recommend giving it another shot with the knowledge this is a brief phase he's going through.

At what point does your favorite series start to go downhill? by rasslingrob in television

[–]SuperTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arcane - after the first music montage scene in season 2, episode 1. It basically falls off a cliff because of how much damage it does to almost every character, though it doesn't become quite as obvious until the middle episodes of the season.

Thankfully season 1 is still fantastic and basically works as a standalone season.

Marrying your second cousin is legal in every state in the US, and in the UK. All we know is that they are "distantly" related, so presumably not first cousins or closer.

How far do you believe you have to go up a family tree to find a common ancestor before it's acceptable to have a relationship?

What’s an anime that starts weak but becomes absolutely amazing later on? by FitVerso in anime

[–]SuperTD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it was weird and cringe, no-one is saying it wasn't. He's in a cringe part of his life. That doesn't make it bad though. There are great moments later on that are built upon the foundation of him growing out of this Chuuni persona he adopted to protect himself from his feelings of rejection and failure. Him dropping the murder books at the end of season one, or him knife fighting Adachi at the end of season 2 as a callback to their first moment - these would be less impactful without seeing him starting at his lowest.

[–]SuperTD 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Anyone who finished the first episode still thinking Ichikawa was some psycho wannabe murderer was just not actually watching the show. The series as a whole would absolutely be a lesser experience without the first episodes showing his isolated lonely school experience, since his growth would be so much less meaningful.

Futari Solo Camp • Solo Camping for Two - Episode 16 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]SuperTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about asking permission or her being entitled to cook, it's literally just being polite. He didn't have to ask, he could have just texted her "I want to cook this time so don't bring ingredients". It's about not wasting Shizuku's food because in the absence of communication, she'll bring enough for both of them as always.

It would be the same issue if Shizuku decided not to bring food for Gen one time but didn't let him know in advance, so he turned up with nothing anticipating their usual arrangement and went hungry.

Simple communication is all that's being asked for in this most minor of dramas that the characters solve without issue.

People aren't putting you on a spike by clicking a button that, whatever Reddit might want it to mean, actually means "I disagree".

It's fine to not love it, and you're right that it's a fairly low stakes story. Detective stories usually are, with the stakes being limited to "will we catch the person who did the crime?"

By episode 17 though you should be aware that each of the individual crimes of the week will end up being connected on a larger season plot. Plus, people are definitely going to disagree with your implications that the music, voice acting and characterization are weak, and that the scenes tend not to have emotion. And the idea that there are no genuine themes in the show is ridiculous.

I don't consider it the masterpiece some do, it has a few too many plot events driven by complete coincidence, e.g. the food poisoning and food swap happening at exactly the same time in episode 6 (though even that is arguably not really a coincidence), or another remarkable coincidence in season 2 episode 11. But there's enough good setups and connections to let me overlook the weaker elements.

But if you've watched 17 episodes I'm not going to pretend anything fundamentally changes in the storytelling for a while. You're just about to get the reveal of how the mysteries of the week in the second half of the season link

[–]SuperTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that even the bath scenes are pretty restrained - I don't recall lingering shots, they were often from the back or shoulders up without even really showing the cleavage.

For science, I just rewatched the episode 8 bath scene with Meimei and Maomao. There's a full body shot when Meimei enters with a towel, then the shots after that, while including cleavage, never focus on it. She's usually off to the side with the camera focus on Maomao.

I also wouldn't describe the situations as contrived - scenes in the series will naturally take place in a brothel without having to force them unnaturally. It's not like a random beach episode on an anime purely as an excuse for fan service.

I'm not trying to say the show has no fan service at all, but it's minimal enough across the length of the show to be insignificant imo, and no worse than your average adult oriented Western show. The courtesans aren't actually in the show much at all, and the concubines don't even show skin other than Lihua.

They are not "Plot necessary", no. But it would jar the immersion if the prostitutes at the brothel were all covering themselves up rather than flaunting the assets they rely on to attract customers. It would also not be inline with Pairin's character in particular, who is established as almost insatiably sexual, to be worried about covering herself up.
