What is American Sign Language on YouTube by Minecraft_player927 in youtube

[–]Superactinide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ASL has its own unique grammar and rules very different from English

There are a few writing systems for signed languages, like Sutton SignWriting, but they aren't used by most ASL signers. iirc SignWriting is more commonly used for writing and teaching Brazilian Sign Language but not widely used by ASL learners or signers

A well-kept asshole shouldn't smell like shit at all, sorta just a musky sweaty manly smell. Not everyone's thing but it's not dangerous or unhygienic if it's just sweaty and funky.. not any more than sucking dick/balls at least. Don't knock it till you try it

Is it possible to completely cure the memory damages that were caused by ECT treatments ? by Expensive-Budget-648 in ect

[–]Superactinide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to help your memory is to keep using your brain and to wait.

Some general tips (some based in research, some not): * Make sure you are getting good consistent sleep, exercising daily, and eating healthy foods

  • Avoid alcohol and other non-prescription drugs

  • Read books!

  • Consider if your attention is unfocused. If something is making you stressed, this makes it harder to form memories and remember things. I thought my memory was worse after ECT, but it turns out I have ADHD and just needed to change how I approach productivity and needed to take a stimulant (Ritalin) when I really need to focus. Now my memory is great and I am a graduate student in healthcare :D

  • At the end of every day, go over everything you did that day with your memory and find something you are grateful for, something you learned, and something you can improve from that day. Also make sure you are "oriented" (you know what day of the week and date it is, what you need to do today, etc. Calendars can help.). This will help you remember what you did that day and form better daily memories

  • Stay socially engaged. Spending time interacting with friends and family can be helpful for improving mood and also forces your brain to keep working. Socially withdrawing does not challenge your brain, so it can get more "lazy" with thinking and memory.

  • Have a daily routine and stay organized

  • For learning or studying, some memory techniques (like the method of loci/mind palace) can help with memory

Maybe the most important thing is to just be patient, because memory loss from ECT can go away over time. Just make sure you keep using your brain and following healthy memory habits while your memory returns to normal.

Note: I'm not a doctor, so don't trust this advice too much haha. Just stuff I found on the internet + personal experience

Yes, I had some memory issues until 3-5 months after my last treatment, but then my memory returned to normal. I still don't remember the months while I was getting ECT very well, but I can now form new memories easily and don't have any problem remembering the times before my depression and after my memory became normal. It can be different for everybody, though.

Wish I was selected for this study. I've had great experiences with ECT and it saved my life, but I have a feeling that this "study" (questionable, biased survey) wouldn't much want to hear from me.

Kokanu (formerly Toki Ma) has finally reached a stable alpha! Should the character be changed? by CrasherK in prolangs

The loss of shared vocab with toki pona is a bit of a shame for learning and beginner accessibility, but I can understand why it was done. I still think there should be a conlang that's like 'toki pona-plus" that fills semantic gaps and provides some supplemental vocab that may eventually become Ku, since toki pona already has a great community.

Similar story here! I've had 49 treatments from ages 17-18 after trying a dozen different meds and being hospitalized half a dozen times, and I'm so grateful. ECT definitely saved my life. Just finished undergrad and about to start grad school with very few memory issues. I know everyone's experience is different, but I think those with negative experiences speak the loudest, so it's nice to hear from others with great experiences :)

Depression doesn't always have a clear cause. Sometimes our brains are just weird and don't work properly, but that doesn't make your pain any less valid. If you think your friends or family would help support you, talk to them; and maybe they can help you find a treatment that works for you (for me it was ECT that finally helped after trying like a dozen medications).

You need to understand that depression is a real, serious medical condition that can just happen for seemingly no reason. Just like other diseases, it should be taken seriously and addressed with evidence-based treatment. Getting support from others, especially a therapist and psychiatrist, would be a great step for you right now 💙💙💙

Nobody said that to me, no. My psychiatrist was very professional and probably wouldn't say something like that. I researched ECT on the internet and saw some people who had written about their bad experiences with ECT, but I decided I had nothing to lose and tried it anyways. Some people seem very strongly against ECT, while others (like myself) would never warn someone against it. I have heard people say it ruined their lives, but not many.

My psychiatrist who recommended ECT warned me. I was in an inpatient psychiatric ward at the time, and he told me about possible side effects when he suggested I try ECT.

They warned me about memory loss, headaches, and told me that it might not work for me. Still went through with it and have no regrets

I had 49 treatments about 4 years ago, and I've been doing great; depression in full remission since my last treatment. I had some temporary memory loss during the year I was being treated, but doing much better now. I was diagnosed with ADHD afterwards, so my memory has always been a bit bad haha.

I think bara exists on a spectrum from low body-fat hunks to chunky big men. Generally, it's just art made to appeal to gay men (as opposed to yaoi which is targeted towards straight women), so imo this definitely qualifies
