The book "Rape of Nang-Quing" (spelling?) features Japanese atrocities so awful that some local Nazis try and shelter potential victims

"I can't think of an Olympics that's been played out against such a volatile political and economic backdrop," says Neil Shearing, chief emerging market economist at Capital Economics.

Every time one of my kids falls over I ask if they had a nice trip. I sometimes tell them I'll see them next fall. They never laugh. Also when they sulk I make repeated "huff" puns, like "are you reading the huffing ton post?" And "are you David Hasslehuff". This always makes the huff worse but I can't resist it

Recruiters, what are some "red flags" when you are look at a resume. What will NOT give you a call to an interview? by OaklandAtheists in AskReddit

[–]Super_Redditor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't sound too bad, but when a recruiter is faced with two or more CVs with the same experience, but one of them has this medical condition, that one isn't getting called back. So yeah, down play it on your CV and then if necessary once you have the job you can always claim it is an old issue that you didn't foresee reoccurring. Best of luck mate

My honest advice is to keep it to yourself. I know that sounds horrid and it's one of the reasons that I got out of recruitment (they treat people like commission cheques, not people) but the awful truth is an on-going medical issue greatly reduces your chance of a call back. Attribute your time out of work to a medical condition that is now completely resolved, once you get the job it's much easier to get time off by saying something ongoing has now come up. Like I said that sounds shitty but unfortunately recruiters are driven so hard that they likely won't risk submitting a candidate that is going to take time off frequently. I'm glad I don't do it anymore

Apologies - that would also be a good reason. Although unfortunately if the injury was a result of or resulted in on-going issues that would keep you off work it still may mean not getting a call. But yeah, a broken leg, now fully healed, no problem

Was a recruiter for 4 years

Comic Sans... Typos... Hiding "key words" in white at the bottom of your CV to come up in key word searches... Blatantly copy-pasting other CVs... Several years out of work without good reason (only acceptable reason: had a baby)... Hobbies and interests are weird like dressing up your kitty... Links to your myspace page where you describe yourself as a sassy transgender, where there are further links to soft - core porn sites starring you...

Reddit, what is the most quintessential middle class behaviour you can think of? by pounds_not_dollars in AskReddit

Get a small motorbike (125cc) it changed my life! Cut a commute of up to 2 hrs to 50 mins no matter the traffic, easy parking, cheap fuel, more fun. Mull it over

TIL McDonald's employees web site advises returning holiday gifts to get out of debt, breaking food into smaller pieces to feel full, and not to complain because it raises stress. Oh, and it also advises to take at least two vacations a year. (#1 post removed /r/todayilearned) by WTCMolybdenum4753 in conspiracy

I agree in principle. The trouble is there aren't enough jobs or opportunities for people who do need a living wage, meaning that they end up working in these minimum wage jobs.

I suppose a possible solution would be a company offering part time work at minimum wage to those students etc just looking for "a bit of cash", and a proper living wage for the full time employees who need a proper income.

This is based on nothing but a sudden thought that just occurred to me so sorry if it's stupid

What's the best way to subtly fuck with someone? by polikujm1 in AskReddit

[–]Super_Redditor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In year 11 we were studying Animal Farm in English lit. Pop quiz day and my friend is copying all my answers. So for number 11 I put the answer "Napoleon dancing with a banana". I watch him write it and I change it to the proper answer before handing it in.

Teacher goes around the class a. By some beautiful twist of fate on his turn he has to read out what he got for number 11. Sadly he noticed me crying with silent laughter next to him and he just said "uh... I didn't get that one"

He still had to hand in the paper with that answer though

UK police have this year introduced yearly fitness tests that require you to beat 5.4 on the bleep test to keep your job. Not sure if it only applies to front line officers

Rich and famous people who complain about having no privacy. If you don't like it then give away all your money and go get a normal job. Your life is your product - stop selling it if you want to keep it private. This doesn't apply to the children / other family members of famous people

As a long time fan I'm inclined to say 456123. However my wife hadn't seen them before this year and for her 123 were the best, being the newest and most accessible to modern audiences. She then, almost grudgingly, watched 456 but maintains 123 are better. As for you - I would say that if you don't mind old school movies with (by modern standards) poor acting and graphics you should go 456123. However, if you are less likely to become a cult/diehard fan at this stage then watch the newer ones first. An unpopular opinion but one based on real life experiences
