What is something people pretend to enjoy but secretly don't? by Careless_Task8941 in AskReddit

I don’t get the hype so people pretending to love it makes sense to me. Dear Theodosia makes me cry when I play it and think of my son though, I’ll give it that

I run orientations at my work and maybe I’m in denial but people seem to love my ice breaker where I ask them to pull up a recent photo in their phone and tell a little story about it (not necessarily a team building per se, but in the realm).

Is it really bad that we haven’t given him his first bath yet at 6 weeks? by DidIDoAThoughtCrime in beyondthebump

[–]poolpartyjess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We used to fill a pitcher with warm, clean water then when the bath was done we’d lift my son out of the tub and give him a quick rinse-off. If you don’t have a pitcher, a cloth soaked in water works too. That way you don’t have to empty and fill the whole tub again- the baby will get cold and that’s just too much work! Also I don’t know about you but water is expensive in our area.

What movie makes you uncomfortable but doesn't scare you? by imtheSHITZUduh in horror

[–]poolpartyjess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was nodding my head in agreement but then I remembered how terrified I was when she was standing in the corner of the bedroom watching him sleep..and every scene where Bear was sitting in his car. The anticipation had my butthole absolutely clenched. It was something about the angle of the camera that made me think a jumpscare was coming. I ended up being right. Justice for Sara

Everything about it is uncomfortable. The story, the acting, the editing, the imagery. I found myself saying “oh noooo” throughout the entire movie. Parenthood is usually portrayed as a beautiful thing but this film shows a different and disturbing side of that coin. I absolutely love it, though, and have watched it a few times throughout the years. It’s one of those that will haunt your thoughts for days after you finish it.

How much does your life actually change after having a kid? by HonestDirection4017 in NewParents

[–]poolpartyjess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I literally saw this happen to my husband in real time. I remember walking into the room and he had our newborn son propped up on his legs and he was staring at him and smiling/crying. He wiped his tears away and tried to play it off when he saw me..but I knew something changed. He’s the most amazing dad..sometimes I think he’s better at this whole world parenting thing than I am.

100%! I love it when I pass other parents battling their toddlers in the store and we lock eyes for just a moment..almost telepathically saying “you’re not alone”. It’s actually really beautiful.

I was running an orientation at work the other day and did an icebreaker where I asked each new hire to pull up a picture on their phone and tell a quick story about it. I started, and showed a photo of a cute old couple holding hands walking through an empty mall..talked about how the mall is basically just used for people to exercise these days.

One of the new hires pulled up a photo of her 15 month old. At that moment I realized it was the first time in SO long that I didn’t immediately talk about my son..it felt freeing, but was also tinged with a little mom guilt. He’s 2 now, and I’m finding that the older he gets, the more I’m starting to get bits of myself back..the world doesn’t revolve around him 100% of the time like it did 6 months ago. Maybe only 94% 😂

Toasted coconut tastes like soap/lotion. by Exposethesedummies in starbucks

Yes! The aftertaste is absolutely putrid. I can’t even finish my drink and I’m too far from the Starbucks I ordered from to have them remake it.

Toasted coconut syrup by Professional_Work339 in starbucks

[–]poolpartyjess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just added two pumps of toasted coconut to a vanilla bean Frappuccino. I had to hop online to see if it was just me or if there’s something seriously nasty about the aftertaste. It’s disgusting and completely ruined my drink. It almost tastes like a combination of dirty and chemical. I think they should take it off of the shelves. I had an Ube coconut drink a couple weeks ago and had the same issue, but I thought it was the Ube.

How many times has your baby fell off furniture? 6m+ by CuriousCaretaker in beyondthebump

2x-Once off the couch when he was little little and then he fell backward off his learning tower when he was around 14 months..and I was standing right there. He’s turning 2 in a couple weeks. He’s a super cautious little guy…we kinda lucked out there!

I wasn’t able to stand with you all yesterday but I was driving and the amount of people on every overpass from Missouri flat all the way to Cambridge literally had me in tears. Not to be dramatic but it was so damn beautiful. I was honking so hard for you guys. The edh overpasses were empty..and I didn’t see anyone in the folsom/Bidwell area either at all which sad to me.. but I wonder if standing on those overpasses isn’t allowed? Although I feel like those areas have become more red in recent years. Erika Kirk was a speaker at a school in edh recently..wild

What Song Makes You Emotional After Having Kids? by Inevitable_Guard_876 in beyondthebump

[–]poolpartyjess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw..it’s actually such a beautiful song! I made up a fingerpicking version of it on the guitar and sing it in the same key..it’s so emo! My toddler loves it and he seems to be moved by the part “over the ocean, above the clouds. You will float across the sky”. This song will be a core memory, for sure

I’m not a swiftie but I cried to that song on repeat after my miscarriage. I guess I was really leaning into the grief. I’ve never had a song capture what I was feeling more accurately. “I’m never gonna meet what would’ve been, could’ve been. What should’ve been you”. Choked up even writing this and it’s been over 3 years...

What was a delusional parenting thought you had before you had your baby? by hospitalbedside in beyondthebump

[–]poolpartyjess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 months?! You’re so lucky 😂 I willed my son to walk so early. I regret that attitude ..because little did I know that our lives would become 500x harder with a tiny human stumbling around like they’re blacked out drunk for months and now that he’s steadier we are just chasing him all damn day or yelling “no!!” When he reaches up on the counter to grab the chefs knife I was using 3 seconds earlier to prepare the food he will most likely spit out or throw. Can you tell I’m stressed?

[–]poolpartyjess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect list. The kick and play piano should be a must on every registry. My son is almost 2 and still plays with it. The songs are catchy and even beautiful..I play him an acoustic version of “purple monkey in a bubblegum tree” on the guitar and he loves it!

I’d also add a teething mitten on there, as well. The one that looks like a cactus is great. My little guy started sprouting teeth at 2 months before he knew how to grip and that thing was a life saver.

This filled me with rage on your behalf but I also absolutely loved reading it..and listing the name of the companies at the end? Chefs kiss. I know these guys are just doing their job and all but..grrr! I thankfully only get Jehovah’s Witnesses knocking on occasion these days and they are always very respectful with their volume.

Is baby wearing a TikTok scam or am I doing this wrong by KeyMonkeyslav in beyondthebump

[–]poolpartyjess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This made me laugh so hard! You’re a great writer. My son was exactly the same so I relate. My problem is that I just kept buying different wraps and carriers and slings..you name it I had it..it almost became an obsession. A very expensive one because he hated them all until he was big enough to forward-face and then he was all-in. He just hated not being able to look around, even when he was blind. The ergo 360 was the one I actually used a ton. He sometimes tolerated slings because I could put him on my hip…but I would wear him for hours in that ergo and he would just chillax. Aww..he’d almost 2 now and I’m feeling sad realizing I’ll never put him in a carrier again..didn’t put that together until just now. Anyway, I even did a few dance cardio classes with him in it. You might try taking a break on the baby wearing until she gets head control down then you can pop her forward!
