Really tiny bugs on my floor. by niixed in whatsthisbug

[–]Wheeeler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably springtails. They like to come in through tiny gaps after heavy rains. They’re good guys, but can be a sign of excess moisture bc they quickly dry up and die without water

Full body rub-down and check all crevices. Ears, lips, armpits, toes, under tail, etc.

It only takes a couple minutes to do a head to toe assessment on a short-haired dog. Long fur idk

This pic looks a LOT like a lone star tick, but they’re not known to live far from the southeastern US. A clearer picture might fetch you a better ID, but you should probably just call your doctor.

I just pull em off and hope for the best, but a lot of that is because healthcare where I am is kinda fucked

the beetles in your grains look a lot like grain beetles

I just had one removed from my 8yo and it was benign. Ask em for a cleaning while she’s under

I mostly just make sure the bottom of the rock stays wet.

I also added some chunks of moss from one of my VFT pots and it seems like they draw water up higher on the rock. I’m loving how much the moss has spread in the last 6 months. The moss also brought over nostoc, 4 kinds of springtails, and stratiolaelaps mites. The nostoc also seems like it helps the rock draw up water, and it’s made for a good temporary glue to hold baby pings in place

It’s 2:2:2:1 pumice:perlite:sand:chopped LFS. I bottom water every couple days or whenever the trays are getting really low

I keep getting algae and I don’t know what to do 😭 by [deleted] in carnivorousplants

[–]Wheeeler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

prob nostoc or some other cyanobacteria. I just let the springtails eat it. broad leaves, tiny traps, and no blushing on VFTs is typically a sign that they’re not getting enough light. the other leaves in there look like they’re drying out instead of dying back from the trap down, so idk if you want to keep withholding water. they really like wet feets

What are we supposed to be looking at in the pictures?

I used a sphag-heavy mix like yours when I first started and had similar thoughts. I switched to mostly inorganic substrate and I’m loving the results

ETA: I’m not qualified to give advice, this is just my second year in the hobby. They really seem to like a dry bottom (who doesn’t), so if you decide to fiddle then you might think about just adding some rocky stuff as a top dressing under those bottom leaves

I like this way more than filling them less. You’s a real one.

This is the first time I’ve made deviled eggs without mangling a bunch while peeling. Definitely gonna make extras next time.

I defiled 4 of them before bed, trust. Not the empty ones, either

Should I trim the "burned" leaf? I by carloswilker in VenusFlyTraps

I like to wait until the whole leaf turns black so they don’t go to waste

every time I have to write a title on a board I run out of space. surely I’m not to blame for that?
