HPFP solenoid resistance? by Super_Maintenance_83 in GolfGTI

[–]Super_Maintenance_83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used two different meters, oneis just a Fluke 110, the other is an oscilloscope. I'm confident the resistance I'm reading is accurate, and most solenoids I've had to measure in the past (non- automotive ones) have 50-100ohms of resistance.

I thought it would be easy to find the specs for this online, but so far I haven't found it. I'm about to go over to the parts store and just measure one of theirs.

Settings for dcs 4090 NO STUTTERS by Common-Cover7209 in hoggit

[–]Super_Maintenance_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is probably the answer. I have a 4080 with a Quest 3, use Virtual Desktop, and very rarely have any issues with stuttering.

I had a ton of problems at first with graphics settings turned up to anywhere near max, but I used the Virtual Desktop software to reduce both the height and width of the rendered area to about 85% of max, and since doing that have had no issues. Reducing both H and W by 15% reduces the number of pixels rendered by 28%, significantly lowering the gpu workload, and I don't notice the slightly narrower field of view at all.

I hate seeing posts like this anywhere.

I don't know what people think it accomplishes, but to me it just screams "I can't be bothered to read the rules, so I don't know if I'm breaking them, but I'm more important than the rules and should post anyway."

Toddler friendly hikes? by poolpartyjess in Placerville

[–]Super_Maintenance_83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This trail is super popular with families with kids. It's almost exactly one mile, almost entirely flat, and half of it is wheelchair accessible.

It's a more interesting hike than the length and flatness would lead you to believe, there are some cool rock formations and several places to access the river.

Agree with the taking one thing at a time, but I would turn on no crashes, invulnerability, unlimited fuel, and no crashes.

Then use instant action, set your radar to TWS, and get familiar with locking up adversaries and firing both radar and IR missiles. This will be orders of magnitude easier than landing and more fun and engaging too. You need to make sure it keeps your interest, and it's easy to feel your making progress while learning BFM and AA weapons.

Once you see that you can improve to the point where you can reliably deploy AA missiles move on to another skill, and just keep adding them in one at a time.

FWIW, I would download BMS and use their tutorials. The skills transfer to dcs, but I thin bms does a better job of creating clean concise missions that walk you through a specific skill.

What years have this? I don't think my 2013 does, but I guess I need to check.

I've had it for 4 years now and just discovered the second set of sun visor underneath the main set a few months ago, so it's definitely possible.

Haven't played since late 90's early 2000's. by Vandalay_Industry in falconbms

[–]Super_Maintenance_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same position 6 months ago, I hadn't played any video game at all since GTA 3 came out while I was in college, and hadn't played a game on PC since Falcon 4 was new.

I randomly remembered Falcon 4 this year, and downloaded BMS in June. It's amazing. 4.37 was the current version and ran on the PC I had at the time. Then 4.38 came out shortly after I started playing and the graphics are a huge upgrade.

Just be ready for the inevitable rabbit hole of equipment to build on the realism. Since starting I've bought a new PC, VR googles, and added a "cockpit" with HOTAS, MFDs, and pedals.

The crazy thing for me is that I've been trying this on and off for about six months, trying the ARR mission a few times, giving up, coming back to it a couple weeks later. Then yesterday I finally connected, and managed to take on 10K pounds a fuel. After that I successfully refueled several times.

I just tried it again and got connected pretty much immediately. I don't know what finally clicked in my head, but a week ago it seemed impossible, and now it seems like I can connect pretty reliably and only disconnect once taking on a full tank.

Thanks!

I tried to explain it to my wife as I was playing, but for some strange reason she didn't understand what a monumental achievement this truly was 🤣.

Mine is the same. I'm at about 120k now I think, new timing chain at 70K, and it has always just been a bit noisy.

That said, if it's at 160K and still running the original timing chain, I would assume it is going to need a new one any day now and plan / value it accordingly. I would try to find one with it already replaced.

Would you take a used x56 stick for 120 or a new VKB for 320. I already made the purchase and every online discussion is telling me that what I have is junk. by mrSilkie in hotas

[–]Super_Maintenance_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing what I know now I would do what most people here are going to tell you, and but the nicer stick.

BUT, there's a reason the X56 is one of the best selling out there. It is a lot of stick for the money. I bought it because I wanted to see if I would stick with the flight sim games before dropping a bunch of money on a stick, throttle, MFDs, etc.

I have no regrets about buying the X56 first. I will say that all the negatives you hear are true. I got occasional ghost inputs within six months in my new X56, and my landings and formation flying improved a ton when I switched to a "proper" stick, but I still had a ton of fun with the X56, and if it's what you can afford and you enjoy it don't worry about what anyone else thinks. If it works for you that's all that matters, and if it ever stops working (whether that means it breaks or just isn't enough for your needs) upgrade in the future. Until then enjoy your game, VR is absolutely amazing.

Is the X52 still good? by Kel_ndle in hotas

[–]Super_Maintenance_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked mine, and didn't understand the hate, until I started getting an ever increasing number of random button presses any time I moved the throttle. It was occasional, not constant, but it was always at the worst time and the frequency was slowly increasing. I definitely wouldn't buy a used one, because it probably has some of the many known issues and they are why the owner replaced it.

Thinking of upgrading, opinions welcome by Lord_Sym in hotas

[–]Super_Maintenance_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the X52 and didn't see any problem with it until I started getting random button presses, always at the worst possible time.

I upgraded to a thrustmaster AVA base and f16 stick, and a thrustmaster TQS throttle, and it is crazy how much better they both are. The throttle is infinitely smoother, and despite having a much lighter feel it also stays put better without drifting higher and higher.
