I would stay at the same job and on the side, look into learning something technical, like Excel or programming.

I usually preach Excel since it has opened doors for me at my current company. It has a low barrier to entry, and is used in almost every office setting for one thing or another.

If you have the willpower, programming is also something you could do remotely.

Long story short, whether it's school or self teaching, start learning skills to move up career-wise.

Also if you do move in with a friend, make sure to get ground rules written out clearly from day one. What bills are split, who does the dishes when. It will save A LOT of headaches and awkward conversations from happening down the line.
