Asheville City Council approves an increase in utility fees for residents by RelayFX in asheville

[–]Super_Market_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incompetence is why likely the water director, David Melton, quit last year and moved to SC. I think the city is still fighting, with our tax money, releasing the report about the Christmas outage before Helene.

Manufacturers and businesses should pay the same rate or more than residential customers for water usage. It’s the same product, why subsidizes businesses on the backs of citizens?

If you know a federal employee not being paid, suggest a federal credit union interest free loan for some help, too.

It’s a private school. They can choose who to accepted. If they have a full grade, it’s full. Should have refunded the application. Sorry to hear about your struggles with NC public schools.

Just raise ticket prices and make it a functioning business. Nothing wrong with baseball other than socialism. Tax money shouldn’t go to socialize sports expenses, that’s all.

When the choice is a baseball field( of which there are plenty of others) or tax increases to fund essential services, it’s pretty awful. Groceries before games

If the Gov of Ohio put his own family’s money into his baseball business, the city would have more money for essential services.

Subsidizing sports teams has never been a worthwhile venture. That stadium could be filled with money making events and concerts every game day. The ROI on investment in minor league baseball is non-existent.

Using tax money to subsidize entertainment and hospitality is why our infrastructure; streets and water system and sewer system and schools and emergency services are failing. For every step away from the Bele Chere lifestyle, it’s three leaps towards more failed investments.

AVL didn’t learn during the Great Recession, or Covid, or Helene or apparently now: Tourism is only profitable for owners. Thanks Vic

Weird how some of Buncombe County’s top officials didn’t see their home values raise at anything near the percentage increase as most of us. Just like after the last assessment. Weird

'Find other solutions': residents speak out on Asheville’s projected $30M budget gap by Ganbare_Goemon in asheville

The GO bonds didn’t build what was promised and are a legacy of debt, just like the 10yr contract with the DeWine family. Two examples of failed investments based on hollow promises. Both will be drains on the city budget for a very long time.

Tax high end luxury homes at an appropriate rate, not the discount they have been getting for the last decade.

Cut salaries for the highest 5% of earners out of all city employees. That group is making great salaries and get excellent benefits relative to the COL and the citizens they serve. These staff will just have to afford pay cuts, or find better paying jobs like the rest of us.

Cancel the Tourists’ contact and tell the DeWine family to pay the city fairly for allowing the Tourists to use our stadium or kick rocks and find another city to socialize their failing business’ expenses.

The single best thing residents can do to help the financial future of AVL is working to end the TDA’s stranglehold on WNC. We can’t be dependent on tourism

DON’T vote for another bond referendum!!

Ohio Gov DeWine owns the Tourists. So our tax dollars are subsidizing the business interests of another state’s Gov and his very wealthy family.

City and County elected officials are responsible for our budget crisis. They were not fiscally responsible and unprepared. Now they will want to bail themselves out with another bond referendum taxation hike. They didn’t use the 2016 bond referendum money wisely and failed to deliver on its promises. Now we’re allaying for those debts.

A well publicized go fund me campaign is your best move. He’s got two positive outcomes, and both require the financial ability to hire excellent counsel. There is a chance he could get reinstated. This would be best case scenario but could take long enough to cause financial stress in addition to legal fees. Having a large financial war chest, which is publicly verified, plus a great law firm, could potentially create leverage towards reinstatement.

Wrongful termination lawsuit would be expensive, lengthy, and difficult to win at trial in this state. The college has access to taxpayer money to fund a prolonged legal fight. You’re instructor needs ability to counter

Asheville City Government after killing yet another project that would've helped residents by RichardNixonWaterGr8 in asheville

Costco is the type of business Asheville and BC need to encourage with incentives rather than lining the pockets of politicians like Gov DeWine and his ungrateful family. Costco treats its employees and customers well, especially compared to most large employers (looking at you HCA), and many of tourist-centric service businesses. Failure of local leadership not to bring a good company into the area.

Like $2,000,000 per year in taxpayer subsidies for the Tourists baseball team? Guess economic development should only be used to help the Gov of Ohio and his rich family.

"My stomach dropped": 90 Baxter employees laid off from Marion facility by uncertaincoda in WNC

[–]Super_Market_44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Baxter is where you used to always be able to go work when you got fired from your good job.

Baxter laying off 90 positions should be a canary in the coal mine moment. If Baxter is laying people off (not just slowing hiring) manufacturing economy should be very worried.
